no doubt... you know damn well he was probably trying to get a close up shot to see if it was male or female. He probably muttered "Good gurl.....Prahtecting her baybeez like a good muther shwould...." right before he got stuck.

read an article yesterday that the attack was completely unprovoked.  he swam over the animal, and it panicked.

if anything, i\'d say it\'s because he got way too comfortable around animals that have the potential to cause him harm.

ever see the austin stevens episode where we let the 8\' diamondback slither thru his legs on the beach?  he admitted a minute later that it was foolish and the snake could easily have bitten him.  he was actually stunned at his own stupidity.

I haven\'t seen that one. I was waiting for him to get struck when he stuck his hand in a viper pit though.

Even the amount of stupidity he has displayed, for nothing else..I can admire his bravery and passion.

I was really shocked when I heard about it while I was on vacation a couple days ago. I used to watch his shows quite a bit and recently, started watching his newer show where he has his family with him on an RV visiting various places around the US.

I picked up "crikey" from him, as you\'ve probably seen in some of my older posts. It\'s because of Steve Irwin I realized just how far one has to go to see real "wild life" coz we practically changed everything.

First and foremost, Steve Irwin is a Conservationist. More than an animal wrangler. He was one of the first TV personalities to pick up a wild animal (that could kill him) and show us why they do what they do. The older format was to have a camera from a distance watch them behave. Steve Irwin\'s tactics did draw a few criticisms from zoologists but in the end, he did far more good than harm (I think he got more harm out of it than the animals).

Just last weekend, I saw him pick up a poisonous snake out of a tree....fall off and still hold on to the snake\'s tail. Then he puts the snake on a branch to take close up pics of it while the snake is striking at him.

He\'ll die  and hardly anyone knows him as much as Steve Irwin.
