PCI-Express is newer technology

although no game has yet to saturate 8x AGP bandwidth

See what your motherboard has, download CPU-Z and click the mainboard tab.

It\'ll either give you the specs for AGP or PCI-e

Well the thing is I\'m looking to buy a computer right now THX that has a PCI-Express slot.  I\'m on a pretty crappy computer currently.

The last computer had (something in it burned out and it wont turn on but it dont matter since it is a 1.3ghz and ageIII needs 1.4ghz) a normal PCI slot and a AGP slot.  I was told AGP was better for graphics than PCI and it worried me this new computer only had a PCI slot.  But it is PCI-Express,  which mm said is new technology,  so I should be fine,  right?

PCI-E is to new imo, i\'d go AGP. Simply because while i was in the RMA department at mmt. We got 90% returns on PCI-E cards over AGP.        That was about 3 months ago.

yeah, the worst thing you could do is buy AGP now... nobody is making cards for that slot anymore

PCI-Express.

It\'s not "too new".. AGP is "too old". Soon to be unsupported, killing your upgrade path.

There\'s also the fact that PCI-express motherboards can handle bandwidth better and more efficiently.  Nice if you have several devices that are all doing something.

u work in RMA do u? it\'s to new, it\'s got problems and i saw lots of them.  If he plans on updating his gpu every 6 months. Sure go PCI-E but he\'ll  most likely be updating every few years, by then you might as well get a new mobo/cpu too.

Yeah, get a PCI-E mobo. It\'s questionable if the newest vga cards in about half a year will even release as a agp version.

Soully it\'ll help you\'re argument if you post some links on the matter, even if it\'s complaints en masse on a geek board.  This is the first time I\'ve heard of it.

post links?   i worked in a RMA department and had shit loads of pci-e cards returned. We were selling agp/pci-e at a 1:1 ratio.  That speaks for itself.

point is if you want the best cards available from Nvidia or ATi then you MUST HAVE A PCI-E SLOT.  Although I too do question how much better PCI-e is than AGP, it just dosen\'t make sense to buy a system based on something that\'s about to be phased out.
