Look at the Panasonic and Toshiba RPTVs, they look nice.

Panasonic PT-53X54
Toshiba 51H84

They actually have better color rendition and are brighter than the LCD sets but they suffer from burn in.  Not as bad as you think though.

Don\'t skimp on a set.  The set is goign to be a 10-15 year investment.  You buy a piece that you aren\'t happy with you will be regretting it.  I love my set and honestly over a year later I can still say I would buy this set today if I had the choice of today\'s tv\'s.  The price point on my set is still above what I paid for it a year later.  You have to do your research and then be happy.

BUT!!!!  By all freaking means!!!!

If you buy an HD set, you MUST buy an HD receiver immediately.

You try and justify a 3000 set with the SD programming and your wife will rail you.

i prefer the traditionally CRT tube.

If you can, go with RPTV CRT such as the Toshiba  51" posted above...

or better model with built in hd tuner, cable card slot, hdmi, firewires...

CRTs will be around until digital displays can produce nice inky blacks.  CRTs are also the only displays which can resolve 1080p under $8k at the moment.  You want digital at that res you gotta drop $25k. :\\  Intel\'s hyped up inexpensive LCOS chips are all but vaporware at this point.

CRTs  are huge, heavy, and not so classy.

YEs, they have better blacks, but I thought Barbershop sizucked.

Actually I like the pictures from a CRT, I just wouldn\'t buy one.  THere field of view is extremely narrow and they are just so darn big.

CRT are bulky,

but pros outweight th cons in my opinion.  Its just depends what some consumers sees important.

To me, the #1 most important factors when buying a displays are:

- Picture quality.

And CRT is still the king for picture quality.  Plus, its much cheaper than other format too!

So that\'s the two main reasons why I like CRT, great black level, picture quality, and the cheapest compares to other formats.

Other formats are catching up too...

CRTs you absolutely have to get an ISF tech to do it up in order for it to look good.  COnvergence has to be screwed with every year or so.

I will have a CRT in my home theater though unless I fall into a pit of money and I can afford to get a DLP projector.

Oh yeah, another bad thing about CRTs..

BURN IN!!!!!

Good luck playing video games.

Hope you enjoy stretching 4x3 material.
