Hmm something I just noticed while watching FOX News and their cute little John Paul II logo.

Why is his name different in the US/UK compared to what he is called in the rest of the world (not Poland IIRC)?

We write \'Johannes Paulus II\'

Why is that? I have also heard that Kings that are referred to Karl here are named Charles in England. Yet we call Prince Charles for ‘Prins Charles’ and not ‘Prins Karl’. ;)
Weird, can create some confusion. :p

Then its no different from ‘renaming’ cities, Rome, Rom, Roma. Beijing, Peking etc?

But the name Johannes does exist in the US/UK?
Same with Karl etc. Hmm. Well it sounds about right, there are many forms of names in different countries.
Fredrich, Fredrik, Frederick.
Heinrich, Henrik, Hendrick.
