A \'Lead Character Artist\', a requirement of which is to be "aware of current urban style and street fashion". An \'Art Director\' to improve the aesthetic quality of future games. A \'Lead Animator\' to take the character performances to "the next level of depth, believability and impact" And a \'Network Programmer\' to implement an "on-line component for our forthcoming AAA title". inFAMOUS sequel, with improved graphics/animation and an online component? We\'ll be waiting a while for the announcement, for sure.
Hi everyone! This is Zico Liu, programmer on WipEout HD; you all might remember me from the “Beat Zico” trophy. Before I talk about what I’ve been up to on the WipEout HD Fury expansion pack, I would just like to let you know that the pack will be available from PlayStation Store on Thursday, July 23rd for $9.99.The pack will provide three new race types – Eliminator, Zone Battle and Detonator, 12 new tracks, 13 new ships, 6 new music tracks, a redesigned menu system, a new campaign to complete as well a host of new trophies to win. Oh and let’s not forget the additional ranks for you to achieve online. We are really excited about the content and hope you enjoy all the new features.Also, on Tuesday July 21st, we are releasing a free update to the existing game. If you boot up WipEout HD at around 5pm GMT, you will be prompted to download the update. It will add a number of new features and tweaks to menus of the game including a brand new statistics section, new redesigned ship and track select screens and some new community/online features.Now let’s get back to what I’ve been up to since HD was originally released. I’ve been busy working on the new game modes, mostly Eliminator and Zone Battle but also a bit on Detonator...
All in all, Fury is a wonderful addition to WipEout HD – the new sections are incorporated nicely, there are new Trophies and ship models to work with and we’re sure that the WipEout community will absolutely lap up the new tracks. WipEout HD Fury is out tomorrow on the PlayStation Store as part of what we’ve called the PSN’s best week so far.
Sony Computer Entertainment chairman and CEO Kazuo Hirai will be delivering this year\'s Tokyo Game Show keynote address, the event\'s organisers have announced. The session entitled \'New Tactics for 2009\' will take place on September 24 at 10.30am. A two hour time slot has been allotted and will include a panel discussion with execs from Capcom, Sony, Bandai Namco and Square Enix, according to the event website. This year\'s Tokyo Game Show will take place between September 24 and 27. The full line up of speakers is yet to be confirmed.
Castle Crashers has been one of the bright lights on Xbox Live Arcade since it was released last August. The stylized side-scrolling brawler offered a winning mix of solid action, quirky charm, and four-player co-op play. Unfortunately, PlayStation 3 owners haven\'t been able to get in on the fun--until now. The Behemoth is taking the wraps off of Castle Crashers for the PlayStation 3 at Comic-Con today and is showing off the first playable version of the upcoming downloadable title. It\'s official. A blog update on the official Japanese Yakuza series website has confirmed that Yakuza 4 is in development and under the subtitle, Inherit The Legend. The game will use the latest in motion capture technology to make characters and voice-overs appear as real as can be.The game\'s listed for PlayStation 3. We\'ll have more as it comes in.
Taiwan OEMs recently have placed significant orders for key Sony PS3 components from IC distributors, with average monthly volume enough for making one million units of the games console in the third quarter, double the average in the second quarter, according to sources with IC distributors.The sources estimated the growth momentum will remain strong through October thanks to the year-end holiday demand.PS3\'s chipset is provided by Renesas Technology, and supply is falling short of the strong demand currently, the sources noted.Sales of time division synchronizers used in PS3 have also increased, and shipments are expected to top four million units per month in the third quarter, added the sources.
Kotaku writes.... Japan\'s DDM.tv is bringing on-demand Blu-ray quality HD adult movies to the PLAYSTATION 3. The service requires a broadband connection, an HDMI cable and, obviously, a PS3 console - the only device the service works with presently.
