Dissappointed with next gen....
« on: March 13, 2008, 07:11:59 PM »
I know i\'m probably in the minority here,...but in sea full 1st person shooters,..lackluster 3rd person shooters, no variety for football,...and just underwhelming gameplay overall,..this current gen gaming has been dissapointing to me....i was really amped for assasins creed, but that game sucks,..too repetitive,...heavenly sword?...good game, but it brings nothing new to the table...(god of war actually plays better than that)..

The only thing that i can say about all of the games is that we can no longer complain about the graphics...army of two?....that game had the potential to be great,...but again gameplay issues and shotty AI hampers this game alot...which brings me to the AI,...for years we\'ve been told that the AI in these games would perform nearly flawlessly yet,..we\'re still seeing AI that will run right into a barrage of bullets and die....i know it\'s hard to program AI to do certain things, but with todays tech, i think it should be better than it is....

I guess you can say i\'m just ranting,...i\'m just kinda shocked that the big games that have been released already are just mediorce....yes there are a few that are actually good... gears of war, oblivion and maybe devil may cry from what i hear,...idk i guess i\'m just gettin tired of hearin that just about every game that\'s bein\' created is a 1st person shooter, which i hate....then all of the other games that are out are just severly lacking in gameplay,..yea they look good, but something is painfully amiss in the gameplay...

anyway i\'m just ranting a bit,....i\'m a bit grouchy i guess because i was kinda lookin\' foward to army of two bein\' somewhat decent,..but i\'m not even going to try to convince myself that it\'s good,...when i saw the last few gameplay trailers for it,..i knew that it would be lackluster....thoughts?

No one cares about your gammy.
Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

assassins had the same problem as mass effect..the developers have a HUGE world to make, and have everything look right, that gameplay had to take a back seat. sounds like theyre/im making actual gameplay sound trivial, but thats what had to be done for those games to work. Now if the next games have a lack of variety in sidequests, then i will have a problem. People have way to high of expectations out of these 1st set of games that are already trying to accomplish way more than they can chew.

But overall your right. Last gen console shooters were a joke, now they can actually make them fun, so people jump on the wagon, and if your into those games, theres a really good selection (cod and vegas mainly for me, but theres still other decent ones).

Army of two...i think a lot of people thought wouldnt be as good as it could be. I always had a feeling itd be a good coop experience, and play once or twice, but thats about it. The thing with having all these shooters, is that it does take a lot for one to be recognized more than the others..COD 4 set a new bar with arcadey/realism mixes, R6 series still has some room to grow but seeing as i went from hating the developers for ditching the pc crowd to probably buying both games on this gen is a big step.

just turn into a pessimist, and everything will work out :D. You think gears of war is one of the best games this gen..you\'re probably going to be disappointed. It doesnt separate itself that much from the other games..especially now that more games have been released.

^^^Tru enough...i need to lower my expectations a bit,...which is something that i actually always do,..but i just kinda thought that with the current tech we have now, alot of what developers said that they couldn\'t do with last gen\'s tech, they would definitely be able to do it now....but i guess they were just reachin\' really hard. But yeah i gotta look at it from their perspective...it takes alot to create huge worlds and to detail them and then add everything else that goes along with it.

And i guess developers are still in the early stages of learning how to program properly on these machines,...so yeah i guess i need to give\'em some slack...in the near future i\'ll probably pick up army of two, heavenly sword, alone in the dark and possibly lost planet....looking foward to deep space, mgs, silent hill 5 and res evil 5 as well.

gta4 comes out at the end of next month, and its been sounding amazing..id definitly pass on army of two and just get that, unless you\'ll always have another person to play with. I heard ur teamate AI is pretty bad.

I\'ve got a few games on my radar..gta4, star wars: the force unleashed looks huge, battlefield: bad company.

Im more tired of hearing about games for 3 years and getting tired of waiting than anything else..fallout 3, brothers in arms: hells highway, prototype..

Not true. Each system has been out long enough to have a solid library of games and every system is lacking really.
My Hi-Def movie collection (much smaller than the SD one).

Well I kind of feel the same.

Only a couple of games made me go "wow", but the majority of the so called AAA titles are not executed well, and/or are the typical shooter/FPS we always got on PCs.

The 360 has some games I want to get on my hands, and despite that its been in the market for more than 2 years, they are few. Well, I have most of them anyways and thats Bioshock and Gears of War. Which also happen to be shooters

The PS3 surprisingly for me has a few more upcoming titles I am interested in, probably because of the great franchises I was experiencing on the PS2, that will eventually appear on a next gen form and because they are more of the console experience I always loved.

I am definitely not the guy that is into games that are best known for their playability on PCs.

I\'m pretty much just waiting for Metal Gear Solid 4.

Resident Evil 5\'s trailer made me shit my grandmothers underwear, too.

That\'s about it.

Which is why old school gaming will never die...

8-bit & 16-bit > Current Gen

Such a shame Saturn & Dreamcast, 2 of the greatest of all time, died so prematurely while graphics, hype, and Blu-Ray are what sells today...

Still want Resident Evil 5, though...
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

And this is why you\'re my all time favorite poster.

Respect for the Saturn & Dreamcast. The two greatest systems ever. The Saturn is one of the single most underrated systems.

I\'m not disappointed with this gen so far, as a Wii60 owner.

I don\'t see how one could be. I understand the "LAST GEN BUT WITH BETTER GRAPHICS" fatigue, but otherwise...

Own a 360, its really hard for me to say if I\'m disappointed or not.  In some respects, i wish there was a larger variety of games.  I\'ve been dying to play a good tactical game/RPG.  Those seem to be having a larger home in the current portable systems.  But really, I\'m content with the games because I don\'t have the time to really exhaust the titles that I am interested in.  If I were still in high school and had more free time, I think I\'d have to agree with Clips.
