Adan, you are mixing apples and oranges when you compare the colonial era (appx. 1600-1800 AD) to what has and is happening in Iraq.  

The Spanish you speak is the pure form Adan, not the bastardized form that they speak in Mexico.

Mixing apples and oranges? In 1600, europeans (Spanish, Portuguese and Italians mainly) went to America (South and North) and did the following:

- Invade the land without any logical reason
- Killed the people they wanted
- Picked up the gold
- Established a domain
- Came back home

Now in Irak, USA does the following:

- Invade the land without any logical reason
- Kills the people they want
- Picks up the black gold
- Establishes a domain
- Comes back home

I can\'t see many differences. Spaniards remained there many years, but we don\'t know how many Americans will stay there because oil is a sweet reward.

Well, it\'s true that "my spanish" is not the same than latinoamérica one () South America spanish is different to ours in the same way USA\'s english is quite different from England\'s one. In this case you will be the "bastarized speakers" and english the pure speakers. That\'s not the point. Language evolves because it\'s a natural skill. In the same way people from Japan is different to Frenchs physically speaking, languages that are separated evolves in different ways.

Just notice that even in your country you can distinguish different accents. And that\'s inside a country, imagine the differences in between a language separated by an ocean and 7000 kilometres.

As far as Iraq goes - what American would want to stay in Iraq rather than be back home?  Don\'t try and turn this thread into the US colonizing Iraq because you are way off topic and furthermore you are just plain wrong.

Gosh, I almost forgot just how idiotic sirmystiq was when he first came here.  He cleaned up his writing quite a bit.  Now if we can just get Kopking to use a shit key and a period once and a while.

I refered to for example Video\'s replies and comments about the war. It\'s cool in TV... but not there.

Fair enough - there is a whole thread on Saddams capture over in current events if you want to continue there.

The bottom line is that English is the established language for the US and it should be codified as such. Don\'t argue, it\'s the damned truth. On that note, I think being multilingual is fantastic.

I just think that if you\'re going to be in the US for a long amount of time.. a year or more.. you\'d best pony up and learn English as a second language before this place turns into the Tower of Babel. On a similar note, we\'ve got to stop illegal immigration before it gets any worse and re-establish Ellis Island. This can\'t go on much longer.

Anyways, I never said that people shouln\'t learn English. My point is that even though there are alot of people who think this way, "you\'re in America LEARN ENGLISH!!" they are still the minoroty when you ask the general public. Will many people agree on it? Yes. But what matters is what is going on outside their little world, the US is changing...shouln\'t it\'s citizens?
