They were in protective suits for a while. And possibly alive during the break up. But the wind probably tore them apart and slowed down as it decended as the wind buffeted the body parts around. The metal pieces, though, kept its heat.

I agree with LIC.. I\'d take it too regardless. I still have a piece of the Berlin Wall tucked away somewhere upstairs in my spare room. If I could get my hands on some of the rubble left over from 9/11.. I\'d probably snatch it up in a heartbeat. I hate the fact that some people are actually SELLING and making money off of tragedies.. since everyone who want\'s a rememberance of a day that changed their lives/perceptions should be able to get it for free.. there\'s just not enough to go around to do that.

terminal velocity is a funny thing. you\'ll accelerate up to a certain point, or decelerate down to that point usually (if unpropelled by another force)

up there skirting the atmosphere it might have been going mach 18 with the rest of the shuttle, but as it approached the ground it probably wasn\'t going much more than a couple hundred miles an hour. also that might have been moved (in the pic) from where it originally landed.

And an empty helmet, to be more specific. I believe there are several spare helmets in the Shuttle just in case.

Now, if there was someone\'s face staring back from that smoldering helmet, then yeah, I\'d be a bit creeped out.

yaaa Im so sensitive.... They did the same thing 9-11 and worse over and over and over let me tell you if they could have had pics of the nauts burning to death they would have showed it.. its as bad as all this is it was good for NASA cause everyone will be interrested in it again for a couple of years. And dont tell me what I saw thanks Im 30 years old and a nurse I have seen a couple of legs in the past maybe when they replayed it the leg was in a body bag but while I was watching it the showed the damn leg.

I didn\'t see the footage of the leg. However, I knew from the body bag that it had to be, considering the length and width of the shape of the body bag, it looked like a leg was inside.

here is an update:

the temperaure of the area around the hydraulics in the left wing were 30-40 degrees F higher than normal going over California and then over west texas they lost all readings on the left wing and the shuttle tried to fix the drag problem (it is in Auto-pilot on descent) and couldnt and the rest is history. I guess there were abort alarms and they ignored them on takeoff.......

I don\'t know if I\'m late, but a TV onboard camera captured this image on the left wing 4 days before the accident.

I see the nose cone has now been found. Also some guy has come forward in San Francisco who apparently has some new photo\'s of the shuttle burning up on re-entry, although he has yet to make them public.