This is where you can start hemming and hawing over the mystery game in question, and before you even ask, NO, this isn\'t the secret PlayStation 3 exclusive that we at PSXE know about. That remains vaulted.Anyway, Capcom has teased the snot out of the entire gaming community by issuing a Tweet, which very clearly hints at a brand new sequel. Supposedly, whatever it is, it\'s gonna "blow our minds." Here\'s the message for those of you who are morally opposed to the idea of Twitter (we know you people are out there, and we don\'t necessarily blame you):"In five, we\'re having a meeting to discuss a new game sequel that will BLOW YOUR MIND when you find out about it... much, much later."The bad news is that "much, much later" part, but what do you think it might be? We\'ve been pining for Devil May Cry 5 ever since the fourth installment gave us so much quality entertainment, although we get the feeling they\'re already working on that. We suppose it could be another Resident Evil or Monster Hunter or something, but neither would be any big surprise. Perhaps it\'s a project like Okami 2...? They just did a new Street Fighter and we already know about Lost Planet 2...maybe a Phoenix Wright for home consoles (instead of handhelds)? Or, for the RPG fans, how\'s about a new Breath of Fire?
The emphasis in the here and now however is on something that PS3 owners should be getting very excited about... "We are currently concentrating on new game projects and I am happy to say that we will be announcing something at gamescom in Cologne," revealed Kuittinen. "All I can say right now is that it is a PS3 PSN exclusive title we have been working on quite a while now, and yes... shooting is an integral part of the game..."
Well, thanks to SCEE forum moderator Yaster, the whole World now knows that Lost And Damned will be heading the way of the PS3 (we don’t call it PlayStation 3 anymore, as no-one else is). In a thread on the PlayStation.com forums (which has now been removed, presumably by another moderator) a rather excitable Yaster said, in reference to Gamescom opening up to the public today:And they were certainly showing some PS3 love – Grand Theft Auto: The Lost and the Damned was available to play in a special 18+ area, we didn’t manage to get our hands on it due to the MASSIVE queue – but those inside looked pretty ***** excited.
Sony has confirmed that the changes made to the new PS3 Slim SKU are not just cosmetic: additional features have been added, and OtherOS functionality has been removed. In this press release, the company confirms that support for the Linux platform has been completely omitted in the new unit, but also reveals that perhaps more usefully, the new unit now interfaces directly with Sony\'s own Bravia HDTVs, allowing users to take control of the XMB via their television remotes. It also allows you to turn off both display and PS3 using just a single press of the standby button. All that is required to utilise this feature is for the new PS3 to be connected to the display using the standard HDMI connection. The new functionality essentially makes the PS3\'s enviable media-playback facilities that much more accessible and user-friendly to those who also buy into Sony\'s range of screens. The omission of Linux is a little more puzzling, but perhaps not completely surprising. Actual take-up of Linux amongst the core audience has been slight, and perhaps some of the blame for this lies with Sony itself: installing the OS is time-consuming, the partitioning system on the internal hard disk is a bit of a pain, and access to Linux once it is installed is annoying to deal with, as there is no easy way to switch quickly between the PS3 GameOS or the installed OtherOS. The fact there is little to no meaningful access to the RSX graphics chip has also frustrated Linux users. Sony\'s blurb states that the focus of the PS3 Slim is "on delivering games and other entertainment content" and that this is the reason for OtherOS omission, but the fact is that Sony\'s business lives and dies on its installed base buying games for their new hardware, and a PS3 bought exclusively for running Linux does the company no favours from a financial perspective. Right now, the PS3 Slim is still more expensive than buying an entry-level Dell which would perform better with the OS, but with console hardware in general and PS3 Slim in particular, the only way is down price-wise, and sooner or later PS3 would become an irresistible prospect as a cheap desktop PC, or even server... uses which sound cool but won\'t boost Sony\'s bottom line. What the axing of Linux does mean however is that interesting projects such as the CodecSys h264 video encoder will not work on the new PS3 SKU, and any similar projects aimed at utilising the Cell CPU in a project not licensed and approved by Sony are now less likely to make it to the public. However, from Sony\'s perspective, the removal of OtherOS functionality also has other benefits. For example, it means that the PS3 can now no longer be used to rip Blu-ray movies to hard disk...
