Denver voted to legalize possession of small amounts of pot to adults over 21. Kinda cool I guess.

Probably. But isn\'t marijuana illegal in states rather than a federal law? Otherwise, if its a federal law, then I can see the courts would just rule the new vote to be illegal.

Recent Ballet Measure No.2 failed everywhere in the state except my town. Kerry also got majority of votes.

Hey policehat, I\'m planning a trip to Amsterdam next month, so I need to be updated regarding the legality of pot. I realize you can buy it in coffee shops, but is it legal to smoke/carry it in public (i.e. outside of said coffee shops)?

well, technically it isn\'t legal, but you\'re allowed to \'consume\' small portions of it, either in coffeeshops or at home...
people smoking it in public places happens, but I wouldn\'t recommend it, because although it is tolerated to smoke it, it is still not legal...

tourisms always are amazed when they enter a coffeeshop here and see they can buy it just like you would buy a pack of cigarettes (there are whole stacks of boxes placed behind the counter) ;)

I live on the border with germany, sometimes there are even lines at the coffeeshops, filled with germans waiting to get a piece :)
