Did they exaggerate it or did this really happen? If so, me and my buddies are going on a field trip :)

How do those two define a genre? Other than the fact they have "Criterion" on it. Come on!

Original? Good?
What are you talking about?!?!?

I\'m just lost on how you trash ninety percent of movie\'s, complaining that they are too mainstream - then you mention three HIGHLY mainstream movie\'s and how great , "original" and genre defining they are, when I would have to say they are none of the above.

As for Alien - plan on goin\' to see it. If I can, as the bastards did cut the screens down to 350 nation wide.

"The Rock" and "Armageddon" were two of the most replusive, excruciating, soul sucking works of bankrupt commercialism that have been released by Hollywood in the last 20 years.  It\'s amazing that "Deep Impact" was released around the same time as "Armageddon," and was 50x better, but everyone seems to remember only Armageddon.

I will not miss the rerelease of Alien and neither should anyone else here.  It was a defining moment of my youth.  I was not allowed to see R rated movies in 1979, but my friend\'s father took us without my parents\' permission.  It scared the crap out of me for months.

The rerelease of Alien was originally going to be widespread and it\'s been hyped considreably, but now apparently they cut the screening size down to 350 and that limits a lot of people out, including myself, most likely.  However, there is the new Alien box set, with the directors cut\'s of all four movie\'s comin\' out. It\'s what? A nine DVD set? Yummy...

And as for the TCM debate.....
The first review is up, per Bloody-Disgusting.

And thank you Cored . I have to agree that both movie\'s was soul sucking commercaliisim and some of the worst commercialist movie\'s made in recent time , however they do have \'Criterion\' on the DVD label..

Never got to see either of them on the big screen.  I seriously hope they re-release Aliens (as it\'s my all-time favorite movie).

Disappointing to hear that they downgraded the hype.  I always thought that both of those movies (particularly the second - despite the fact that it\'s been shown on TV over 3000 times) would still do quite well commercially if re-released today.  On reputation alone.
