MLB Playoffs - Can this year top last years?
« Reply #30 on: October 07, 2004, 08:45:04 AM »
*sigh*

Who in the **** leaves in Joe Nathan when he\'s obviously spent? Rod Gardenhire blows Game 2 for the Twins. Unbelievable.

He\'s GOT to know that, well, JC Romero ISN\'T THAT BAD OF AN OPTION IN THE PEN. Nathan was obviously spent halfway thorugh his 2nd inning of work, and he should have been done thereafter. Then, they get the lead, and he throws Nathan out there for a 3rd inning, and what should have happened did -- Nathan got shelled against Jeter and A-Rod.

If you put Romero in right from the get-go, you don\'t even worry about A-Rod or Sheffield, you just go after Olerud, Cairo, and Jeter. Ugh.

Series tied at 1...Johan\'s goona have to win this series by himself.

See Yuz.
What do Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Matt Clement, and Carlos Zambrano have in common?

They\'re the pieces to the next great pitching rotation of our time, what else?

GO CUBS!

Gardenhiere pulled a Grady last night.

Sox won again 8-3, Petey back in normal form.

Houston won behind the rocket. :)

STL leads LA, 1-0
HOU leads ATL, 1-0
BOS leads ANA, 2-0
NYY tied MIN, 1-1

mjps\'s picks were complete garbage, he\'s already gotten two wrong, showing a lack of baseball knowledge common amongst yankee fans.

I didn\'t see you pick any??? And the Yanks will still win the series as will Cards and Astros, so even though the games are a little off 3 of 4 ain\'t bad, so take your garbage Sox and toss\'em. You guys win one world series you\'d be talking about it for another 100 some odd years.

Seriously every year they get on Santas knee and wish for a World Series Championship, get over it, if its that bad go buy a gun and end your life, you have 3 good years left that you can win a championship if that, then you have to reload again, don\'t forget you ruined what you had with Nomar, 2 years Pedro will be broken down, he\'s shown signs of it in the past few years, Schilling is good for maybe 1 or 2 more years. Then you just have an offense with little or no defense because the trades you made this season will be gone in a couple years.

Hmm, in three years they\'ll have no starting pitching and no defense...just an offense they\'ll have to hope can carry them.

...sounds a lot like the Yankees this year.

What makes you think the Red Sox only have 3 more years of contention? How many years do the Yankees have? If you say they have a lot more than that you REALLY don\'t know baseball.

The yankees can contend as long as Georgey feels like financing it.

And if you think the Sox can\'t contend in 3 years cause Pedro and Schilling are old, that\'s crap.  They\'ll be able to sign players if they want from the trades this year, and when they lose Pedro and Schilling, they can just go out and get new pitchers.  It\'ll free up tons of salary room.  You should know how that works, the Yanks do it every year.

I\'m just talking about the core players they have now. Maybe I should be eslaborate more. And I never said the Yankees could, so don\'t put words in my mouth, and I\'ll breed all I want Sam so there will be little Yankees running around.

In 3 years:
Manny will be 35
Damon will be 34
Nixon will be 33
Bellhorn will be 33
Cabrera will be 33
Varitek will be 35
Ortiz will be 32
Mueller will be 36
Millar will be 36

Sounds like the core will still be ticking to me...

We can\'t all be Barry Bonds now. ;)

Edit: The only clock that will be ticking for them is there time in the game. Some of those players all be it good now will not be what they are now.

^^^the Sox have the second highest payroll in the game so they can afford to go get players to replace other players.

The only player with a long contract is Manny and Theo Epstein is NOT going to sign a player to a crazy contract that is going to hamper the team from performing in the future.

Not to mention the fact that the Red Sox have one of the best minor league players in Hanley Ramirez(SS). A five tooler who in a few years should be in Fenway.
