has anyone else had problems with the ps2 in the vertical position?
cos i had SSX playing with the ps2 in vertical and the disk got a nice round scratch!!
What should i do?
Should i get in contact with sony?, go back to the shop and tell the truth? or go back to the shop and say it was scratched when i bought the game?

thanx for any help!

I havent had any problems with my PS2 in its vertical position. Did you bump it while you were playing maybe. I would say go to the store and tell them the truth. I have heard of several incidents of this happening and your local shop should be aware of it. Maybe they will give you a new copy. Good Luck! -Matt

Thats one of the things I don\'t like about the PS2. The more moving parts on something the more that can breakdown. Drives like that suck. I would be scared of touching it everytime it comes out.

Yeah, I would take the PS2 and game disk back and tell them what happened. A scratch like that all the way around the DVD would almost be impossible to make on purpose or by simply mishandling the disk, so they can\'t claim it\'s your fault. That round scratch was from something inside the PS2 (maybe the optical head?) that touched the disk while it was spinning.

If you use the PS2 in vertical, I\'d make sure to have a nice, stable stand with it. And it probably needs to be on a stable surface. Thick carpeting would not be good.

Hope that helps.

It seems like this is happening more and more, every time I come to the board. It seems as rampant as Sega\'s faulty disks at launch, or PSX\'s burn outs, I hope if there is a problem, Sony doesnt skirt around the fact al la PSX and admit it.

Is the scratch a perfect circle? (just wondering)

I don\'t know where i read this, i think another forum, but some guy said that he read in a game manual or ps2 book that the ps2 can scratch or harm software when it is in the vertical position.  Just tellin u what he said.

Man you cant put it in the vertical position!  It will eat the disk because when you put the disk in it just lays there.  It isnt like you are snapping it in.  So im sure having something rubbing up againt the laser isnt good for it and I have heard from a lot of people that there PS2\'s have broke from having it vertical.  If anyone has theres still on a vertical should take it off immediately and put it horizontal.  Its worth too much money to break!

Why wopuld you use it in the vertical position anyway? It may be cool the first or second time but after that it just looks awkward.

Why not?

If you use a stand there is nothing wrong with placing the PS2 verticle.  Though in the manual it plainly states not to change positions while in use, in other words, if you power on the unit while it\'s verticle, don\'t change it to horizontal.  That\'s probably how the disc got scratched.  Certainly the PS2 cools better in the verticle position and it takes up much less floor / table space.

I\'ve seen this complainment before.

I\'m getting more and more suspicious for the vertical stand.

BTW, did you use the vertical stands shifty? They\'re meant to be there, otherwise the scratches could be possible. With the official ´product \'tho you should return the friggin thing ( PS2 ) if the problem doesn\'t disappear.

EDIT: Be careful while playing on vertical position. If you pull the pad too hard the PS2 can fall to the ground and the disk is surely scratched. Don\'t let animals come near your PS2 if it\'s in vertical stand even if it has those "stands". Animals can easily push it down.

I usually don\'t let animals come nearby my console because they use to ( our cats ) bite the wires... stupid morons.

Heh... we had 2 tiny sweet gerbils as well. My mom hated them, and then one day they escaped their cage ( wich was partly plastic. You know how sharp those little teeth are ) and hided between walls. My mom was in panic; she almost killed the gerbils while she was jumping around trying to find a chair to sit down. It was funny to watch, yes :) I had to evade my Playstation from the house.

BTW, I\'m going to report you in, you animalkiller! :)
accident? huh? That\'s what they all say...
