Who is this anamoly we call Jumpman? How is he able to do what he does and still survive after years of torment? It seems he feeds on the hate, growing with an intense passion to put unassuming members in their place.

I cancelled my pre-order. Not because lack their of on 360 part.

I just can wait on any console now ps3 or xbox360.

I\'ll have one by christmas. I just don\'t play consoles like I use too am not in a rush to spend $400 just to get nba 06 and see shaqs sweat glands.

I was hyped for madden but it sucks on xbox/ps2 so I see no other games besides kameo I like now.

and what could be worst, being an early adopter, might means you have to buy the xbox360 again when they included this "HD-DVD" drive...again, if microsoft do make a rather risky move...

I imagine that HD-DVD is not really going to give blue-ray much of a fight, and if blue-ray gives in on some small issues, they might be able to convince MS to be a user.

In any event, some future version of the box will have a larger capacity reader, because even now, we\'re pushing the limits of storage one a single DVD for many games.  With higher resolution textures, more complex and numerous objects, and more complex engines, it\'s just a matter of time before games hit the 10-15 GB mark, if not much more.

It will be interesting to see if companies will release future \'large\' games on 2 DVDs, 1 new format DVD (giving the shaft to early adopters), or both....

**EDIT**

Tycho over at Penny Arcade is saying that his local electronics store is not going to fill preorders by date taken, but by peripherals and games simultaneously ordered.  Now, this isn\'t MS\'s fault, EXCEPT that if it\'s true, MS should be shoving their size 50 boot into the A!$ off any distributor doing this.  Talk about the worlds worst PR move ever.

Well, I don\'t know if they will eat up a lot of data, but I doubt it eat it as much as CG movies in video format, such as in high def in MPEG-2, MPEG-4, or VC-1...

Remember, HD-DVD now supports up to 3 layers, each with 15 GBytes in prototype.  and last I checked, HD-DVD can support up to a total of 4 layers.  Giving you a total of 60 GBytes.

But of course, Blu Ray still beat HD-DVD in the storage area.

Blu Ray supports up to 8 layers, each with 25 Gbytes, giving you a total of 200 Gbytes...I remember reading TDK created a 4 layers 100 Gbytes prototype blu ray disc about a couple of months ago, and of course they are all compatible with current 2 layers Blu Ray  player/reader...

Problem is gen1 360s are shipping with just a regular DVD drive - ie, 9 gigs max.  Can you imagine how the new Square games will take advantage of having Blue-ray Storage?  Nevermind impressive FMV for 10-15 sec, they\'ll be able to throw in HDTV cutscenes that last minutes at a time (if they want).

If MS was serious about challenging the movie market with HD-DVD they really should have included it with the 360, so people wouldn\'t even have to buy a new DVD player to take advantage of the movies when they came out in their new format.

I think the number #1 factor why Microsoft didn\'t bother including an HD-DVD drive is cost.  Being the richest company in the world, I would have thought Microsoft is willing to loss more money per unitl sold by adding an HD-DVD drive.  But I guess Microsoft didn\'t want to do that.

The Number 2 reason may have to do with that they are not certain which format will win out in the end, so instead of supporting either the Blu Ray or HD-DVD.  They just go with the current DVD rom format.

Again, I don\'t think the Blu Ray and HD-DVD video spec is finalize yet.  So launching XBOX earlier with either of the two format, I don\'t think you can play video in those two formats yet, unless of course, their is a firmware update in the future...

heh, two of my friends that were originally bumped off the \'first shipment\' pre-order list got calls last night saying they can get back in if they wanted.

apparantly, there\'s a rash of pre-order cancellations within the last week.

perhaps the poor ratings of launch titles are killing the hype.

Isn\'t Walmart that is the uber richest in the world?

Perhaps an underground evil organization James Bond has yet to encounter?
