What makes this FPS so much more interesting than any other FPS on the market?

Weapon design should be what makes Resistance stand out. 32 player online should make a good impression as well.

plus its Insomniac, and their history dictates they just know how to make a fun game.

I\'ll buy this one at launch (If I get a PS3 at launch) simply because it\'s an Insomniac game, and they deliver.

but other then that will just have to wait and see. In the latest interviews I\'ve read they keep saying that there game will have elements that seperate it from other FPS, but they will wait before they divulge too much too soon.

Ok, so maybe people are not interested in it, whatever the game will be ; that\'s no reason to write it off like that or dissing it.

Anyway, IGN had a pretty good interview with Insomniac\'s Ted Price. Some highlights :

The Bulls-Eye\'s primary fire is similar to a traditional assault rifle, but with some cool tracer effects. The secondary fire mode allows you to paint a target, change your position on the battlefield and still hit your mark no matter where you move. We call that tagging. The Bulls-Eye\'s tertiary fire mode, trapping, can almost be divided into two mini-modes. For example, you can create a swarm of bullets and detonate them from a concealed location when an unsuspecting group of enemies moves into the swarm. Or, you can direct the swarm of bullets around the battlefield until you choose to unleash them on some hapless baddies.

I\'ve always loved the proximity mines in GoldenEye and these alternate firing modes seem to recapture that great feeling.

IGN: Will you incorporate the new six-axis tilt controller function?

Price: Yes, Resistance: Fall of Man will incorporate the tilt-y, sense-o-rama type controller. Details to come.

That may turn out neglegible but it may just as well turn out as something very cool.

And yeah... it just looks different than games like UT2007, Halo3 while also not the same as WW2 shooters.

So, all i\'m saying is that Red Steel and this game are imho good examples of promising fps titles on next gen consoles. Give it a chance.

A few more Ted Price quotes:

"Sometimes you\'ll be in the midst of a large battle surrounded by 30 or more allies."

"Resistance: Fall of Man will indeed have more destructible environment parts that ultimately affect gameplay decisions. Players will not be able to hide comfortably behind a lot of the cover objects in the game because they\'ll either chip, splinter, shatter, or be shot away in varying rates based on the weapons firing at it. Plus, we\'ll be littering the environments with a lot more moveable or breakable objects -- stuff which not only makes the world more believable but a lot more chaotic during combat."

"In Resistance: Fall of Man, players will experience a greater variety of environments than is typical for FPS games. As we\'ve done in all of our past games, we\'re placing a strong emphasis on presenting fresh backgrounds as players progress. Our environment team has been taking full advantage of our proprietary rendering engine to create some very cool open levels including larger, more open and interactive environments - huge battlefields, canyons, and massive Chimeran structures among other things."

"The "Hero Moments" in Resistance: Fall of Man give players the chance to alter the course of a firefight by saving allies from certain death or letting them suffer a horrible fate. At E3, we showed our Leapers ambushing several hapless British soldiers, and a large Gray Jack strangling another ally. It\'s up to you how to react to these gameplay situations. You can shoot the Leapers off the soldiers\' backs, or watch as they stab their pincers straight through your buddies\' skulls. For the most part, "Hero Moments" occur organically throughout the levels, though their onset may be triggered by a scripted sequence. Chimeran enemies will have their own unique attacks, allowing for a wider variety of "Hero Moments" throughout the course of the game.

At this point in development, the primary reason for saving a buddy is to keep him in the fight longer. Since there will be hordes of enemies, the more allies you have at your disposal, the better. Allies will also recognize your heroics (or lack thereof) with various comments. We\'re looking at other cool enhancements to our "Hero Moments," so check back with us closer to launch."

We\'re not talking PC gaming, and 32 player online is very new to consoles. heck the Xbox 360 hasn\'t done it yet, so it\'ll be an accomplishment. But the weapons they\'ve dscribed sound like a heluva alot of fun, you should read the article. They go into depth about the different levels of destructable cover, and creating cover etc....

But you are just one negative bitch these days aren\'t ya. It\'s Insomniac, I believe they\'ll have some fun elements in their game... I mean that is why we play, for fun right. Sometimes I\'m not to sure about this when I read peoples posts.

I guess what Insomniac is saying is good enough for me, and it makes me happy. Its a 1st person shooter, if you don\'t like them anymore don\'t play them. I only play a couple here and there, so a 1st person shooter for launch will work for me, because I just don\'t play them all.

IMO you\'ve burnt yourself out on video games and nothing really satisfies you anymore. Everything has been done and thee is rarely something for you to be happy and excited about. I\'m Glad I haven\'t reached that point, but then again I don\'t play 1/10 the games most of you play. If I played games the way some of you do, I\'d be so burnt out I don\'t think I could play another game in my lifetime.

Wrong. Try again. I still enjoy plenty of games.

Whatever the outcome of all these sub or mini discussions ; i think we all can agree that it\'s pretty pointless to write off or flame this Resistance game before it\'s even released.

OK, we\'ll wait. ;]

For people tired of the genre, adding a few more players online or adding another type of automated turret gun doesn\'t lift the genre out of its rut. It\'s just been done to death.

Personally, I wouldn\'t know how to innovate within the genre without relying on the Wii control scheme to do so...

i think the problem is that the people who disliked fps are the one\'s posting in this thread, while the people that do like it are..silent?.....in any case regardless of how i feel about fps..one thing we can agree on is that there is a huge fan base for these types of games, it\'s just that for me personally, every game of this type just seems like a carbon copy of the next fps...

how to add to the FPS genre?

add "encounters" instead of the traditional "run and gun"
force the player to have to figure out how to progress without shooting your gun

i.e. half life 2, and especially half life 2 episode 1.

^ nice point mm, kinda why i like the Tom Clancy games so much.

It\'s refreshing to plan out your attack and use stealth, even if it means avoiding action, just because you know you\'re overwhlemed.

I think the main obstacle FPS\'s have to overcome is predictability & AI.

If you want a new stealth game I suggest Hitman Bloodmoney on a fast PC ; this game\'s great.

and no, the demo is by no means a fair indicator to the game itself...
