I guess I should be shot. I would (almost) buy a PS2 for Gran Turismo 3. But also because there are so many other great games I\'m looking forward to. :)

Sam-I said anyone who\'d buy it just for a racing game. You obviously don\'t fall into that category.

ddaryl-Yea, I was kinda loosing my train of thought on that E3 stuff, but I think by 2002, rumors will be flying about Sega\'s next system, and, unless developers get of their lazy asses and take advantage of PS2, XB\'s and GC\'s second gen titles will be as spetacular. If things go right, XB\'s, (and GC\'s) launch games will look as good as PS2\'s 2nd gen titles. Why? PS2\'s absurd learning curve. My attitude is if those lazy **** developers let Saturn die instead of bothering to learn it, why should PS2 get a chance? There\'s nothing special about Sony. Let them flounder the way you (developers) let Saturn flounder.   ....I\'m gettin\' all worked up, so I\'ll end my post now.

Couple of things.  First of all, the developers didn\'t let the Saturn die - Sega did.  Sega dropped support.  The Saturn barely had 100,000 users after 6 months, and it took 3 years to reach one million users.  Yet it still received ports of popular PSX games like Wipeout and Resident Evil.  Developers were working it - despite the iddy biddy userbase.

Secondly, why should PS2 get a chance?  Because it\'s the Playstation 2.  Because the Playstation 1 had over 80 million people worldwide.  Because it is the most anticipated console this generation amongst casual gamers.  There\'s a huge difference between PS2 and Saturn.  Many consoles have been difficult to develop for, but still supported.  Saturn\'s support died because Sega walked away, and because the userbase was tiny (thanks to a $400 price tag and poor marketing/retailer relations).

Regarding E3:  PS2 has 300 developers.  It has been out in Japan since, what, March?  By E3, the system will have been on shelves a year.  Developers will have spent almost 2 years with finalized development kits and will be more familiar with them.  300 developers.  Two years experience in their development environment.  Are you honestly going to tell me that the XBox - which has 150 developers and NO finalized dev kits/specs - will have a superior E3 showing?  XBox is at an unfair advantage, just like PS2 was against Sega last year.  I\'m not saying that Sony will own E3, I just don\'t understand the logic of an unfinalized console having a better display than one with 300 experienced development teams.
