I like AMD better than Intel anyways...

Erm AMD wouldn\'t be a step backwards.I\'m pretty sure if it\'s true that Sony is just licensing AMD\'s Hyper Transport Technoligy. It would be really cool if AMD was developing the EE.2 along with Sony and Toshiba (if Toshiba will have anything to do with the EE.2) because AMD really know their sh*t.

Maybe, but the article clearly states AMD will be the processor in the PS3.

If it was just a liscense of techologies then yes its a good move, but if AMD goes into the PS3 its a huge step backwards. The EE kicks the **** out of AMD Athlon as a multimedia processor. The EE3 will be quite the beast.

There we\'re similiar reports of 3DFX making the GPU for the PS3 a few months back, but those we\'re obviously false as well.

PS3 news isn\'t bad, its just people who actually think the PS3 is a year away.

as for AMD, I\'m not buying this news till I hear it from the horses mouth.

i find it hard to swallow too,but if it turns out to be true, then so be it,doesn\'t mean that Sony will have pc parts (as ProfessorX wants to point out) in the PS3,for all we know it could be a complete custom processor for it,..? but i highly doubt it,does not mesh with Sony\'s kingdom very well

yup amd rulz and intel drools, I got mixed feelings anout this. At first it seems great!! But on the other hand will sony stop using ps2\'s unique emotion engine architecture?? Will ps3 be like xbox..with pc hardware?

Well one thing is for sure... AMD processors are cheap, so that\'ll lower ps3s price!

God I hope AMD isn\'t involved there processors are ****, I\'d take Intel anyday over that crap, if sony puts a Pentium or Athlon in there console I would be a very sad man... But im confident Sony isn\'t that dumb and idiotic (Like bill gates)

"Hypocracy and it\'s not my problem, it\'s yours." - ProfessorX

I think it\'s a little too early to be proclaiming people hypocryts. Had Intel created a whole new processor for the Xbox, it wouldn\'t have been labeled "A PC lite" like so many people have. AMD is a fine chip maker, and if they decide to take EE R&D and production to the next level then I applaud them. IF they are merely putting a modified version of their PC processors in the PS3.. then I think it\'s a huge step backwards for Sony.

Then again, where does Toshiba come in? They helped develop the EE and have had plans to outsource the technology to all sorts of devices in the next few years, so I can\'t see AMD just picking up all the rights to produce the EE2. I think it\'s more likely that AMD is just producing the PS3 processor and nothing else.. that way Toshiba can produce their own EE\'s for other devices without having to worry about PS3 demand limiting their production.

There is two thing this can be

1.Sony is partnering with AMD the co-develop the EE2/EE3
or
2.Sony is letting AMD manufacture the EE2/EE3 when completed

Well based on this article noting of the above has been said. Because if we go from this article then AMD is making the processor and not co producing anything. And if amd is co producing then they are not really doing anything. I mean we can speculate on many things but based on this article it seems athlon will be in p3? The person who posted this news is trying to make is seem as though p3 inside xbox  made  superior to ps2. Which i find to be very...very untrue. Because the p3 inside of xbox is not it\'s main processor and it only handles minor operation for xbox. This seems like some fanboy rivalry to me.

So what do we know of the beast? Well, to begin with Sony have chosen AMD (yes, those of the Athlon) to provide the processing power behind the machine, and while this may sound slightly inferior to many, considering their rivalry with Microsoft\'s best buddies, Intel, the machine is no slouch.

So amd providing the processing power means they they are making the processor. because to provide processing power you have to be making the processor. I think this is untrue. Because If Amd provides the processor for ps3 than that would make ps3 seem to be copying a microsoft like tatic. I think it is false and too see all you ps2 fans get so happy on amd just shows how bias you are at calling xbox names when ps3 would go right downt the street and get amd. I am just saying based on this article to have and athlon in the p3 would be so stupid. Why would sony abandon the EE.? This just makes no sense to me.

AMD...but I thought the Emotion Engine was co-designed by Toshiba and Sony to challenge the x86 architecture and dethrone the company responsible for that architecture, Intel.

ohh you better run.
The Athlon is soooo much faster than Intel\'s outdated CISC based crap. And it\'s cheaper to.
If Sony were to let AMD to design the EE.2 (along with themselves and Toshiba hopefully),basing it on the original EE they would come up with a monster of a system.

As I said before... JUST CALM DOWN! Nobody knows anything for sure yet. PS3 is still some five years away, who cares what goes inside as long as it\'s helluva fast. I\'m pretty sure Sony wouldn\'t choose something bad for their next (next) gen console. But for all we know PS3 could have a Motorola chip... There\'s no point in speculating THIS early.

And BTW... AMD kicks Intel\'s sorry butt any day.
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAPETIME!

i don\'t wanna start getting exited about the ps3. I wanna see what sony has in store for the ps2. personally i reckon that the ps2 will stay top of the market for a lot longer than 5 years.

They only thing that makes sense to me about this AMD and Sony deal is that Sony is gonna have AMD help them manufacture and possibly do some of the R&D.  Nobody really thinks sony is gonna do away with their EE and GS, that would be stupid.  It makes sense to me that Sony is gaining the help and experience from AMD (the best damn processor makers in da world).
