MLB Playoffs - Can this year top last years?
« Reply #15 on: October 03, 2004, 06:14:29 PM »
Can someone sticky this?  It will be going on for a few weeks.

Schilling is da man, but a lot of people are picking the Angels because Pedro hasn\'t been himself.  I think he\'ll be his usual self come post-season, but the biggest suprise has to be Arroyo, he\'s really come around since the beginning of the season.

It all starts Tuesday, Schilling needs to win.

Most people are picking the Angels because they are on a hot streak going into the post season.

I\'m hoping that they are beat up after fighting for their playoff hopes all the way up to the end of the season.

They also beat up Seattle and Choakland, quite amazing.

The Red Sox will lose. They always do. This is coming from a fan. I even made a five year bet that they will not will the WS in the next five years.

It was a tough bet to make but I was pushed against the wall and I have history on my side.

All Red Sox know the Ultimate fate of their team.  That doesn\'t mean you can\'t root for them and show some optimism.  Plus like someone said, this team is different.

I agree but the years of waiting have worn me down. 1986 was so hard to deal with in a sports sense that it broke my spirit. So now I figure I might as well make a buck of them.

Then again, with my luck, they\'ll probably win this year and you can thank me for it. :)

Is it just me, or does the AL look A LOT better than the NL right now?

Oh, and you know what I wouldn\'t mind seeing?

Astros over Yankees.  MVP Roger Clemens.  As much as I hate him.

I will go with the two teams I picked at the beginning of the season.

Red Sox & Astros

My beginning of the season picks were the Cubs and Angels, does that mean I halfway win?

I personally think that the winner of the Sox/Angels series will win the AL.  Minnesota will be less dangerous over a seven game series than they are over 5 with Santana.  The Yanks...I just don\'t see them having the pitching to make it work.  They need A LOT to work out for them to win the AL (mainly Brown and El Duque).

The Angels are playing amazingly right now, and I love the effect that a bullpen like theirs can have in the postseason, where the bullpen has less to save itself for and can pitch more innings.  I honestly think that is possibly the most important thing in the playoffs.  When they won the series two years ago, it was on their bullpen with Rodriguez emerging and Percival being his normal badass self.  Both are back now.  When the Yanks dominated, that bullpen was what did it for them too.  Add into that the man I think is the AL MVP in Vlad, Anderson, and a bunch of guys who have been there before and just know how to win, and I think this team is gonna be tough to beat.

The Sox on the other hand, score runs like no one else, and have the best 1-2 starter combo in baseball.  I think the wildcard is Wakefield.  He was amazing last year in the playoffs.  If he can be solid this year, I think this team wins the world series, cursed or not.

As for the NL...is it possible to root against everyone?  I hate the Astros and I hate Clemens.  The Cards I\'m kinda so so on, but I don\'t like Rolen, being a sorta semi Phils fan now that I live in Philly.  That\'s prolly the team I root for though, seeing as how the Braves and Dodgers are two of my 3 most hated teams in baseball (the Giants being the other).

LOL, your picking the Yankees with that makeshift rotation.  Wow, even though you are biased, those are still outrageous picks.

The Yankees will win the series, but it will be in 5 games, not 3.  They won\'t beat Santana once, much less twice.

The Red Sox have owned the Angels.  Schilling beat them twice in Anaheim, and once at home.  Pedro will not pitch like he did a few weeks back, and the Angels will not go into Fenway and take two games.

I do believe the Astros will beat the Braves, and fairly easily.  Clemens and Oswalt line up perfectly, Hoiuston really played their cards right on this one.

The Dodgers do not have the man power the Cardinals have, and they\'re fairly equal in pitching.  So a logical choice would be the Cardinals.

Really man, did you put any thought into your picks?

Note: It\'s pretty obvious Yankee fans do not want to see the Red Sox in the ALCS this year after the Sox took 11 games (4 of 6 series) from the Yankees during the year.  Every Yankee fan is picking the Angels in the first round, while most neutral parties, and the logical ones, are picking the Red Sox.  I\'m not gaurenteeing anything, infact I\'m not one to make bold predictions, all the games are predicated by the games that were played before them.  The Red Sox fans do want to see the Yankees, the Yankees do not want to see the Red Sox

The Wild Card for Boston is Pedro and Arroyo. If we see August Petey we are fine but if we see late September Petey it will be a struggle. Arroyo has been our third best starter and depending on the performance of Pedro could shut the door or swing momentum.

I disagree. Its pretty much 50/50 with picks for the Angels/Sox. A LOT of people are picking the Angels to streak right through the World Series.

I like our matchups against Anaheim\'s pitching and I think a lot of people are failing to realize that the Sox are on a better streak than the Angels and have been resting for almost a week.

If the Red Sox ever win the World Series, deep down I think it will only be right if they beat the Yanks on the way there. However if the Yanks get knocked out in the ALDS and the Sox go all the way you can be damn sure that you will STILL be seeing my black ass acting a damn fool on Landsdowne St.

 That NEVER gets old.

Cardinals 8, Dodgers 3

St. Louis takes a 1-0 lead

Red Sox 9, Angels 3

Boston takes a 1-0 lead

Pedro pitches well against the West, and it should be warm out in California, so I expect Petey to pitch well.
