You have to look at Favre\'s whole career, not just one season. I certainly won\'t argue that he does need to retire before he hurts his stats even more.

John Fox, I will give you that. Maybe I am just not a fan of his coaching style. I never called him a "hack coach", by the way. I did say he was ignorant and arrogant, which I stand by. His play calling shows that most the time. Still, you are right, he did take a team to the superbowl and go this one to the NFC Championship game. Impressive. But he also created a one dimensional team and I think the Seahawks showed that.

My comparison to Pennington wasn\'t the best, I\'ll give you that. I just have not seen anything from Palmer to tell me that he will be an elite QB. If nothing else, I think he will suffer from staying with the Bengals, due to the fact I\'m convinced after this season they  will go back to being the \'Bungles\'. Yes, I\'m writing down the Bengals playoff run as a one time thing.

Well, there were certainly points in Favre\'s career where he was an elite QB, and the best QB in the league.  No arguement there.  I\'m just not sure he\'s there right now.

As for John Fox, sorry about the hack coach thing.  I combined the John Fox comment with the line above about Delhomme being a hack QB in my mind somehow.  He has been a head coach for four years now though.  The Panthers were 1-15 the year before he took over, and he had them in the Super Bowl in two years.  He missed the playoffs last year, mainly due to injuries, but got back to the NFC title game this year.

I think the team was one dimensional more because of personel issues than coaching style.  They were 6th in the NFC (10th in the NFL) in rushing attempts, but due to injuries, and in my opinion not the best quality of backs to begin with, they struggled anyway.  They had more carries than teams like San Diego, Tampa Bay, the Giants, and other teams known for committing to the run.  In fact, they ran the ball about 40 more times than they passed it this year.  The pass just got all the publicity because of Steve Smith (and his tendancy to be a highlight whore).

Either way, I\'d say that the lack of run offense at this point was hardly John Fox\'s fault.  Imagine where most teams would be if they started the game with their 3rd string RB starting, and lost him in the early going.  It would be no better.

Point taken.

One thing we can agree on is Smith being a limelight whore.

damn right hes a limelight whore. I had him as mvp in my mind..just tough for a WR to oust a RB (let alone a RB with a record). Plus he was on my fantasy team..heh

But smith catches 60%ish of the panthers passes, only a few teams were able to shut him down, and a one WR is much easier to plan for than a RB. They couldnt really get the ball to him, but leave it up to smith to score on the punt return.

What a difference it would make if Muhammed was still on that team.

Shaun goin\' to Carolina?

Quote

CHARLOTTE -- The NFL\'s top running back says he\'ll play Sunday for the Seattle Seahawks. He also says he might play next year for the Carolina Panthers.

Shaun Alexander, who led the league in rushing and will lead the Seahawks into Sunday\'s NFC championship game against the Panthers, says he might join former teammate Ken Lucas next season in Carolina.

"I told him you never know," Alexander said Wednesday in a teleconference. "I might be out there with you."

This isn\'t a far-fetched idea. Carolina might very well be in the market for a running back, and Alexander might be the top target. We won\'t know for some time.

What we do know is that Alexander can become a free agent after March 1, and the Panthers could be without their top two running backs by then. Stephen Davis, who was placed on the injured reserve list in December, might never play again. DeShaun Foster, who was injured Sunday in an NFC playoff game against Chicago, can also become a free agent after the season.

From another forum, posted off News & Records site.

Dungy confirms he will be back for next year.

And..........

Superbowl 40 = Super - bore?
Quote
Two Words For You:
SUPER.  BORE.

Only a week ago, the Super Bowl was all set to live up to its "XL" label. Now, it\'s the "Super Bore."

Across the sports-geography spectrum (unless you\'re a fan of either Seattle or Pittsburgh), there hasn\'t been a Super Bowl with less national fan interest in a long time.

Meaning? This XL-sized Super Bowl will truly test the idea that the game is that much bigger than the teams involved.

At first glance, the game\'s matchup might be even, but its buzz is a shutout.

(Look no further than the most recent poll results on ESPN.com\'s front page: Kobe scoring 81 is 50 percent more popular a story than the Steelers and Seahawks advancing to the Super Bowl.)

NFL fans have become spoiled by the Pats dynasty; even this season, our expectations were that we\'d see the most improbable Pats title of all -- or at least the breakthrough of Peyton Manning and the Colts.

There\'s simply not the drama of years past. Can\'t Shaun Alexander go a little "T.O." on us, just to spice things up?

Even a Freddie Mitchell imitation from Matt Hasselbeck would make things more interesting at this point.

But, really, a "blah" reaction from fans is beyond the NFL -- it\'s a nasty little virus going around the pro sports world over the last year:

Look at last year\'s NBA Finals: Fans yawned at the prospects of the Pistons and Spurs (even though it turned out to be a dramatic series on the court). They had been spoiled by the dramatics of Kobe and Shaq.

Look at the World Series: Fans were underwhelmed by the White Sox and Astros (despite Chicago\'s epic title drought). They had been spoiled by the Rise of the Red Sox.

It doesn\'t matter that the Spurs or the White Sox were worthy champs. Excellence has taken a backseat to our jones for outsize drama.

Make no mistake: This is unfair to both the Seahawks, a Super Bowl first-timer, and the Steelers, who would claim the superlative novelty of becoming the lowest-seeded playoff team to win a championship.

I\'m just extending last week\'s sense of ho-hum from fans for the conference championship matchups and expanding it to sports\' biggest stage:

The Whoop-de-do-per Bowl.

It\'s not an appealing matchup, but it\'s still the Superbowl, and it will still get the years top ratings.

I\'m a fan of neither team and from neither city.  In fact, I live in Philadelphia.  And yet, I\'m still more excited about it than last year\'s super bowl.

Exactly what I was thinkin\'.

This one actually has two things of interest...Well, three really.

1: Seahawks first attempt in the "big game".

2: Bettis\' last game. Send him out with a ring.

3: One for the thumb.

Those three reasons make this one more appealing than the past three years.

When did I say it was boring?  I said it wasn\'t appealing, that has nothing to do with how the game will be played, I\'m referring to the promotion of the event.  Good job putting words in my mouth.  This time last year we were talking is TO playing, or is he not.  We had talks as to whether the Pats could repeat.  There was a lot going on before the Superbowl.

I wasn\'t talking about the actual game.

And for the record, I do find the Pats games exciting.  They are usually close and come down to the last few minutes.  Better than the friggen blowouts that was the AFC and NFC championship games.

I love how you guys like to disagree with everything I say just so you can attack me.  I was stating my opinion, and you guys misinterpreted it, just so you could take your shots at me.  I don\'t know why, but you guys are very bitter, and it shows in your posts.  I have done nothing wrong, and yet you love to rip me apart.  Forgive me for rooting for the Patriots, I\'m sorry.  Who do you want me to root for?  Rather than be an individual I will conform to whatever you want.  That\'s what you want isn\'t it?

3 things:

(1) You have as much credibility as a monkey.

(2) Ratings will be way down from last years, I guarentee it.

(3) As far as boring goes, you can kiss my ass.
