At me then?  Remember this thread and in 4 plus years from now, see if ICT will ever be implemented.

ICT will be defeated by pirates who want to break it within one year, eight months, six days, let alone four years.  In 2010 ICT will be a relic that won\'t be an issue.

wait, where are all those who were talking about being future proof for the next 10 years? Not one of you has anything to say?

Buy the $600 model?

what about those who buy the $500 model thinking they\'re getting a blu-ray player?  What does Sony say if ICT is implemented?  "Well, kind of...you see, you\'ll be able to play these older movies..."

nobody else thinks this could potentially be a mess?

Oh geez. Lighten up will you?

Its not the end of the world if you have to buy a $5.99 player Anno Domini 2010 IF ICT ever gets used (which I very much doubt now). ;)

And people who are interested in movies most likely will get the $599 model in the first place, HDMI is da new THANG and its digital. Digital > analog everybody knows that. :gfight:

not everybody knows that.

Geez.  I remember when so many of you were saying shit about Microsoft and their two skus, saying how it would confuse the customer.  This is at least as bad as that (I think worse since you can\'t upgrade) and all of you think it\'s perfectly fine.

No since what Microsoft did was split up their userbase when it comes to GAMES, thats the primary function of both of these machines. A 360 Core user CAN NOT play every 360 game, unless he gets the HDD for $100 (?).
On the PS3 a core user will be able to play ALL games, but after 2010 he might not be able to watch every single BD movie in High Def, but thats a secondary function anyway.

Its really no comparison, the 360 situation is far worse.

riku earlier you was kinda actin like a little kid in response to this news, but i guess that can be forgiven as in the past you posted some very respectable threads..that said and if i\'m reading that article above correctly, the xbox is going to have issues here as well right? ultimately at the end of the day people should opt for the 599 version and be done with it. but even if they do implement this ict thing, by 2010 it may not be that big an issue and people will probably be purchasing stand alone players in general...

i\'ve already posted a thread comparing both versions of ps3\'s... this article here is stating some negative things about the ps3, but i think it touches on the issues you speak of...

fasty, Sony is going to market the PS3 as more than a games machine.  Kuturagi is calling it a cheap blu-ray player/super-computer.  Microsoft told every developer to make their games as if not to count on the HDD.  So far, two games are being made with it in mind (Final Fantasy XI and Football Manager).  Seems like the mass majority of developers are listening to MS.

clips, Microsoft is going to run in to the same problem with their HD-DVD add-on.  Why they\'re even bothering I\'m not sure.

It\'s the fact that you\'ll have to buy a stand-alone machine in order to keep your blu-ray library growing.  Why didn\'t Sony include a HDMI slot on the cheaper model?  Are they that expensive?

Probably to force tech heads to throw another $100 their way. The thing is, the lack of an HDMI port has nothing to do with gameplay. The video game console is not affected one way or another. If you want higher potential resolution output, you throw down another $100.

They\'re offering two skus, for better or worse, and that\'s the main question that the consumer is faced with when selecting between them.

They should have released the fully-loaded console only, for $550, if you ask me. Or just bit the bullet and stuck with $500 which, when compared to the X360 doesn\'t seem too bad.
