RED SOX - WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS
« on: September 30, 2004, 10:29:08 AM »
Ok, we\'re about a week away from the playoffs.

In the American League, the Yankees, Red Sox, and Twins gained early births into the playoffs, but the Angels and Athletics are still duking it out for the last spot.

As much as we know about the AL, what we don\'t know is who will face who, because the Twins and Angels have the same record, but the A\'s are but one behind, so it\'ll be nice to see how it develops.

In the National League, St. Louis had cliched about a month ago and are by far the best team in the NL.  In all likelyhood the Dodgers will win the west, they are like 1 or 2 games from clinching.  The Braves won something like their 14th straight NL East, but have yet to do something with it.  The wild card in the NL has been the most exciting race of them all, basically it is coming down to the Astros, Cubs, and Giants.  San Diego still has an outside shot, but they are still a good year away from post-season contention.

This year has been so exciting.  The Red Sox record gets better every year, and hopefully this year they can win the world series.  Deep down inside, I know they\'ll find a way to blow it.  But alas, they have a Yankee Killer, number 38, Curt Schilling!!!

GO RED SOX!!!!

As long as my boys go all the way I don\'t care about ratings.

As a matter of fact the farther my boys go the better the ratings will be.

RSN pushes the needle.

Wouldn\'t worry about the Cubs being in the playoffs...that\'s just not goona happen.

Completed losing 3 of 4 at home against the Reds yesterday. Mark Prior went 9 innings, gave up 1 run on 3 hits, and 16 strikeouts, and got a no decision -- only runs the Cubs scored were on a Sammy Sosa Solo Shot, and we left the bases loaded 3 separate times. They did everything to lose, and they did. They choked -- 3 games left, 1 game back from the Astors. The Astros face the Rockies at home in the final 3, and the Cubs have the Braves at home in the final 3. Barring a sweep, the Cubs have literally no shot.

See Yuz.
What do Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Matt Clement, and Carlos Zambrano have in common?

They\'re the pieces to the next great pitching rotation of our time, what else?

GO CUBS!

This is sick, both Anahiem and LA rally for victories to knock out their california rivals from the playoffs.

Congrats Anahiem & LA, respective West division winners.

Most likely the sox will see the Angels now, which is good and bad.  Bad because  they\'re hot and that\'s not a team you want going into the playoffs.  Good because, they won\'t be able to align their pitching rotation accordingly, and we should have mis-matches.  Plus we won the season series. :)

Minnesota scares me because we lost the season series, and anytime you see Santana twice, you KNOW you have to win the other 3.

GO SOX!!!!

BTW: Was anyone\'s departure from the playoff race more depressing than the Cubs?  I mean they had to play the Reds and the Mets, and they still blew it.

CUBS = Completely Useless Beyond September

Not to make excuses or anything, but how many days off did the Red Sox have after September 9th?

Cubs didn\'t have any, and were forced to play 25 games in 24 days. Kinda sucks when you\'re running on fumes and your offense is in a slump. Oh well...hopefully we resign Nomar and try to keep the team together...and get Steve Stone out of the damn booth. What a jackass.

Oh well, Go Braves and Jon Lieber. See Yuz.

Yuck!

I hate the Braves, and Jon Lieber plays for the Yankees!  Blasphemy!

Yeah, but I like the Braves and Jon Lieber is not only a former Cub, but he\'s a Husker fan, too :)

(Note: I too despise the Yankees. I want to make that perfectly clear)

98 wins. Never thought I\'d see that, back in June.

This is actually the best Sox team of my lifetime. Every other time we had a good squad we were lacking in some department. If we had pitching we needed bullpen help. If we had a nice bullpen our defense sucked. If we had defense our bench was thin. This Sox team has all of the above(Starters, Offense, Defense, Bench, Bullpen) and IMO has a GREAT chance of winning the AL pennant.

It just seems like something is different this year. I can\'t quite put my finger on it though........

:D Oh yeah. Now I remember.

Hell yeah. It\'s just too bad that Pedro didn\'t dominate. If he\'d been "himself" all year instead of.. give or take.. half of the year.. we\'d have 100+ wins.

98 is great, but 100 is a great milestone for any franchise in today\'s market.

Well the Braves play the Astros, they always beat them in the postseason but this year seems to be a bit different.  Hopefully they\'ll win that and not choke too bad in the NLCS.
