Solid Snake’s story is finished, but that doesn’t mean Konami is going to seal the Metal Gear Solid franchise in an early grave. The first sign of a new Metal Gear Solid game comes from the Japanese Trademark database where Konami registered Metal Gear Existence with the boring image on the right. It’s made to be used with video games so it’s likely, very likely, the name of a future Metal Gear Solid game. Going by the title alone it sounds like we’re going to visit the existence - or origins of the Metal Gear Solid franchise. So, will this be another game starring Big Boss? Let the wild pre-Tokyo Game Show speculation begin!

[size=+1]Sony Reveals Demon\'s Souls[/size]

Sony and From Software\'s hardcore PS3 action RPG playable at TGS.

In this week\'s issue of Weekly Famitsu magazine, Sony Computer Entertainment made the first announcement of Demon\'s Souls, a new "dark fantasy" action RPG under development by Armored Core makers From Software. The game, which will be playable at the Tokyo Game Show next week, is due out for the PlayStation 3 next year in Japan.
While details are still scant on Demon\'s Soul, SCE Japan producer Takeshi Kajii described the game to Famitsu as a spiritual successor to King\'s Field, the From-developed first-person RPG that first hit it big on the original PlayStation. "I am a fan of From Software, but naturally that also means there are parts of their games I\'m not satisfied with, too," he said. "If this was a new King\'s Field game, there would be areas we wouldn\'t be able to touch since they\'re part of the series; working together like this, we can try to make something really new."

Demon\'s Souls takes place in the kingdom of Boletaria, currently enshrouded in a deep fog thanks to its king inadvertently unleashing an ancient monster from his slumber. You, a nameless hero who you\'re free to customize Elder Scrolls-style, must penetrate into Boletaria and save the kingdom -- but like many US RPGs these days, the game is slated to be extremely open-ended. "You get only the barest minimum of a goal, and there\'s nothing forcing you to do anything in the game," Kajii said. "People say to you \'Save the world,\' but you can ignore them and keep going if you like."

The way Kajii and From Software director Hidetaka Miyazaki described it, Demon\'s Souls is a bit of a hybrid -- an RPG that uses the PS3\'s hardware to the hilt while still retaining the challenge and exploration of traditional role-players. Your hero can use a wide variety of weapons, each of which has different attacks and animations depending on how skillful you are or whether you\'re using one hand or two, and the game\'s physics system places natural limits on what\'s possible in any given tactical situation. "We gave a lot of thought to how to make the fun and charms of a classic RPG interesting all over again with the latest technology at hand," Miyazaki noted. "We figured that doing the things that previous hardware ignored -- having long weapons bump into walls, lighting the area in realtime with the torch in your hand -- would make the game that much more fun. We\'re taking the things you did through menus in Wizardry and letting you carry them out in real life." (Miyazaki also hinted that while Demon\'s Souls won\'t have multiplayer, he would still like to "find a way to use the Internet to make the single-player mode more interesting.")

There\'s no shortage of new Kingdom Hearts games coming out for handhelds, but what about the real sequel fans have been waiting for since Kingdom Hearts II was released in 2006? If a rumor in the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine is to be believed, we\'ll soon find out all about Kingdom Hearts III at the Tokyo Game Show in early October. And, not very surprisingly, it\'ll purportedly be a PlayStation 3 exclusive.

The rumor comes by way of GOONL!NE (via Kotaku), which reports that the latest issue of OPM (likely an oversees version of the mag, although it wasn\'t specified) has this to say in their rumor section: "Kingdom Hearts III is currently in development as a PS3 exclusive and will be announced at TGS." Can\'t get any more straight-forward than that, huh?

While it makes enough sense that Kingdom Hearts would remain a PlayStation exclusive, we\'re not quite ready to call this anything more than a rumor just yet. Remember -- the last time we heard a rumor from OPM, it turned out to be off the mark. But frankly, we\'d be surprised if Square Enix didn\'t have KHIII in development already. And if there was a place to unveil it, TGS seems as good as any. We\'ll just have to wait and see what happens when the show kicks off on October 9.

There\'s a lot of attention being placed on Sega\'s recent partnership with Platinum Games, and for good reason too. Platinum Games comes from the ashes of former Capcom devs Clover Studios, which met an untimely death after the lackluster sales of its critically acclaimed Okami. With a resume that includes games like Resident Evil and Devil May Cry, Platinum Games has a strong legacy to live up to.

So what did we think about their first PS3 game, Bayonetta? It looked strangely familiar -- probably because it\'s from Hideki Kamiya, the creator of the original Devil May Cry. His new creation looks almost like a carbon copy of the recently released DMC4. In fact, the engine and textures look identical, especially with the way the game renders light and particle effects. (We wouldn\'t be surprised if Kamiya "borrowed" some tech and assets from Capcom before he left.)

The gameplay looks rather similar too, as its focus is on kicking ass in the most stylish way possible. We have no complaints, but seeing angel-esque characters circle around the main character, as she dishes out combos had us recoiling in a bit of rather recent nostalgia (DMC4 released earlier this year. You also fought angel-like enemies in that game).

I often ask myself, why is every game either about World War and/or FPS. More sword and magic please! Guess there is a good quantity on each side, and we fail to realize that because we would like every game to be something good we could play.

there\'s definitly a grip of normal FPS\'s, but theres really only one rpg FPS...i dont count bioshock as that

fallout is still a little different from what i really want, since it\'s probably not as realistic as stalker (in terms of guns and some gameplay mechanics.. obviously not the identical premise of radioactive monsters)
