Can we please just get back on topic here? 90% of the posts on this thread is just flames so lets get the great topic back on topic so to speak, and give it the good credit and discussion it deserves. Here\'s the original post in case you have all forgotten:
I noticed this this new years eve... adults who have never owned or played a console before were VERY interested in SSX on my playstation 2...
Why?
The graphics!
The graphics got them interested, then when they gave it a chance and played it they were astounded and are remarkably going to buy one!
Then when told it also could play DVD\'s they were even happier beaucse they did not yet own a DVD player! And they were not disapointed at all when told they could buy one most likely in march...
Now that graphics are to the point they are, I belive that gaming will become MUCH more popular then it has been the last millienum! Its a bright gaming future and year ahead!
The playstation 2 is looking to capture the casual auidence, by including a DVD player, have a large varity of games and including the PSX library and having the "sony" name everybody knows. They seem to have something that will break barriers this generation.
I definitely agree. The 128 bit era will usher in many new and innovative games suitable to all ages. The best part is that the whole label of games being "kiddy" or a "toy" for your son or daughter is being lifted. Now parents can freely enjoy their son\'s or daughter\'s games without feeling like a child themselves for indulging in a "toy". I can\'t wait to see more and more "elders" become seriously interested in gaming and giving it the credit it truly deserves.
i wonder if u were playing pokemon snap on the N64 if it would have the same effect. hmmmm
After reviewing the main topic, I fail to see the point of this post when it was clearly talking about the 128 bit era and not the 32/64 bit era. If Pokemon Snap were an announced NGC title that we all had screens and movies for, maybe then it would be a rational remark, but right now, I don\'t think that it is. Sure, a Pokemon game is in the works for NGC, but for every pokemon game, there is one game that is 100x\'s more mature and that is something to really consider especially after considering Nintendo\'s new target audience.
But what i found out was that most adults own these systems already, and wouldnt even let their kids near them for the graphics(i think is to harse). Also, that sure they find the system amazing with the looks feelings, speed, and of course the DVD, but the price gets them everytime. The fact of paying that much for a video game system, scares them away. The true hard core gamer of course buys the products up, and considers the price a minor setback, for the DVD-rom, alone. As DVDs now can be very expenive.
Not always true. When parents figure out WHAT they can do with the system, the price is irrelevant and considered a good deal. Hell, if they wanted, they could freely go and explore the mall for a new DVD player and discover the price difference is nearly negligable. Most parents research their buys before diving in or and the rest simply buy it because it\'s the newest most awesome bad boy on the block. I think you\'d find the demographic for people purchasing PS2\'s would be for hardcore gamers now and younger kids at christmas, but over time, I believe the sales will really hash out with the majority of the purchases going to those who are over 18.
My point is that these Next-Gen systems allow developers to finally realize the creative ideas that they have. They no longer have the huge technical restraints that they had with the older systems, so it\'s going to be exciting what they do with all this power regardless of the platform.
I totally agree. I think the number one thing that will turn adults on moreso to videogames is the realism. Just look at Snake for example, just seeing him run around on screen is enough to make you think of how real it seems. No more sprite based games or side scrolling shooters, but moreso emphasized on full 3D worlds that everyone can immerse themselves in no matter the demographic. I think that level of realism is the first step towards gaming becoming a serious household name everywhere rather then a "toy for my kid."
It\'s a bright future for gaming and I think 2001 will be the first step in this expansion odyssey.
