First screen of PS2\'s HDD!

None the less i don\'t see the HDD being as succesful as the N64 expansion pack. First off the Expansion pack was 10 times cheaper, and also Nintendo game the EP away with some of it\'s games like Donky Kong.

Anyhow only time will tell  the fate of SONY\'S planned HDD, though you will not see me wasting my money on it, id rather spend it on a Steering wheel for GT3

Correct me if I am wrong; but are the PS2 add-ons not targeted at gamers? I could see if they were marketing it at the couch potatoes to use as a quasi VIVO but its not. Can you name me ONE add-on that was successful? Until that happens then I can safely say that all add-ons fail. BTW, for an add-on to be even close to being considered a success it has to sell to at least half of a consoles installed userbase.

the 32X and 64DD had very few developers to back them.

So Macromedia, RealNetworks, etc. are developers because they supplied software? IMO, Sony is more concerned about digital convergence than they are about gaming. Sony\'s "commitment" is to making a VIVO/VAIO/DVD/(I guess gaming) device.

Big difference between demand in a PS2 online forum and the average Joes hanging on the block. I don\'t even have to mention that a lot of the people that voted in the poll won\'t even buy the add-ons. I can sign up for the 2003 Mustang Future Owners Club but does that mean that when it comes out I will own one? Probably not. It\'s probably just a lot of wishful thinking.

BTW, I seriously want these peripherals to be successful; but I am a realist.

ok the N64 expansion pack was only used for a very small hand full of games (3 or 4 in the UK if i can remember)

it\'s only used to expand on the on board memory of the Nintendo 64.

---------------------------

The HDD and Internet Adaptor for the PS2

is alredy being developed for.

6 games SO far (excluding FF11 and posible online version of GT3 [GRAN TURSIMO B :SPEC working title]) the last time i checked.

it will alow the storage of save games files.
download of addon\'s (mod\'s and skins)
Download of music and movies (Thanks to AOL)
Access to the Internet ( thanks to netscape)
and thats not even alowing for Bigger and better games where a small portion of tha game can be stored on the rather nice 40GB HDD.

Well like i said ooseven, we will have to wait and see how it plays out. Either way I will not spend any more money on my psx2, except maybe purchasing a Weel for the racers.

Fine but please remeber to

NEVER SAY NEVER.....

If Sony carrys on they way they have started the development of the HDD and IA (internet Adaptor).

It Will take off

Plus some top of the range games will help to shif the "ODD" unit or two.

Remeber you don\'t have to buy this ADDon to enjoy the next wave of games, unlike PERFECT DARK .

true but if you want games that really take hold of the HDD potential then you know what console i\'m talking about.

450 canadian for PS2

Then you have the HDD which will cost around 200 canadian

modem $65 canadian

etc...

Man ooseven this is coasting some doe.

Anyways i\'m sure there is lots of HARDCORE sony gamers out there that buy a HDD for psx2. Altough i feel that the casual gammer wont be interested in the HDD nor it\'s COST

While only 2 or so games actually require it (btw those 2 games were huge sellers, Majora\'s Mask and Donkey Konk 64) many others can utilize it for bigger levels, more characters, ect.
It had a pretty good user base as well.

The EP was a failure. The installed base for it is very small compared to the N64\'s overall userbase.

These addons will fail, and if I knew anyone in person who disagrees, I\'d wager money on it. Fortunately for me, I hang around people with common sense.

no offense, but it\'s always the person who doesn\'t want an add-on,to be the first to say it will fail...it\'s been pointed out by others here that this "add-on" is unlike all the other add-ons because it\'s going to be more apart of the system itself rather than just an added piece of hardware. it will be used in a much different way than what item came out previously..it will have interactions with other hardware items (online adapter / digital camera / printer / sound devices / etc.) as well,so it doesn\'t just serve one purpose and it seems to be a developers dream of sort, more ideas can be explored. you have to look deeper at things before you finalize an answer and say it will fail. my opinion says it will be a smash hit!! then again my opinion is better anyways! :D

That was a right-purdy speech, but it\'s bull. It\'s no different than any other add-on. A developers dream? If they need a HD, they\'ll go over to XB were the HD\'s installed base is 100%. It\'s more apart of the system? What? ITS A ADDON! It\'s not a part of the system, or it would have been in the big blue box with the system. The addons will fail, without a doubt. Trust me, this is coming from some one who owns Sega CD, 32X, N64 EP.... I would buy these addons too if they were worth it... they aren\'t. Just like pocket station, the link cable, etc they won\'t have much support. At least with older addons, some games needed them. No game on PS2 will ever need the addons.

Of course I accept, even though I know that this will be forgotten and you will never pay me. How are we going to know if it is succesful? Are we going to wait until the PS3 launches?

Just about everyone in this thread that says it will fail plans on buying the add-ons despite the odds.

More apart of the system rather than an added piece of hardware?
You do realize that the HDD and BB adapters are hardware items that will be added to the PS2 correct?

developer\'s dream? More ideas can be explored?
How is this different from the lofty goals set for the SegaCD and 32X?
