The villains had proper motivation -- one was a Nazi lunatic obsessed with unnecessary surgery, another was a Russian sorceror bent on bringing Hell to Earth to bring the apocolypse and rebuild the world in his own image, and the other was his nazi wife. Hell Boy was brought to Earth through the portal that was created in the beginning of the movie and he would be the bringer of the apocolypse, but since he was taken care of by a very compassionate scientist, Hellboy grew up surrounded by things of good rather then evil and decided to serve on on the side of good.
Now, with the Russian sorceror reborn, he wishes to use an old near-indestructible enemy of the world to bring Hellboy and his paranormal research team to its knees and bring about the apocolypse he once envisioned by putting in danger the one weakness Hellboy has.
How was that too complicated? How was there no plot? Maybe you just have ADD. You don\'t have to be a fan of the comic to appreciate the film at all as a lot of critics have never even heard of Hellboy the comic before this movie came out and still it is recieving very positive reviews.
