But the new LCD 1080p 120hz is the best of both worlds for both 24fps and 60hz. No more 3:2 pull down. No more jittery panning probles (not everyone notices this but I do ). It\'s perfect for both broadcast and player modes! Of course, it\'s going to be awesome for gaming.

I can finally play Heavenly Sword, Ractchet and Clank, Assassins Creed and Uncharted at 720p or watch blu-ray movies at 24fps and see hi-def football at 60.

But...I gotta wait until January.

I recently bought an LG 32" for the bedroom, but moved it to the living room and gave away my WEga 27" when hockey started.. Buffalo homegames are in HD... but it is clear that I need a larger TV...

i may be getting a new tv for my living room.  I saw that 120hz commercial the other day and was like damn.  That rocks.

I\'ve been running a Toshiba 65H80 Rear Projection monster for a number of years, but I may need to upgrade in 2008.  It only does 1080i and it\'s hard to keep the convergence and geometry calibrated.
 
I\'m just not sure I can step down from 65" in the living room.  Maybe I can rearrange the room and put it closer to the seating...  In any case I will wait for the bitchin\' LCD futuretech.

Testing different demos side by side on 60hz lcds and 120hz lcds it really wasn\'t much of a jump at all.  Not to mention the fact that I hate smoothing features the different tv companies are adding to a lot of the lcds that have 120hz.  It looks like ASS.  Also, in that same testing of 60 and 120hz lcds, we tested a plasma and it stood out by a decent amount with motion shots.  

Don\'t get me wrong I\'d take an lcd but I\'d definitely choose plasma in front of it.

I don\'t want the reflection. The demos you saw make movies look like ass coz they remove all the movie grain and it ends up looking like a camcorder movie. You can tone down the processing so it looks better. You can tone it back up when you\'re watching footballs games or documentaries like "Planet Earth".

Broadcast hi-def runs at 60fps. Movies run at 24fps. The 120hz handles these differences perfectly. If you get an LCD or Plasma at 60, great. But it will have to use the 3:2 pull down when you start playing movies. To me, i notice the jittery motion when the scene pans. Not everyone see this.

Well we tested a bunch of different demos plus watched regular movie stuff on the 120hz lcds.  I\'m a rep for Panasonic plasmas (haha).  Can\'t fault you with not wanting the reflection.  We have a couple anti-glare models which do well but seem to tone down the other advantages of the plasmas.

As for the processing on the smoothing feature, I would definitely turn it down.  How the tvs come out of the box I can\'t handle.  I read a reviewer on CNet that liked it cranked all the way up......stupid.

my 2004 DLP did 48Hz.  It was a projector though so odd RR\'s like 48 & 72 are much more common.

I absolutely hate that,...that camcorder look makes the movie look really cheap....i remember watching some low-budget horror joint that had that boarderline camcorder look and the gore and the overall look of the movie was extremely poor.

120 Hz LCDs look crap from what i know.  it can look smooth and crisp on slow motion video, but when there are fast motion going on, it can make it look blurry and soft.  60 Hz LCDs is cheaper but handle motion more naturally.  but plasmas still beat LCD in the motion area.

If you guys are planning on buying LCD, get the 60 Hz.

60hz ends up having the 3:2 pulldown problem when it comes to movie players. 120hz pretty much does away with that. The 120hz that you thought was crap....again, it was the way it was adjusted in the showroom. 60hz is what is broadcasted over cable, the 120 hz handles that perfectly. 24fps is from the movie players. 120hz plays that perfectly. But the 60hz? 3:2 pulldown crappness.
