Possible Capcom merge with Sega
« on: December 06, 2002, 10:42:53 PM »
Take it for what it\'s worth, but IGN is reporting a possible merge between Sega and everyones favorite developer Capcom.

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/379/379557p1.html

I enjoy Sega games, but as my screen name denotes there is only one king. A merge with a company that has been lackluster the past few months has me extremly worried. What is everyone\'s thoughts on this?

Fact or Fiction?  Ign was right about rare if I remember correctly.

That\'s quite odd.

I remember Ashford, just a few days ago brought up that he would love to see this, elsewhere.

And I must say, the idea of the two greatest developers of all-time working togeher would be pretty decent news IMO.

But I certainly don\'t see it happening any time in the future.

Something is going to happen for sure, but what i dunno. Rumors run throughout the net about some merges in Japan. It may be a fake but many webs speak about that deal and other like Nintendo buys Sega and Capcom, M$ buys capcom, or a possible merge between Capcom, Sega, Konami and Namco (do you imagine that company working for a system?).

There are rumors, and when there are is because something could happen.

Could be good.. Lets hope Capcoms 1337ness can rub off on SEGA, cuz sofar IMO they are VERY overrated.

Sega are incredibly over rated. They have produced an AAA since the days of the Dreamcast, which was before they became software only. Sega Rally 2 was the last AAA game they\'ve made.

Shenmue 2 stinks, so does Sega GT 2002, nothing is worth owning. Hopefully Capcom can pull them into line.

You are forgetting about Virtua Fighter 4.

Shenmue 2 is one of the greatest games ever made.

And let\'s not forget Super Monkey Ball 1/2.

And there are lots of other solid games (such as Jet Set Radio Future etc.) that just may not be your taste.  Or that are your taste, but you haven\'t given them a go.

Sega are arguably the best developers ever.  The fact that they are in a slump is no reason to call them "overrated".

Bob, I regard Sega as being a has been. Its not a case of once the greatest always the greatest, they, IMO, haven\'t proven themselves for awhile, considering the only thing they have to do these days is dev games and not dev hardware.

Either that or they have just ran out of ideas.

Kurt, there also were rumors about Sega making only games, M$ buying rare, or a deal between Enix and Square...

What are you talking about Racer?  How many Sega games have you played since the MegaDrive?  Virtua Fighter 4 is the best fighting game ever made, Shenmue 2 is one of the most brilliant games ever made, period.  Not to mention JSRF, Super Monkey Ball, Rez, Shinobi, PSO, soon to be Panzer Dragoon.

And this is all as they are transitioning from 1st party to 3rd.  They\'ve never done this before, and they are trying to pump games out as fast as possible to make back some money (hence all the ports and rehashes).  Wait \'til next year, I can guarantee you they are working on some more masterpieces.

Geeze, don\'t be homophobic.  How can it be "gay" to say something stinks?

"OMFG! Your gay! You said shemnue 2 stinks! OMFG!"

Do you realize how stupid that sounds?

Anyway, after the Square Enix merge, I wouldn\'t count anything out.

IMO, Sega merging with a company like Capcom would be the best decision they have made in a long time.

July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
