i think i\'ve already mentioned i\'m dissapointed at the price..i think sony is a big enough company that they could at least absorb 399...but 499 & 599? that\'s ridiculous. are they in bed with the oil company\'s or what?...clowd,... that was kinda ignorant of you blamin\' microsoft for startin this two console thing...as i\'ve stated before sony had the perfect opportunity to smash the competition, but squandered it,..especially since they are the last one to release their system!...they saw the other companies play their hand and yet they followed suit of both companies.. nintendo (motion controller) microsoft (two consoles)....pathetic
what would have been brillant would have been for them to release the fully loaded version at 399 and crush the competition...they are going to take a hit on the hardware anyway, but they still make up for it with the sales of the current ps2\'s and games from that sector. they absolutely blew an opportunity to shine...i will still cop one tho,...probably not at launch...but most likely the 2nd or third batch of ps3\'s...
I dont think Sony would have put that price if they could sell it at $399 without problems. Sony would have sold it cheaper if they could. But if they do sell it cheaper they wont be able to recover even if they sell every single one of them. Its clear that the cost of manufacturing is HUGE. They decided to put extra value on it to become more competitive in other areas that differentiate their product from MS. But the price increased.
Indeed it has many extras on it the 360 doesnt have as standard but it sure increased the price.
Sony put a huge risk. They decided to differentiate the PS3 than try sell it less, hoping people will still buy it. They ddnt want to sell it cheaper (but still a bit more expensive than the 360) without enough differences. They believe that in order not to lose lots of market share they should offer things that will make the 360 less valuable in comparisson in the maind of the consumer than sell it with less features and at a cheaper price.
It partially worked. PS3 indeed for many seems a whole better product than 360 but the price still hurts despite that they want to get one. Many want to have one but are reconsidering it. Some early adopters will wait instead. The problem is, if most potentially early adopters decide to wait for a price drop instead of buying it at launch, the price drop wont be there since there wont be enough early adopters from teh beginning.
