Phantasy Star Online gets 40/40 from famitsu:
« on: December 13, 2000, 01:42:42 AM »
I know this is a PS2 forum, but with only 3 games in history to get a perfect score from this publication, I figured the news was too big to pass up.  I also am aware there are many Dreamcast owners here, and I know you wouldn\'t be more estatic then knowing you will be able to pick up this masterpiece within only a few months time. Enjoy :)

Following my other topic, the actual numerical score has now been confirmed: 40/40, PERFECT.

Ranking in with Soul Calibur and Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Phantasy Star Online just ranked in as one of Famitsu\'s three greatest games of all time.
Before Zelda\'s N64 debut in November of 1998, no game had ever received 40/40 from Japan\'s definitive gaming magazine, Famitsu. Almost a year later, Namco came out with the second title ever to receive this high acclaim, Soul Calibur.

In this week\'s issue of Famitsu, Sonic Team\'s Phantasy Star Online became the pinnacle in multi-player console RPGs with the third 40/40 ever to be awarded by the magazine.

Due to hit Japanese shelves on December 21st, we\'re confident that the Dreamcast\'s latest triple A title will have Japanese gamers drooling nation wide. A US and European release will follow on February 23rd with online and offline gaming available to anyone lucky enough to get their hands on a copy.
Stupid Quote of the week:

\"Overall, [the DC] has a lot of decent software, but nothing but not a single game that I\'d have to run out to buy a Dreamcast to play.\"

Zelda & Soul Calibur... didn\'t you read the quote?

Vagrant Story just missed a perfect score, as did Virtual On OT.

That is great though, 2 DC games out f 3 are ranked as perfect! This is very respected magazine among the japanese public. Maybe this will spark a few hundred sales. Which will, sadly, bring the total to about 400. Damn people avoid every great game out their and instead by weird crap like Dancing sims and stuff. :(

All I gotta say, with a score this good, this game better sell over 300,000 in Japan. Which, a the time, would be very good for DC, cause I know it will complete upto million status with American sales, IMO we are not as blind to good games out here. :)

Let\'s go ahead and say 450,000, shall we :) After all, it is a PERFECT score. Let\'s see what JapanDC and FamitsuDC give it though :)

It aint looking good, the series on average has been getting just good scroes, not excellent, or none at all were perfect. I don\'t expect them too, unless they can dream up a way to not make the damn games be boring with no direction. I, along with many other people, can\'t stand battling every 2 steps witha random battle. They need to go the Chrono Trigger/Grandia way, in which you can see the guy who may or may not attack you.

Actually, Final Fantasy 9 has been receiving rave reviews - even from diehard old FF fans that hated FF7 and 8.

yeah, I know, I forgot to add that.

Many of my friends love FF9. They all think FF7 is the best (not true, 6 is the best by far), but they think this one is VERY good, definetly better than 8. their are still some flaws though, they say.

Anything is a step up from 8 though, you know you NEVER need to use magic in the game or even bare attacks after you get a few GF\'s. THe game is pretty pointless, GF, GF, GF, etc. This new one has a much better forumla.

I was pretty sure Vagrant Story got 40/40 too.  I remember it was all over the IGN when that happened.  They were saying how Famitsu only ever gave this to 2 games, as mentioned above.

I even remember reading Famitsu\'s top 40 games ever rated in their magazine.  They actually placed Vagrant Story at the #1 spot and gave Zelda: OoT the #2 spot.

Anyway Phantasy Star Online is going to be way awesome when I buy it.  Can hardly wait.  My DC is aching for it right now.  It\'s bored with Shenmue and is playing Code Veronica but wants something more ONLINE.

Goodness. This reminds me of the Genesis days when you couldn\'t keep up with all the great games for Sega.
