The build of Perfect Dark Zero that we were looking at was eight weeks old and running on alpha development kits that, we were told, have only a fraction of the power that will be available on the Xbox 360. The game still looked really great, although the frame rate was a bit choppy at times. In the final game, Rare is shooting for a solid 30 frames per second, whether you\'re playing solo or with three other players on the same screen.

It said with three other players on the same screen, which I assume means split screen.  They are still going to try and achieve the 50+ players online.

Halo and Halo 2 ran at 30fps.  What\'s the big deal?

I\'m seriously asking.  Last I played both Halo games (and I assume the Xbox version of Doom 3 is also 30fps) they were fine as is.

60fps would be nice, but it won\'t ruin the game.  Not even a little bit.

Halo is slow, unresponsive. I guess it\'s okay because the gameplay suits it fine.

TimeSplitters is better in this aspect in every way. It\'s fast, it\'s precise and it\'s a joy to play because you feel like you\'re there, being able to rotate extemely fast and aim where you want to, even using the analog controls.

Just compare MGS2 and 3 in first person mode. The difference there and it\'s very noticable. First person shooters as like racers should always be 60 Hz.

I\'ve played both Halo\'s for hours and I\'ve never experience this "slow" or "unresponsive" gameplay you mention.  In fact, I find it to be really precise and easy to play.

I\'m not suggesting you\'re lying, I\'ve read an arguement over in the Beyond3d forums about the difference between NTSC and PAL releases...

EDIT: Found it:
Quote
I\'ve had this argument so many times, but it won\'t change the fact that a game running at 30fps has a slower response time for the input to be processed. When you racing along at 180 mph, these milliseconds of delay make a huge difference.

I guess because I live in a PAL region I see the difference this makes more often. You only have to play a PAL and NTSC releases side by side to see the difference the drop from 60fps to 50 fps makes, let alone going to 30 fps.

It is funny, but on one of the other forums I frequent, http://www.rllmukforum.com/index.php there was a long thread extolling the virtues of the NTSC release of Halo over the botched PAL release that only ran at 25fps. There were many posts from gamers that had bought the NTSC version after years of owning the PAL release and being shocked by the difference it made to the game play. We are only talking about 5 frames a second in this example.

Yeah, that sucks for you guys.

I notice some slowness too. The game isn\'t flawless.

No game is flawless, and Halo is more than playable.

Out of curiousity though, what exactly are you referring to when you say it\'s unresponsive or slow?
