Something I pondered...
« Reply #150 on: February 15, 2002, 04:26:05 AM »
Man, did I miss out on all the fun or what. Darn those Hallmark Holidays. To think I had to suffer with my wife alone last night and miss all this fun. Well, I’ve been reading through all the stuff here that I missed out on and I find that there are some extremely intelligent people here. On the flip side however, there are some that seem not to be so intelligent. I’ve studied Christian theology for the better part of my life. Having gone to a private school all of my life though didn’t cloud my vision for those that I come in contact with in my every day walk. The reason that we as humans are here is far more important to me than how we got here. Don’t get me wrong, I love a debate as well as the next guy. I just think that as this thread has become evidence of, people get so caught up in the argument that they forget to remember that we are all brothers and sisters. I know that saying that could be an argument in itself so let me enlighten you. If you believe in “creation” then you know we all are descendants of Adam (which in the Hebrew language means earth or dirt), that would mean that we are all related through blood. If you believe that we evolved, then you know that we all came from a pile of goo or a large explosion of sorts (sorry for the term “goo”, I’m not familiar with the technical terms). We then would also be related through blood. This argument is cool and all, but hey as for me a “Christian”, I have decided to show as much love to my fellow brothers and sisters in the name of Jesus Christ. Don’t think for a minute that I’m supposed to be a perfect person either. I’m not! In fact, that could be stated as another reason why I go to church.

And before you jump to the \'Cant see God so how is he real thing\' God is real, he is spiritual ie, he is in another realm, a spiritual realm.

This is too deep for me anyways.

You do realize that the largest religion in the world is Muslim right?

And as far as worshipping a statue and how stupid it is, what\'s that 4" gold cross you have with the 20" link chain around your neck?

That plus the 50 posts about GT3 before it came out.  Then he gets it early and says it\'s no big deal. Tehn when everyone else gets it he talks bad about it and says the game has too many jaggies and crap.  I don\'t remember specifics, but I remember how annyoing it was.  Maybe you should throw up a Mariah Carey thread and devert some religous tension to her thread.

Mankind is weak, so many people need something/someone to believe in. Why do you think there are so many different religions?

BTW, why is Christianity the only \'right\' religion? What about buddists etc? Are they wrong? I asked a teacher about that some 10 years ago. She could only give a lame*** answer - so nothing\'s changed there.

And no one will change their opinion when they have already been brainwa... ops, I mean, have formed their opinion. But it doesn\'t matter to me - I have accepted it and people can believe what they want.

Oh, and Racer said something earlier about "what if you died and found out there is a god" - well, good thing you\'re covered then.

What if you died and found out there was ...... nothing. Muahaha, all those church hours for nothing. ;)

I could easily say "why do you take every post so lax?"

Anyways, about evolution, there is recorded evidence of tiny, tiny changes made in the last 100 years in most species, give yourself a million years, and that\'s plenty of change.  Who\'s to say that God didn\'t create us in his image, and then through sin, we changed from that image, to adapt to the environment outside of the garden of Eden?  And who\'s to say that a day during creation was 24 hours?

Now thats a statment I was waiting to hear. Some say that a day to God can be thousands of years to us....I wonder. Well it\'s imposible to prove that theory so I won\'t even go there.:D

Yeah, I\'ve heard that before.  That the 7 days aren\'t really seven days, but many many years.

So the way I figure it, we are either suppose to be in church not only Sunday, but for many years at a time, or we are not suppose to go to church for many years to come.

PS: I got Logan out of the bathroom.  Everything is OK.

My answer to the Question; "should I go to church" is simple. I found a church that I love to attend. Lots of friends, nobody that shoves a bible down my throat and they helped me get involved in some cool outreach programs to help out those less fortunate in the inner city projects. Its great when you can make a difference as one person, but it\'s even better when you make a huge difference with a large group of people.:)

Now that is what it\'s all about.  I went to a church one time for Christmas service and the preacher, knowing he had the largest crowd of the year, spent 80% of the sermon talking about some new cathedral they were building and how they needed money.

I immediately took my ten spot and placed it back in my pocket.
