X-Box upgraded to 1GhZ......What the ****......?????

Microsoft is a computer company first, so it\'s not too surprising to see its Xbox console getting a faster and faster processor. What was once a mere 600MHz has now become a full 1 GHz. The chip is also said to be a Pentium III.

Compare this number to the PlayStation 2\'s 300 MHz speed, and it can be enough to make even the most hardcore Sony supporter feel a little weak in the knees. Sony had best get more PS2 units out to the public soon, before gamers get hit with a case of wait-itis similar to what potential Dreamcast buyers were afflicted with when that system debuted.

Well Sony has a whole year to sell all the PS2\'s it needs to make sure Microsoft doesn\'t steal the casual gamer.

where did you hear this?
if its true its just further info that the x-box is vaporware!

That is exactly what will stop PS2 from becoming a poor console.  Most of my mates (casual gamers) well want the PS2, but ain\'t even heard of X-Box, and I\'m quite sure that when they hear tha Microsoft are making a games console, they will not be bothered and will try and steer clear of it

Before I get flamed, I\'ll state that I am a PC gamer as well as a PS2 owner and this is just my opinion.

1 Ghz for the X-box sounds impressive, but you have to consider the total architecture of the system as well as the architecture of the chip itself.  The X-box relies on a chip architecture that is about 15 years old (the x86 architecture) that was conceived initially for office applications.  The PS2 is a totally different animal.  It is a totally different architecture that was built from the ground up to be a gaming system.  Yes the X-box is a very optimized and standardized system as PCs go, but it\'s still just a PC.

What I\'m trying to say is comparing the PS2 to the X-box in terms of Mhz is comparing apples to oranges.  And until E3 it\'s still just vaporware.

P.S.  Realistically, if you upgraded from a 733 Mhz to a 1 Ghz PIII in your computer you wouldn\'t notice much difference in the speed of your games.  You\'d have to run a benchmarking program to tell you it was faster.

Very true, this is. MHz doesn\'t count so much. It\'s about the chip. I was disappointed when I heard it\'s "just" Pentium III Advanced...

Maybe I was over-hyped but I waited for something more revolutionar

And about the X-box reputation. It doesn\'t have one yet. Playstation 2 had buzz all over it year before release, but that was because Playstation was so successfull. Now x-box will begin an ad-campaign, I\'m sure, and most of us Internet-owners know about it already. But who of us cares? That\'s more important question

Its still 733mhz. MS has finalized the specifications for the Xbox.

Potential Dreamcast buyers waited because of several things: 1) The Sega brand has been tarnished by 32X/Sega CD/Saturn.  The public was mistrustful of it (as were developers).  2) The Dreamcast had no "big name" franchises like Madden, Tekken, Ridge Racer, Final Fantasy, etc.  3) The Dreamcast had no television marketing.  People weren\'t waiting because the PS2 was more powerful; casual gamers don\'t give a damn about power.  They were waiting because it wasn\'t on TV, it had no big name franchises, and they weren\'t sure of Sega after the Saturn.

Two years.  Not only does Sony have a one year headstart, but you have to remember, it will take time for the XBox to build up a library.  By the time XBox launches, PS2 will most likely have a price drop and at least 150 games in it\'s library.  The XBox will constantly be trying to catch the PS2\'s software library.  Casual gamers will be leery of a new contestant in the console wars - look at the PSX.  One million sales took almost 18 months.  Now imagine if that "new" PSX had been taking on a console that had franchises like Madden, Tekken, etc.  Ouch.  If anybody can pull it off, Microsoft can.  But it\'s going to be a bitch that first year while they\'re waiting for the library to build.

Secondly, the EE and the Pentium III are totally different. I don\'t know why the people are still looking at the Mhz when it doesn\'t give you a real proof of the system\'s capacity. Actually, the EE outperforms the Pentium III. It\'s at least, 2 to 3 times more powerful( specially in 3D calculation). Also, it doesn\'t have the bandwith problem that the P-III has.
The real capacity of the X-box it\'s on the GPU, not in the CPU, and this isn\'t going to change if they make the micro work at a higher speed, so this discussion is useless.

And another thing, i don\'t know what are you look for when you choose a system, but the most important thing for me is the support( number of developers, and which games are going to be developed for the system), and in this case the PS2 is amazing.

C\'mon X-box isn\'t that bad! I reckon by the time the X-box launches there will be like a PIIII 1.5Ghz+ cpu inside.

Oh yeah, Brand new(basically) PIII 1 Ghz processor, that will only jack up the price from $300, to about oh say $600.  I also suppose it will have 256 MB of RAM.
