Microsoft has stolen the Matrix
« on: May 01, 2001, 06:08:33 PM »
Basically Microsoft is using it\'s bullying tactics. They are going to use this to take over the video game industry.
They bribed interplay into offering the Matrix for the Xbox with all this extra crap, and holding it from other consoles for atleast 6 months
Here\'s a sample of the document:
"5.3 Exclusivity. Licensee agrees that only Matrix for Xbox, and no other platform version thereof, including without limitation any Playstation 2 version thereof, shall include any online gameplay capability. Licensee further agrees that for a period of six months after the first Commercial Release of Matrix, Licensee shall not release in any Territory any interactive entertainment software product based on or related to Matrix and/or "The Matrix" or "Matrix 2" motion pictures (or further sequels to or derivative works thereof) as for any platform now known or hereafter developed, unless such product is an add-on or sequel to Matrix for the Xbox platform and approved pursuant to the terms of the Publisher Agreement."

This is SOOOOOOO Sketchy. It makes me not want an Xbox

I\'ve argued with you in private, and I\'m too lazy to retype it all here, but I\'ll say this: Sony did it with MK3. Sega did it with DoA2. MS did take it a little further, but it\'s the same thing. Stop your whining. It sucks for the PS2 only (or GC only) ppl, but calling MS a bully for making a smart business decision is retarded.

Sony could of paid to have the Matrix first, obviously Sony didn\'t want to do so.

I can\'t wait to hear all the lame MS is evil paranoia stroies

MS needs exclusives a heluva alot more then Sony. Interplay needed the money desperately. A deal was made and its only a loan not even a purchase

MS still gets to claim $20 a game sold in royalties and Interplay still has to pay back the 5 million

MS took the rights agreement farther than they should have. But thats MS for ya. If they wanted to benefit us gamers (like they say all the time) They would let interplay include online play on all systems.

Well thats one of the stupidest things I\'ve heard

Its about exclusives that sell systems. Its called business.

Looking out for gamers on another system is not in nintendo\'s, Sony\'s or Microsofts business agenda

MS is making a smart business move, just like SOny buying out Verant and Naughty Dog and such

Its a business  Animal accept this and get an Xbox to play Matrix online, or forget about it

I don\'t care who I annoy, I only care who annoys me. And I\'ve fought with maybe a dozen of the 3000+ members here, just to clear up this whole \'I start fights with everyone\' nonsense.

At this point it\'s only a licensing agreement. Even though the movie was a success doesn\'t mean  for certain that the game will follow suit. Sure it\'s guaranteed sales on the name alone, but let\'s not get too excited about a game that at this point doesn\'t exist. Could be a AAA title, could be monkey dung. Heaven forbid that the Matrix 2 goes the way of many over-anticipated sequels, seriously.
It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Yup. 5th Element sucked... the Grinch, 102 Dalmations, etc. Most of em sucked.  I liked Die Hard Trilogy, Alien Trilogy, MIB and Lost World though.....

i don\'t really care about this "Matrix" game already, first it is just a game based on the movie (duh!) and most movie to games made are usually not worth their wait in gold anyways,in other words they suck the majority of the time. maybe it might surprise us,but i highly doubt it in the end. oh,second Interplay is making it,i\'m not that hardcore a follower of their brand of games,it might include some unnecessary quirky weirdness :D third, the hype for this game is becoming as bad as MGS2 (except it has no basis to fall on as whether it will be good or a waste of time),i don\'t remember seeing any pics of it either, anyone??

This is what people are talking about when they say MIcrosoft is giving a better deal to developers.  Even with this deal Interplay pays less royaltys to microsoft than they would with sony under normal conditions.  Microsoft is basicly saying I\'ll give you this to hekp you out if you give me this to help me out.  While it can look sketchy from certain view points, you have to look at it from others views if you don\'t want a biasd view.  But it does suck for us PS2 owners.
