Does this contraption take away all the scratches? Is it worth the money? How does it work? Can it be used on DVD\'s and PS2 games?

the GameDoctor DOES NOT REMOVE the scratches..what is does is it resurfaces the cd..in other words, it smoothes the cd so that when the laser hits the scratched area, it will not bounce or skip..

So If I had a really scratched up disk that refused to load, the game doctor would allow me to play it without removing the scratches?

if you had a scratched up disk..it all depends on how deep the scratch is..if its REAL DEEP then i dont..if its a slight deep scratch..the gamedoctor might be able to resurface it..but its not 100% definite that it will get it to work..

I just thought of something. If you kept using the game doctor on the disk over and over again, wouldn\'t it eventually get rid of the scratch? Then again, wouldn\'t it eventually change the shape of the disk itself? Does it work like a buffer or sander? If so, you probably shouldn\'t use it repeatively on the same disk, right?

no its not a buffer or sander..if you use the gamedoctor over and over on the disk..nothing will happen to it..if you want go to a store and read the package..maybe that will help you out..or just buy the gamedoctor and try it..we [EB] use the gamedoctor on used games that we get when customers trade in their games

Bandit, I\'m just curious, Do you get all your merchandise at EB for an insanely high discount, since your an employee? I have a friend whose friend\'s cousin\'s friend knows someone whose friends with a guy named Bill who works at EB that claims to get all of his merchandise for practically free. Sorry for the complicated wording up above, I probably didn\'t get it all right, but that\'s the situation. And how the hell did you get a job at EB? Here in Cincy, there are about a half-dozen EBs and no openings. In fact, they have waiting lists for people who desire to work at EB. This is crazy. At my local EB, this guy Donnie has been there for close to 6 years now. Nobody wants to leave. Is the Pay that good? Are the benefits that good? what gives. Bandit, why is it so hard to become an employee of EB.

My friend seems to know a lot about CD resurfacing, and here is what he said to me a while back, copied and pasted:

Quote
The thing about a "CD Doctor", or any consumer **** that claims to fix CD scratches is that it is only designed to work on standard, replicated, 650MB CDs.
Getting that **** to work with duplicated (burned) CDs is iffy. Getting it to work with giga-roms and DVD discs, and PS2 CDs is a bad idea. I know this because I tried that first. Not only did it not work, it caused more damage.
Most CD-doctor thingy\'s use a type of compound similar to Novus #2, which is an abrasive thick liquid that acts like sandpaper. It is coated on the CD, and hopefully, it is removed evenly, and in a motion that doesn\'t circle around the CD.

And then they usually have a 2nd chemical that shines it up.
But the concept is simple, remove scratches by removing THE REST of the unscratched plastic, so everything is at an even level again, and the laser can pass through the plastic bottom of the CD without distortion.
The biggest problem with most CD-doctors is they dont spread the 1st compound on evenly, and the buffing motion isn\'t smooth or fast enough, so you even out a big scratch, but end up with a CD bottom that looks like you actually took sandpaper to it.

The machine that The Glen Burnie Power Gamer has is a proffessional CD resurfacer, and it goes for like $8K, so it works pretty well.
I dont work there, and Im not trying to plug them, but you can imagine my relief when I got my busted TTT disc fixed for a measley $10, after it stopped working the FIRST night I had, after I just coughed up $650 for the PS2 and TTT, a month after it came out in Japan.

So it\'s a matter of paying around $30 to see if the Game Doc will work on your scratched discs, or finding a place that houses a professional Disc Resurfacer and paying ~$10 each time for a new scratch.  This Power Gamer store is in Glen Burnie, Maryland if you live around there.

Oh yes.

Keep the discs clean. Keep them unscratched. If a cat scratches your disc, command the cat to buy a new game or blame your sister whom loves the cat more.

If your sister or brother or mother or father scratches/breaks disc then make them buy new.

no i dont get my merchadise from EB at a insanely high discount..i ONLY get 10% [same with ALL EB\'s]..as for the friends part..i doubt hes getting all his merchandise for pratically FREE..cuz they have to add the transaction into the computer and then do employee\'s discount..EVERY and i mean EVERY transaction is kept on record..so any funny business and it will be found..hes probably talking about those promotional items..but then that friends part kinda sounds like a telephone [where info is passed down from one another and the message is changed]

as for getting a job at EB..i handed my application before the X-Mas holiday..i think 2 days after Thanksgiving..and i got a phone call the next day [i also handed my application in at Software ETC and got a phone call from them the next day as well]. if you do get a job at EB its most likely going to be temporarily or seasonal..lucky for me its permanent..it all depends on how well you work..you work well you get the job permanently, you did OK, you might lose the job

as for the pay, it all depends on your experience in sales/retail and if you have any previous jobs they will try to match the pay..the commission is pretty good..i/we get 20% of the ESA [Extended Service Agreement]. ESA is the warranties you buy with the systems..so if you buy a $50 2-year warranty for a PS2..the sales person gets $10 for each one he sells..but if the system is being returned, you lose the commission..

i dont know about the benefits since im not a full time employee since i have a second job and im a full time student

so if you want to work at a gamestore, the best time to apply is 1 month before the Christmas holiday..

i also forgot..YOU HAVE TO BE OUT OF SCHOOL [HIGH SCHOOL] AND HAVE TO BE OVER THE AGE OF 16-18..depends where you are living

Bandit, Thanks for the explanation. You brought up the 2 year PS2 warranty, how exactly does this work? I mean I purchased the 2 year warranty when I got my PS2 on launch, but the sales clerk didn\'t throughly explain to me what it does. Like if my PS2 were to not work one day because of say... overheated or the disk tray wasn\'t openning, could I take it back and get a brand new unit? And does this apply for the entire two years? These are questions I have wanted to ask for a long time now, but I never seemed to remember them when I\'m at EB. Thanks for the info.

Eaglepower, I\'ll await Bandit\'s reply, but without wishing to sound like a putz, if you paid $20 for this warranty, didn\'t the employee give you something more than a receipt when you purchased the PS2 and its warranty?  I mean, did you actually *get* a warranty (you know, words on a document that spelled out what your warranty entails?)?

Again, Bandit will undoubtedly clear up your question, but I\'m curious what EB offers the customers as far as an *actual, physical* warranty.

Just curious...thanks.
