Tired of all this XBOX ish
« on: November 20, 2001, 10:47:41 AM »
What\'s the big need to get an XBox?  Don\'t you know our own values are overtaken by the advertising and corporate world?  The perception that you look cooler if you have the best.  The best this, best that. . who cares!  If you have a PS2, you\'ll get the games and that\'s all that matters.  The people who own both the XboX and PS2 are tangled in the biz, they\'re in a trance.  They basically cannot explain their gratification other than "yeah i\'m having fun with XBox because it\'s playing smoother."  AND??  Does that justify the fact that you\'re now a person better off in this world?  Video games promotes unlinear scattered thinking (while reading gives you logical thought) in our minds, it has the same effect of a TV.  Now I admit I\'m hypnotized myself, but I\'m beginning to realize all this, zooming out of this, to see how vunerable people are to have the best.  Now if you have an excess of money and don\'t care what happens to it, that\'s your business. . .but if you\'re riding that bandwagon to satisfy your frabricated needs while drooling, you can still snap out of it.

  very nice.  I don\'t know what kind of gamers you know flamebrain but I\'m all about the games, not hype or specs.  I bought PS2 for Tekken (big fanatic), and I bought the Xbox because of Halo.

I didn\'t buy a GC (yet anyways) because nothing on it so far interests ME enough to the point where I\'m willing to spend $300 to play the game.

Sad how about half of the die hard gamers yearly earnings eventually go into consoles and video games.

I exaggerated with the earning thing mm.  It also sounded like I was telling people what to do with their money on this topic. But the main point I wanted to stress is that theory of the differences between readers and video gamers. People choose to be one, or both. . .I\'m both. (Or any other necessity to progress through time).  Society and the mass media shapes our thinking, correct? That influence is what makes people alike and it ignites their need to run off and get an XBox.  Don\'t mean to degrade just the die hard gamers, I just wanted to open their minds and imagine they\'re watching video of themselves sitting on a chair tapping butons for 5 hours straight. That\'s the same commitment women make with their daily Soap Opera\'s.

your logic escapes me. By your logic, we would only need Dreamcasts and that is it. After all when PS2 launched, could anything match up to Shenmue? Skies of Arcadia? Grandia II? etc.

But alas, it\'s cool to own a PS2.

XBox will be great, and I own one because I am very excited for Sega\'s and Peter Molyneaux\'s games, not to mention countless other third party games.

/me reads mm\'s post, and goes to count his consoles. 14 consoles, 5 handhelds.
1 free Xbox that I got from Microsoft because of another site I work for. Writing about this stuff does make it much easier on my wallet, that\'s for sure.

I\'m not saying advertising on its own is satisfying the nor it effects each individual. The mass media doesn\'t tell us what to think, it tells us what to think about. It sets the standards, and if we\'re vunerable enough to fetch then we\'ll do it. Some people actually feel the need to get something out of pure jealousy. Whatever it may be to make a human\'s inner self feel better, wether it\'s plastic surgery to look younger or get the latest game because you know millions of others are enjoying it. The theory doesn\'t apply to those who closed their mind from this world, but if you\'re living and working in this global economy, you\'ve been affected by in many minor ways wether you know it or not. One won\'t even try to escape it because it\'s a norm. But am I saying it\'s controlling who you are? No. How you think logically? No. But how you share opinions on the news, newspaper, actors, movies, Dishwashers, PC, hell anything that can be offered to you, yes.

/me counts 21 consoles and 5 handhelds! muhuhahaha. Not to mention a few arcade standups ;)

I own lots of videogames because I can without sacrificing other parts of my income for other activities. I also have saved money from when I was a paperboy when I was 8. I averaged about 2,500 dollars a year and saved alot of it when I was a kid.
