First of all yes, the DC2 or something will nto be there to compete against Sony.  Too bad too...

And we all know that the PS2 was hyped up to be this amazingly powerful unstoppable graphics pumping machine, but during the launch few games actually looked better then waht DC could do, some not even as good as what the DC could do.  Anyway, compared to the PSX and N64 the graphics were still impressive.  Since DC was already out with amazing games like NFL2k the shock factor in graphics was lower for the PS2.  If DC was never there the shock factor would have been huge for the PS2...atleast for some games.

Now that Sega is not making another system the PS3 will probably be the first 5th generation system released.  SO, if that is the case then Sony is going to get the first major shock to the people with "Wow, that\'s amazing!"  Instead of "Cool, looks a little better then Dreamcast."

Sony is going to be able to hype the PS3 so much and this time around the hype won\'t all be lost because it will truly be amazing to all of us.  And by then programmers will also be able to use the system\'s power a little more readily off the bat because The Emotion Engine 3, which is going to be used for the PS2, is going to be based off of relatively the same architecture as the first EE chip in PS2.  Atleast programmers with experience on the PS2.  I\'m sure their will be plenty because there\'s no doubt in my mind that the PS2 will be at the top by itself or possibly with another console bu I am almost certain it will be up there.

So Sega leaving the conosle hardware business is going to be a plus for Sony in the future.  Of course sega is going to be a sweet 3rd party developer though...

Anyone else\'s thoughts feel free to respond...

Oh and in case you were wondering the reason it is Emotion Engine 3 is because the EE 2 is being released in 2002 as a high powered graphics workstation for movie productions and rendering, much like the GSCube is right now.  It is supposed to be 200-300 x\'s more powerful then the EE 1 chip in PS2.

The EE 3 will be released in 2005 and is going to be placed within the PS3 with a supposed 1,000 x\'s the power of the EE 1 in the PS2.

Just to clear up any confusion...

Ya then the XBox2 will come along and blow the PS3 out of the water (graphic wise at least).

Possibly, but it seems to me that the XBox right now isn\'t blowing the PS2 out of the water with the games they\'ve shown now.  Especially since the major "SCHOCK" factor is gone to the likes of the Dreamcast.  And to the PS2 for game like MGS2.

IF XBox ever gets off the ground, which it just might do, then we will probably see the likes of the XBox2...but still PS2 is going to be the starting of the 5th generation of gaming.

It will be intersting to see if other companies can keep up with SOny

The PS2 is thew 1st step in Sonys architexture which is being made and tuned to the specific function of playing Videogames

I guess if the PS3 comes close to hitting the target of being 1000 x\'s more pwoerful then its safe to say a PIII or PowerPC processor won\'t be up to the task

Will Intel or AMD have a PC processor pwoerful enough to maintain that easy to develop for angle or WIll MS and Nintendo be forced to find a more powerful alternative processor to kepp up and lose that easy to program for angle they are banking on this generation, cause SOny\'s architexture will be quite familiar by PS3

Food for thought

Hmmm...

eventually Sony will win. Well, Sony\'s the first one to Announce the next-next-generation console ( whatever it is called; lets just say PS3 :) ); Microsoft is doing their console right now but it\'s not going to be nothing as powerful as Ps3 ( someone could say we haven\'t heard the tech details yet, and we won\'t for few years, but for the logic\'s sake let me say that it will be POWERFUL!!! ), Nintendo hasn\'t said anything about a new console.

So... Eventually I think sony\'s the only console-developer. I\'m not sure here \'tho because I\'m no foreteller. Just predictions...

this is way off line, I also read the ps3 is going to be 1000x faster than ps2, but it\'s a bit fat fetched to draw conclusions to this, cause xbox \'n\' gamecube aren\'t even out yet, and although sony is probably already working on ps3, they have little idea about what the final result will be.

if you want to speculate on it, that\'s fine with me, but don\'t draw conclusions, I have no doubt the ps3 will kick ass though, but I\'m happy with my ps2 at this moment.

lamo, i was at work yesterday and, this little kid was standing there by the game case, he was about 7 or 8 or 9 somethin like that, anyways, i was looking at ps2 games and he sad, and i quote " x box is better", i turned around andstarted telling the kid that the x box might look better but wont cut it when the games come out, and the dc dilema etc. etc. so later i saw him with his mom saying and i quote again " mom i want a ps2 " mwaha i love it

I was just bringing up a point and the 1,000 x\'s more powerful then the PS2 is an aimed goal for Sony not necesarilly what it will be.  Oh and I don\'t think it will be 1,000 x\'s the speed of the PS2 the Pres of SCEA just said they\'re aiming for 1,000 x\'s the power for the PS3.

nothing happened to indreama I think... but it\'s sleeping in its quietness: no hype, no game-developer announcements, no game-announcements...

I don\'t even know when it\'s coming out!

And when I visited the site it gave me a vision that Indreama isn\'t a gaming console at all!!!

Wake up Indreama, if you\'re going to sell your console...

Do you think that Sony is the only one who would have access to a chip that fast??? Microsoft\'s console is going to be in the same position the PS2 is this time around. Everone is gonna wow at the Xbox2 simply because it will be more powerful than the PS3 (at least it might happen).

The reason I think that MS is gonna win the console war is cause its a software company, and Sony is a hardware company. Games sell the console, not the other way around. MS has a built in advatage from the begining cause they know how to make great games. Plus, they went around and had developers design the console, they didnt just lock themselves in a room and design this super hard mega computer like Sony did. Plus they have developers eating out of there hand with the idea of no licensing fees. That means its a one time charge for the Dev Kit and every dime you make is yours. That sweetens the deal alot of little developers.
