Pentium computers suck so bad they should stop making chips

My sister has a 900. 128mb ram,30gig, compaq p3 computer and man does it suck. You can only have one or two operation on screen or it will shut down. I went online on the thing  takes about 15minutes for one site to load and if you have more than one site on screen thing the computer freezes and the isp shuts down.  I heard the p4 is even worst. Pentiums suck. I think my p2 was faster than her p3 I never had such problems. I am so glad I got a athlon 1.2 ghz.

I have a celeron chip.. it\'s by intel. I do heaps of crap on screen.. I\'m talking Rendering programs and electronic board design programs which need heaps of math. and it runs fine...  Maybe the CPU is crap. Though i do agree AMD is far better.

I have a 533 Celeron w/ 192 megs of ram, i get all kinds of crap running, I don\'t have any problems.  My next system will be AMD though.
1.  Your sister is possibly computer illiterate.
2.  Compaqs definately suck ass.
3.  Most likely, it\'s the buggier-than-hell Win ME OS that is causing most of the problems.

Windows millenium sucks ass in large portions.

Oh - looking up websites isn\'t too processor intensive.

I run PII 350 128 ram here at the house and a
PIII 800 256ram at the office and I see virtually no difference aside from a little startup/shutdown adv from my P3 but that could be b/c of the 256ram.  

Also ME, I hear is horrible.  I have 98 first edition and never upgraded.  I run 2k Pro at work and I really like it, but I have a better knoweledge of install/un-install and registry of 98 so that\'s what I run at home.

And yes, THUNDERBIRD 1Gigger is next system I build.

I hate Intel with a passion, even though i\'m running a P3 450Mhz w/96 MB Ram...I can\'t wait till I can get a Athlon 1.2Ghz!

Exactly. While, I am not a fond of Intel chips--okay, I admit I detest them (both my computers have AMD chips). I doubt it was the Intel chip causing the problems. Compaq has horrible computers. Personally, you couldn\'t give me one of the damn things.

When something crashes like that, it is easy to point to one thing, but you have to take in account alot of things.

1: Is it the OS? When is the last time you ran ScanDisk? Defragmented? So on and so on.

2: Do you have any conflicts?

3: Are the drivers updated?

4: Do you have the latest update patches for the OS and your software?

5: Are you running a Compaq?

Answer those questions one by one. If you find yourself going "yes" to the 5th question, then get ready to buy a new computer.

Your problem has nothing to do with intel.  I had a 133 and I ran stuff fine.  I had MP3s playing while I was browsing the internet working on photoshop.  So if she has a 900mhz and having probs, then take it back.  I now have a 1.3 ghz and am very happy with it.  

Giving a blanket statement like intel sucks is pretty stupid when obviously "your" intel sucks.  Heck, it may not even be your chip causing the problem.

Well it is not the operating system. It is that damn pc. I will be online and open this site then I will right click and open the forum in a new window. And man the page will take minutes and minutes to load. You can not open more than one site at a time on her p3 or it will freez. And if your downloading small files then sites will not load up. That computer sucks so bad. It is worst than the p2 if you ask me. Seems like small files like wordperfect take minutes to load up. That pc is so slow to be 900mhz and 128ram and 30gig hdd.
  And it does not have that many programs on so nothing is draining away at memory and space on hdd.  I say that p3 sucks and I have read articles on the p4 that is even worst. I will never buy a pc that has pentium in it or compaq on the label.

You know what really makes me laugh...
It\'s how intel try to sell their processors on the reason that they would enhance your internet experience.
Man what a load of bull. what would the difference be on the net using a 400 Mhz machine or 700 Mhz machine
Damn, note to Intel: CABLE Modems and ADSL give you a richer internet experience!

There\'s something totally wrong then! Even if it\'s P3 and Compaq, it should be blazingly fast. At my school they have 733 MHz P3\'s (Compaqs) with 128 mb RAM and Win2k. They are quite fast and excellent, no problems there. So your sisters comp is really, really screwy if it\'s that slow. It\'s not normal.

I totally agree with Samwise on this one.  I\'ll bet your sister has a virus.  I had one, I wish I could remember what it was called, but it had the exact symptoms you are saying.  I would shift click a link to open a new window and the system would pause for about 10-15 seconds, then it would open the window.  Norton found the virus, but couldn\'t clean it.  I had to reformat.

I honestly think your problem has absolutely zero to do with the processor.

And as far as intel enhancing the internet experience, true, DSL and cable does wonders, but the internet is totally different on my Pentium IV compared to my Pentium 133.  Websites pop up instantly.  My 133 would lag tremendously, especially with streaming video.

But even the 133 worked fine with 5+ browsers open at the same time.  Well, after I reformatted it did.  Viruses suck.
