Halo 2 = most reserved game in history

Just an early warning for this thread -- no one spoil the single player campaign or I will use a sticky grenade on your balls.

a million presales is not that big of a deal

You know how many game companies wish they could just break that number?  How often does it really happen?  I remember when PSOne greatest hits titles were released based on a million in sales.  However, near no company could meet that requirement.  Then it was levied to 750,000.  Then 500,000.  It\'s below even that now with the ps2.  If the PS2 is the top-selling console, then selling a million copies on that system, even if the game is moderately good, should be as easy as pie -- but it obviously isn\'t.

If Halo only sold well because of a lack of options, as you suggest, then that doesn\'t explain the sales of Halo 2 prior to its launch.  The Xbox has far more options, and far better ones according to many users on this board apparently, and yet barely any of them can even get close to a million units or break the number, but Halo 2 has done it before it has launched.

I just don\'t get your logic on this one, mm.

And your point is?How many of these platinum versions are XBOX exclusives(games that sell only on XBOX)?Do you know what is the sales mark for a game to become a "greatest hit" for XBOX?
And allmost all the exclusives are 3+ years old.

mm is insinuating that the ps2 GH titles, that sony constantly lowers the standards for, are no better then some of the crap that microsoft allows to be on their lists.  However, despite this point, mm missed my point entirely about games hitting a million sold, let alone reserved before release.  Me bringing up the GH titles on the ps2 wasn\'t a doorway for him to compare GH and Platinum titles, but a way to show that selling a million units of a single game is so difficult, even with a userbase of over 30 million, that Microsoft doing that in just pre-orders is a remarkable achievement and fueled, not by a lack of options, but by gamers obviously interested in the Halo brand name.

Oh, and pictures of multiplayer are totaly fair game, Nu.  :)

I don\'t get the whole pre-sale thing.  I mean that doesn\'t gaurentee it will be good.  In this case we know what we\'re getting, but honestly who can know for sure?

No one is talking about if the game is going to be good or not.  We\'re just saying, based on the original and how good it was, lots of people want part 2.  There\'s nothing else implied beyond that.  We can all discuss how good it is or how bad it is on November 9th. :)

So mm basically expects from a company to name two categories of cheap games. One called "shit games that must be cheap in order to make you buy them" and another one called "greatest hits" that result from high sales so we consumers (AND mm) should know the difference. :p
....wait....what does this have to do with Ryu\'s point about how hard is for a game to reach these sales numbers?

Well.It shows that many liked Halo1 and it earned a huge fanbase.People are eager to get the sequel in their hands judging from their previous experience with Halo and their expectations for the sequel.

no, my point was that just about any title (even spongebob - battle in bikini bottom) can make over a million sales and make platinum list

sorry for your confusion
i\'ll make it less cryptic next time

oh, and many people liked halo and it has a huge fanbase because it had ZERO competition.  this was already said pages ago....

and roughly 20% of the original owners have preorderd, thats hardly alot

Then that means I got your point from teh beginning you just dont understand other people\'s point

And that arguement about Halo\'s fanbase having zero competition is pure BS.If the game isnt good enough even if it sells a lot it doesnt mean it will get equal praise.
If I agree with you that spongebob sold a million and that Halo is praised because it sold well its like saying that Spongebob has lots of fans(I am puting some effort not to laugh) and that a sequel to Spongebob will be one of the biggest anticipated most eagarly awaited games......ok...thats it.Cant hold it....HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Btw:Do you have actual numbers of Spongebob\'s sales?

Oh and you know whats very funny about that? You always bring up sales as proof that a game sucks or not. What are you trying to say now? That spongebob is better than or as good as the Wind Waker?Or as ICO?.Probably if Halo sold less it would have been proof that is a great game?
You contradict yourself

Also what makes you think that Halo1 owners/fans that havent preordered the game wont be willing to buy it directly from shops?

bro, please

you\'re going to hurt yourself

the offtopic forum might be more your speed

you\'re trying way too hard to prove nothing

now i dont know if the educational system in your country sucks, or your reading comprehension is just terrible, but sales = king is my famous quote before you race off to hunt it down.

this does not imply the game is good or not. what is does prove, is market trends.

Back then, eh? If it only got as far as it did because there was no competition when it initially came out-- why would it continue to sell hundreds of thousands of copies now when there is so much competition from all sides of the spectrum(even on the same platform)?

But anyways... Images in a bit.

oh, there\'s another FPS on the xbox?
i didnt realize
[/sarcasm]

while we\'re talking about moot points
imagine for a second, if you will, that m$ never bought the rights to halo and it remained a mac project.

would the xbox have ended up like the 3do?  take away all the ports also, and what are you left with?
