my thoughts:

To me gameplay is way more important than graphics, and madden has proved to be the better of the two. Now that they hopefully fixed the defense since they focused on it this year. In the article their tooting ESPN\'s horn for a "QB evasive" with the qb ducking a tackle by a lineman. Madden\'s already done that.

second thing they toot their horn about is "The first is Maximum Tackle. This allows defenders to choose whether to go for a more standard arm-wrap tackle or to try and knock the flop off the ball carrier. "...Madden added the same thing this year..just called Big Hit Stick. I guess ESPN\'s name sounds better.

Custom music? who cares.

I havent heard too much about madden, but i know they did fix the graphics, but iv never had a problem with them.

Only appealing thing i find is trading online which can have a huge downside. If a guy in a league does a big trade, then has to leave the league, the next guy could be unpleased with the trade and screw things up. Or get a douche to make 2 accounts in a league and trade until one of the teams has a lot of good players. Just speculation that these problems will happen. But yea..madden 2005\'s focus on defense is why im getting this game. Every football game online gets boring after a while because people find flukes that work every time. I bet people will find it in madden 2005 as well since people are stupid; but the big difference is is that u can audible your defense so if the guy runs the same play over and over..hes screwed.  Just my 2 cents

i respect what you stated viper, but it\'s not just about the graphics..espn imo has better gameplay..if you put madden & espn side by side & watch them both play..espn plays more like a real game...also the part with the qb ducking espn already does that..it\'s just now you can control it...i don\'t play online..so i don\'t care about that..custom music?..nope espn delivers on gameplay...and the commentary & visuals are better than madden. like i said before it\'s not about the graphics espn has excellent gameplay as well...

i\'ve played madden since the genesis & i gave up on it in 03...same rehashes year after year..espn made real improvements in 04..

i agree i feel the gameplay in espn is far better. I feel like I have way more control of the game in espn. I love playing defense in espn. It seems way more real. I hate the tackling in madden. In espn the tackling looks real.

I just can\'t see how anyone who has played both can say that Madden was that much better than ESPN.

Madden was a great game but ESPN felt so much more polished. Maybe its just me.

ESPN feels more like an arcade game while madden feels more like a sim.  It\'s just a matter of taste.  It\'s like compariong MS Flight Simulator to Ace Combat -- both have their very high points, but who loves what depends on what you really want out of the game.  For that specific reason, that\'s why I love ESPN.  I always felt ESPN was always far more fun and enjoyable a game then Madden from beginning to end.  Having the ESPN logo slapped on it now just means their presentation is just that much better.  I can\'t complain, but the biggest point I\'ve heard about is the entire ESPN lineup being released at 19.99 budget price... I will buy the ESPN NFL and NHL games at launch for that price.  It\'s the perfect way to tear into Madden\'s stranglehold.

Have you played ESPN NFL 2004?  And, 2005 is suppose to implement momentum a lot better.  Changes things around a bit huh  


I will agree with you though, like in NFL2k3 when the players could charge up and dive a mile for a tackle.  Kind of gay.  But those guys have their acts together and are really putting together something good.

I\'ve played ESPN 2004 and honestly I hated it, the controls and game play are just unrealistic and how you speed burst is annoying. Plus IMO the cameras suck in the game especially when passing.

I can\'t believe you called espn unrealistic that shows just how much ppl who play john madden now nothing about the game.

something madden gives me that just gives me so much more control and flexability at the line of scrimmage.  Does ESPN let you do that?  (maybe it does, I don\'t know much about the sega game)

Oh, and the custom audio thing is only for the xbox and pc.  You need a hard drive to store the songs on and I don\'t think they are supporting the ps2 hard drive (since hardly anyone has it)

Its common knowledge that Madden has always been more of a simulation style game, and ESPN hasn\'t.

I want something as realistic to football I see on TV every Sunday, and that is Madden.

oh please b4 real. What makes madden real because you can set the parking, hot dog prices, merchandise pricing.

When it comes to defense and offense I would rather play espn.  They just put it all together better than madden.

And until madden imporve the running game I won\'t touch it.
