FFXI has sold almost 100 000 sold ex (wont know for sure untill Square releases a press release though), pretty damn good for a MMORPG. (IN ONE COUNTRY..)

Bah, I didn’t make it the first try so he pushed me off and I didn’t bother loading either.
What was the prize? A High Potion? ;)

Why should people pay for mmogs?  Because there are quality servers running the game.

MS is providing servers.  I don\'t see the difference.

You can play for free using xboxconnect or gamespy tunnel which is essencially the same thing that Sony is offering.

bah, not true

define "quality servers"

they constantly update content (new quests, etc), thats why they charge, no other reason

does EA charge for thier pc online games? Id? Blizzard?

think of the most popular online games that are completely free for PC and tell me again why i should pay M$  fee to play online?

unreal tournament - free
half life counter strike - free
diablo 1 and 2 - free
quake 1 , 2, and 3 - free

seeing a pattern here?

m$ is charging for xbox live for one reason , and one reason only
to recoup money from piss poor (© ooseven 2002) xbox sales

Yes, I don\'t see a pattern.

unreal tournament uses public/user servers
half life counter strike uses public/user servers
quake 1 , 2, and 3 uses public/user servers
diablo 1 uses public/user servers

diablo 2 - free

Blizard has already said D3 will not be free.  Like I said, the economic model is changing.

It\'s not because of new content, it\'s because of the server costs--that point has been well documented.  Besides, XBL is advertised to have free downloadable content and there are servers.  So both arguments for a chargable service are covered.

Don\'t you see Watchdog, you can\'t win! Logic, proof, and well-thought out arguments are easily killed around here with the ignorance and asinine assumptions.

This is why I stopped arguing on this subject. Everytime I would harp on or bring up a good point, idiocy prevails.

no altered, you simply ran out of ammo
i think you should change yer user title to "pot calling the kettle black".  it fits you perfectly

D3 is moving to a pay system cause of the way they want to take the gameplay.  thier moving towards a mmorpg type level system where they can control EVERYTHING to prevent cheating.  thats why they are charging.

do you think counter strike would be the number one played online game in the world if people had to pay for it?

would UT be played if there was a charge?

m$\'s business model is moving towards paying for everything
windows 98 plus, windows XP plus, etc..
sense them charing for content that should be free, yes?

It\'s funny you mention that about D3, you must work at Blizzard because as of now absolutely no information has been released concerning the thrid installment.  There has been no mention about it going MMOG.  I would think World of Warcraft would fill that void, seeing as it is essencially Diablo.  But that\'s just me.

There was however, an interview with Blizzard and they said the costs of maintaining the D2 servers had become enormous and that in all likelihood they would not offer a free service in the future.

They left it at that even when asked to elaborate.

Have you tried to play CS, Q or UT lately?  I dare you to go into a public game.  You cannot walk two feet without running into an aimbot, a map hack or game cheat.  You call this fun?  Same thing with Diablo, everyone has duped equipment and radar hacks.  This too is not fun.

If you think it is, be my guest.  Fire up a game.  I\'d much prefer to pay for security and speed.

Thats funny, considering you view Diablo as the same as Warcraft..

mm, I tried, you tried, I made that point that Altered Beast was a hypocrite days ago, but they just turned hostile.  I figure, why bother anymore, it turns to name calling and hostility.  Please ignore me if you just going to insult me.

No, Billy, it\'s just you Dumbass.  I respect mm.

Chrono, as usual, is posting unintelligible stuff.  I can read it, it\'s english, but have no idea what point he is trying to make.

Again how do you know what state it\'s taking?  D2 was essencially a MMOG (without persistence) and they didn\'t charge.  I\'m not what you are actually saying.  I\'ll repeat, they are charging because of escalating server costs.  That\'s all the news about D3 released at the moment.

Lol, no problem, eh?  Whatever.

And like I said, use xboxconnect or gamespytunnel, it\'s free.  I choose to use the superior service though.

Talk about skill?  Anytime you want to fire UT, let me know and I\'ll see you on Deck16.  :)
