Unicron,

don\'t forget another  big thing about ps2, its backward compatible with psOne games.

My guess about the PS3,

it will be backward with ps2 and psxOne with better graphic and speed increase.

Because most ps2 games run at 640 x 480, with ps3 mouthful memories, you can display the resolution in High Def, say 1280 x 960 (or 1280 x 1024), 1600 x 1200, and even widescreen 1280 x 720 and 1920 x 1080p.  its also can help reduce load times too.

The same can be said about PSOne, with 3-D games running at such a low resolution (about 320 x 240) will be benefit when display in much higher resolution like a computer.  I see how much sharper and cleaner when FFVII, pc version was display in high resolution on computer monitors compare to PSOne.

Remember back in early 1990s, both Sega and Nintendo have their moments.  Both were winners.

You guys think that could be possible with XBOX-2 and PS3?

I like competition because with competition, we see price drops on consoles as they try to compete each other.  With competition, we have improvement and stuff.

Because of this, I think I may buy both XBOX2 and PS3.  Depends though.  Since I haven\'t own any XBOX yet, but I was amaze at its graphic performance compare to GameCube whose released at about the same time.

Oh, screw PSP and DS, its just me.  I won\'t be carrying and playing portable anytime soon.

I agree, it\'s much better to be one of Sony\'s mindless sheep, as opposed to Microsofts..

Oh and for the record - out of all these posts, only two people actually had a clue....

The rest is useless dribble.

Consumers that will wait for PS3 becuase of better expecations will be dissapointed and purchase an XBOX2 instead which will have the games, support and similar graphics.

There is no doubt in my mind that PS3 will have a loyal following from the two previous consoles.  It has some strong franchises and has the most third party support.  This isn\'t going to change much and PS3 will be a success.

What I\'m suggesting is that Xbox is aiming for the same market and it\'s obvious that MS has gained some interest from consumers and developers.  Xbox2 will probably be out first and if all goes well with the launch then they MIGHT be able to persuade some people to switch over instead of waiting for the PS3.

As I said earlier, it depends on the games.  If Xbox 2 has a strong line-up with a drop dead gorgeous price then why wait?

My point: PS3 sales might be up for grabs.  It depends how MS handles the time they have before PS3.

PS2 managed to beat DC because of people\'s expecations and lets face it.TTT was better looking than any other fighting game on the DC and RRV was looking better than every racing game on the DC except MSR.

Yes it did, Sony did everything right with PS and gained a huge user base.  People don\'t just forget where they can find the games.

About TTT, depends who you ask.  IMO, Soul Cally was more aesthetically pleasing.

Also another aspect was the DVD playback as mentioned earlier.  So what will make PS3 attractive enough to keep paople\'s attention away from XBOX2 this time

It will come down to the most attractive console. (Price, graphics, games, image)

Well  the Saturn and Nintendo have had hardcore followers for years and had released 3 consoles in a row.People\'s minds change if things arent done right.

I agree with all you said though.it concerns me the fact that there is a huge lag between PS3\'s release and XBOX3\'s release.Developers show increased interest  especially after XNA.MS is already gaining trust from developers. And developers will want to sell products since revenues are needed.Consumers might wait for PS3.Developers cant wait even if they want to.So that could mean an increasing support till PS3 is released.

How many and what games can the PS3 have in launch to show the quality difference remains to be seen.

Ofcourse as you said it depends on  how they play their cards.I am sure Sony is making prognosis and estimations on problems and difficulties these time line between the releases of the consoles they will have to face and they are calculating the right actions to take.

heh true. But probably the years when it was just PS2 and DC it was probably the strongest  "graphics whore" period. It was like "oh my f*cking god, toy story graphics".  "PS2 WILL  KILL DC" "Did you see the demos"  "OMG HOW MANY MILLION POLYGONS?"
Technical aspects were discussed as much as never before because people expected to see the huge deifference seen between 16 bit console\'s and 32 bit consoles.
They didnt give much attention to the creative part of the graphics.Only to the technical."Did you see that?Wow!That stage with the grass....have you seen anything like that on the DC?" "Man that reflection looks damn gorgeous" "look how the wood shines in Jin\'s stage" "The lighting effects are like nothing seen in a DC game" etc.

I see a more pricy PS3 with less games and.....not so much better graphics. :p

FALSE . Europe DOES matter a great deal in the gaming market. !. Damn USA arrogance. End of discussion.

Anyway, my point was ; there are still alot of ppl who were Sega fans back then, and still blame the rise of PS2 for about 100 % for DC\'s fall. That\'s plain wrong ! That is the outside projection of their own hurt fanboy feelings inflicted by Sega itself. Certainly here in Europe the fall of Sega is due SEga itself. PS2 hype was about nil and it even launched way later then USA PS2. Instead of regaining status, Sega\'s lackluster policy screwed it\'s fanbase , of which i was part, over once more.

I dont see sony losing any potential customers. Im sure that, close to, 90%  of the people that puchased a PS2 will also purchase a PS3 just because. If anything, like it has already been mentioned, people will purchase both machines.

As for square Enix switching to Xbox - I will be one very upset individual if it were to happen.

Well, Sony and MS are aiming for the same demographic.  MS seems to be picking up more support.  EA finally signing on is a big deal and it might encourage more developers in the future.

People will go where the games are.  PS One did it to Sega and Nintendo...all it takes are the right circumstances.

Square is only interested in the most popular console, they have no loyalty otherwise.  They proved that when they left Nintendo.

I wouldnt like it at all if japanese developers start supporting MS more. And it has nothing to do with Sony fanboism.I prefer seeing japanese developers supporting Nintendo or Sony prpducts. If they switch to MS forget console gaming as you know it.

Just to let you know, that post may be one of the dumbest in recent forum history. It made no sense what so ever.

I will never think of Xbox as a gaming console...
People always bragging about the better graphics...but the framerate is sh*t. That has nothing to do with the last thing I said...but anything that is as large as the Xbox can\'t be called a console... :D
