TFT Vs CRT

I\'m getting a new monitor and am considering getting a 15" TFT. This is mainly due to saving space as I\'m off to Uni. Is the screen size the same as a 17"? I\'m sure I read somewhere it was, what do you guys think?

I have a 17" TFT on my new computer and a 17"CRT on my old one, the TFT does seem to have a much bigger picture and sharper too. When I use the CRT monitor now it looks like crap imo.

17" crt is only like 1/2" bigger than a 15" TFT.

THere are more and more LCD screens in the stores.  One day these big ass CRTs are going to be a thing of the past.

I\'ve been gaming and using a 15" LCD for a while now and I love it.  The only thing I don\'t like is the short range blacks and the ghosting effect that is apparent only after playing again on a CRT.  You won\'t be disappointed with the sharpness and clarity LCD.

Hey thinking about it, wanna grab mine?  It\'s a Viewsonic VA520 bought at Office Depot, still has ZERO dead or stuck pixels, just as good as new.  Best Buy and CompUSA have it for display if you wanna test it out first.  VS is known for big, bright and colorful lcd panels.  I\'m just looking to get a 17" since I got a new job.

i recommend getting a good crt monitor, something like a 21" dell p1110 (with the trinitron tubes). dunno about the U.S but around here they cost less than a 17" LCD monitor.

I hate dead pixels. Make sure your monitor hasn\'t any.

Trinitron ownz all. LCD\'s will shine half as bright after a few years while CRT continue to be as good as day one (generally speaking).

Lol!  You got that mixed up dood.  I have to turn up the brightness and contrast on my 4yr old Samsung to 100% to get a decent image.  An LCD stays just as bright as it does on day one.  This is the difference between analog and digital displays.

Would you rather buy a used CRT or a used LCD?  Screensavers were made for the safety and longevity of CRTs, LCDs don\'t even need them.

I heard that 15" TFT monitors are about to dissapear because companies prefer to sell 17" ones due to its production price is practically the same.
