Is the Gamecube\'s non-PC type hardware holding it back?
« on: August 02, 2002, 12:22:46 PM »
I mean, the Gamecube is a year and a half newer than the PS2, but it\'s games are hardly better looking. Sure, the textures and output is a lot cleaner, but there are alot of things that the PS2 can still touch the GC in. Maybe GC should have gone the standardized PC way, so that it could compete with XBox, which is far and away more powerful in nearly every aspect?
-------------------

I see you bitching about how XBoxes PC architecture is holding it back, yet it is MUCH more powerful than the other two systems, as is shown by EA\'s assessment. EA also goes on to say how weak GC truly is and goes as far as saying if it wasn\'t for their kids, they wouldn\'t develop on GC at all :p XBox\'s PC arch. makes it easier for developers to get what they want out of a game, especially effects not possible on the other two systems, and concentrate on other things, like experience. Right now some developers are creating particularly empty games. But this happened with PSX, Dreamcast, even PS2. XBox is just getting it\'s \'shine with no substance\' right now. You can already point out the next classics though, Panzer Orta, Ninja Gaiden, Steel Batallion, and Project Ego all look amazing, yet also sound like they will be amazing gaming experiences also.

The only thing that is holding XBox back is it\'s lack of HUGE success al la PS2. When developers make games especially for XBox, games turn out truly beautiful. DOA3, GUNVALKYRIE, and Halo could not be done on any other system in the quality they are right now, I will tell you that.

From what I\'ve seen, DOA3 could very likely be done on GCN at the same quality. Bloody Roar looks similar to it.

me concern is that these games, that we expect so much (Panzer Orta, Ninja Gaiden, Steel Batallion, and Project Ego )  will have the enclave desease (you know, more puff - less cream)

thats is whats holding the xbox back, dissapointment after dissapointment in these niche games

where-as nintendo has franchises coming out its ass that have yet to be released

Visually Enclave is extroidinary.  Beyond that, I have never died so many times in a game and had to do the same damn long level over again so many times.  It\'s called poor gameplay, X-Box has plenty of it.

That\'s not gameplay if you have to re-start a level over again.  It\'s called work on skills.     Nah,  I can\'t believe I have to pick you as the chosen one.  j/k

So hows the solid gameplay?   The truth.

Enclave is extrodinary graphically.  Everything from the menus to the textures are super high quality.  I have it rented and running around with the Huntress and popping orcs with her bow is awesome.

The problem is the bad save system.  If it weren\'t for that, it\'d be a solid tie over game.  Nothing extraordinary, but fun for a bit.  The gameplay is there.

Now the reviews I read said there are some serious bouts of slow down.  I\'m only on mission 3 and haven\'t seen any, but I\'m sure it\'s coming.  That could put a damper on my impressions.

But so far, I haven\'t been that frustrated by the save system (it\'s pretty easy at the begining).

I\'m sure I will though, already there seems to be inescapable damage events (boulders falling from the edge of a building etc.)  That kind of thing pisses me off, but so far it doesn\'t damage you too much.

How silly, the Xbox does not have a PC architecture. Its got PC parts, but it does not have a PC architecture. LETS MAKE THAT CLEAR RIGHT NOW.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Bloody Roar cubed doesn\'t touch doa3 graphics.  GC couldn\'t reproduce that game either the producer even said ps2 or gamecube couldn\'t come close.:)

Wow, you sure proved me wrong! I guess I\'ll just have to go back to the drawing board and think up something new to debate! Maybe I should debate that the producer of DOA3 is a jackass! Good idea? Yes!
