First of all yes, the DC2 or something will nto be there to compete against Sony. Too bad too...
And we all know that the PS2 was hyped up to be this amazingly powerful unstoppable graphics pumping machine, but during the launch few games actually looked better then waht DC could do, some not even as good as what the DC could do. Anyway, compared to the PSX and N64 the graphics were still impressive. Since DC was already out with amazing games like NFL2k the shock factor in graphics was lower for the PS2. If DC was never there the shock factor would have been huge for the PS2...atleast for some games.
Now that Sega is not making another system the PS3 will probably be the first 5th generation system released. SO, if that is the case then Sony is going to get the first major shock to the people with "Wow, that\'s amazing!" Instead of "Cool, looks a little better then Dreamcast."
Sony is going to be able to hype the PS3 so much and this time around the hype won\'t all be lost because it will truly be amazing to all of us. And by then programmers will also be able to use the system\'s power a little more readily off the bat because The Emotion Engine 3, which is going to be used for the PS2, is going to be based off of relatively the same architecture as the first EE chip in PS2. Atleast programmers with experience on the PS2. I\'m sure their will be plenty because there\'s no doubt in my mind that the PS2 will be at the top by itself or possibly with another console bu I am almost certain it will be up there.
So Sega leaving the conosle hardware business is going to be a plus for Sony in the future. Of course sega is going to be a sweet 3rd party developer though...
