DC, Ps2, PSX, GBA, N64, Neo Geo, T16, Genesis, Snes

I love \'em all!

The PS2 has been my favorite console of all. Bar none!
« Reply #16 on: October 12, 2002, 01:12:42 PM »
Although the PC is my favored  gaming platform as consoles go nothing has owned my like my PS2. Before that it was the ill fated Saturn which is still the console I have loved the most(I was a big time Saturn fanboy).

I wanted the PS2 from the moment I heard about it problably because of my hate for the PSX and Sony and the fact they claimed it was going to be better than the PC. Which by the way had filled all my gaming needs(PC) until the PS2 came out.

I had to have this super machine mainly so I could compare it to the DC and put down the PSX fanboys saying " see its not all that". However somewhere along the line I fell in love with it. I was the only one in my Sony hating group who did. Everyone loved the DC and blamed Sony for its woes.

Other than football online the DC never filled me with any real gaming satisfaction. Otherwise between the PC and the PS2 I have a real gaming one two punch.

I guess in an overview the real reason I love the PS2 is because of its games and that has a lot to do with Sony. But in the end whichever controller I have in my hand the most that is the system that wins.

A good console is a good console and nothing can change that. Yes I did hate Sony and yes I had a PSX because it had the best games just like the Ps2 has now.

Hate or no hate I was In line to get a PS2 because I love gaming and dont want to miss out no matter what my feelings for a company is, thats not the machines fault.

Before the release of the PS2 I was an oh by the way Sega fan and could not stand the ripping PSX fanboys were giving it in anticipation of the launch of the PS2,Saying that the PS2 was going to be all that.

I wanted to have the prove on hand.(there are a couple of people who bought X-Boxs here who rip it all the time.) Put me in that group at that time.

I guess my hate for Sony stems from the demise of the Saturn which I fully blamed Sonys greed in buying off the rights to TR2.
I believe contributed to the decline of the Saturn.

Anyway to answer you question I bought the PS2 first to play some great games because I also bought into the hype second to speak the truth about its capabilities and games where I work without bias.

The bottom line here my friend is Now I love the dadgum machine and that is that.

I agree with u.

I just wanted to see if that was ur primal reason u wanted to buy the console.

Good to hear you are open minded about consoles.

btw:Sega\'s many mistakes also playied a great role to the Saturn\'s demise.

SNES and the PSX are my two favourite systems. But PS2 aint far behind.

Ive got so much out of it sofar, and the games keep on coming.
After Vice City, TS2, R&C ect. have been released it will prolly be my favourite system of all time :)

(just preordered Vice City btw)

Yeah, well there were alot of people who believed in SEGA and the Dreamcast(me being one of them). The games were great for the time, it was SEGA\'S come back from the Saturn. I think it was a great system, it had alot of good games.

But I personally don\'t think of it as the greatest system ever, because:
1. The controller wasn\'t to great
2. Alot of the game were mediocore ( I know every system has them)
and 3. It died off to quick

As for Living-In-Clip\'s response "Hell no! Not even close. "

Come on! PS2 not close? PS2 has alot of great games! I would list them but I\'m too lazy to list all of those games.

My favorite system right now is in fact the Playstation 2.

Not pick the DC? How can you not with games like Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue, Shenmue 2, Cannon Spike, Street Fighter: Third Strike, Phantasy Star Online, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Gunbird 2, House of the Dead 2, Typing of the Dead, NFL2K and the very fact that so many great games came out in such a short period is only a testament of how great the DC was actually.

A lot of the game was medicore? How can you say this? Sony has less quality control than Sega ever did. Britney\'s Dance Beat? The list can go on and on. It only died off quick because of a certain \'hype machine\'...*cough*

As for my "hell no" response, I stand by it. I only recently started playing my PS2, which I\'ve had since launch, due to the lack of interesting titles, in my opinion. Infact, I honestly probably rate the NGC over the PS2. I probably own near 30 PS2 games and out of those, I would only make four of them must own, which is a sad , sad thing.

I said it has alot of mediocore games just like every other system, it\'s not the perfect system like people makes it out to be.

As for all those games you mentioned, PS2 has all those games beat or equaled.

Sly = Sonic: better in some ways, not as good in others
SC2 > SC: I played SC2 in the arcade, it\'s better than SC imo
MVC 2: PS2 is getting the game with extras
FFX >= SoA Both have there moments
If freedom is what you want, GTA3 beats Shenmue, MGS2 beats the cinematics in Shenmue also
I\'ve never played Canon spike :shy:
Street Fighter is Street Fighter and PS2 has that
PS2 has Code Veronica with extras
Time Crisis = Houses of the Dead
Madden > NFL2K

I\'m not here to put the Dreamcast down because like I said it was good but PS2 is no loser when it comes to good games:

GT3, MGS2, SH2, FFX, J&D, TM:B, NFS:HP2, Burnout 2, Tekken, Ico, Mark of Kri, Sly Cooper, DMC,, MoH:FL, GTA3, Onimusha 2, Tony Hawk 3  Kingdom Hearts any more

I think the very fact that PS2 in still alive with more powerful systems out is only the tesament of how great PS2 games are.

  There\'s barely any good games or games even

That is sad. I for one enjoy just about all my PS2 games, I have around 20-30 games also

BTW Britney\'s Dance beat was great! :D

THe N64, IMO it really got video games to reach throughout a wider audience. I never owned a PSX(besides ps2) and I didnt think much of it. It had so many kick ass games, Perfect Dark, SSB, Zelda1,2....... the list goes on and on

Granted, I\'ve only played the demo.. but SlyCooper is absolutely no competition for Sonic. It\'s a fun game and all.. but out & out Sonic was just way more fun. My only real complaints about SA & SA2 is the bad camera angles (a problem for most games.. even Super Mario Sunshine).. and the fact that support characters had their own plot paths. Would have been much better if all the characters were to take on the same levels and use their own special skills to find secrets and areas unavailable to other character types. (Much like the original Sonic games)

GTA3 & MGS2 aren\'t anywhere NEAR the same type of game Shenmue is. How in god\'s name can you even compair those two? HeadHunter to MGS2.. yeah I can see that.. but not Shenmue. Good god, have you even played that game?

Yeah, and worse textures which they made up for with added jaggies. :p I\'ve played both versions.. and while the difference in graphics isn\'t TOOO great.. it\'s still very noticable. Those "extras" are minimal and aren\'t anything to brag about either.

Anyhow.. my favorite system is most definately my PC. The ability to emulate older console systems, play old PC games, and superior graphics (in many cases) make it the premier system for gaming overall. Not to mention that on the whole, PC games are far more sophisticated and complex than console games.

A second runner up would probably be my Dreamcast followed closely by my PSX and Genesis.
