First screen of PS2\'s HDD!

I\'ll have both (HDD and NIC). Actually, I don\'t care who thinks it\'ll fail, I\'m still getting it. No one knows it\'ll fail until it actually does. I like the idea of online gaming and net use on my PS2, so it\'s already bought. If it fails, it\'s my loss.

While only 2 or so games actually require it (btw those 2 games were huge sellers, Majora\'s Mask and Donkey Konk 64) many others can utilize it for bigger levels, more characters, ect.
It had a pretty good user base as well.

They both sold very well but the expansion pak did not. I am willing to bet money that there are more DK64 and PD out there than expansion packs.

I don\'t like addons either... I\'m not sure how well it\'ll sell (and it rhymes ;)). I think the harddrive will have a hard time selling itself. I for one won\'t be getting it if it\'s more than $5. :)

Gohan,
Do you know what the Expansion Pack sales are? If you don\'t, then all you are doing is grasping at strews. Now, you could be right that the expansion pack sold far far less then DK64 and/or Perfect Dark. But without evidence, your arguement doesn\'t hold water.

Now, I myself am not cool to the idea of add-ons. So, I don\'t really think this HDD will succeed in any level. But until it happens, no one can say it will.
Opinions are not important.

I don\'t like add-ons if they offer nothing but a little extra power(32X)...and I should never buy an hypothetical "256X" for my PS2 capable of pushing twice the number of polys....to play 3? or...4? Games which take advantage of it...it should be a Big failure !
The HDD is quite a different matter and if it will be the key to play games 10 times more extensive...well...I think 50-100$ is nothing for every reasonable guys !
...how much do you spend for a game ?  50$?....so...what\'s the problem if I spend 50-100$(for example) to play 10-100 games 10 time more extensive ?...tell me.......
let\'s wait and see what Sony has to offer us...don\'t be so dull-minded....

  •  ...if 2 or 3 add-ons failed doesn\'t mean all the add-ons will necessarily fail...
  •  ...The HDD is not a 32X or a 64DD...
  •  ...Sony is not Sega(take it in the right manner...it\'s not a provocation...Sega failed with two great products(Saturn and Dreamcast)
  •  ...I think future PS2 models will have a Built-in HDD

The N64 expansion pack was an add-on? I don\'t think it is. It\'s more of a accessory like the Rumble Pack and it did quite well if I\'m not mistaken.

I checked NPD but I don\'t feel like paying for the info. So I guess I don\'t have facts to back it up but I am almost positive that is the case. Is that worth anything? Nope. :)

Its not a matter of 2 or 3 add-ons being a failure. ALL add-ons fail. The general public is just not likely to buy add-ons for their consoles. Which means developers are not likely to develop with these add-ons in mind.

But it is STILL an add-on. See above.

What does that have to do with add-ons?

To do so would be a slap in the face to all the people that waited in line overnight just to buy a PS2 and all the people who drove around for hours trying to find one. Do you really think that Sony would disrespect almost ALL of their loyal gaming customers by re-releasing the PS2 with a HDD which would allow companies to design better games and at a lower price no less? I highly doubt it.

it\'s only your opinion...it\'s only your thought...nothing more...nothing less.....I trust Sony and I don\'t care about your opinion...Sony is the King of Marketing...and you are only a gamer....no offense.....

The HDD can\'t realy be described as JUST another ADD-ON, the purpose behind it will offer Playstation 2 owners the ability to nt only store Information but obtain or transfer new App.s and Add-on\'s via the internet adaptor.

now sorry to point out a Gigantic flaw with the SEGA and Nintendo addons......

They where talked about and only released on a limited basis, the PS2 HDD and Internet Adaptor will be a World Wide Launch with some rather tasty games.

Plus the partnerships that where shown at E3 , shows the public the commitment that SONY has to deliver this.

the 32X and 64DD had very few developers to back them.

Why i remember reading an atricle at the time that said that the 64DD, would alow a game like Zelda to have continual game play.

And what is meant by that is,if you go away form the game, the game carries on, Creaters heal themselfs, NPC might move town, Corpes will decay, entire dungones might even change as the enemy creates better defences etc etc etc......

and what happend ?

NOTHING

THE PS2 will have it\'s own versions of these possible killer apps , plus having Final Fantasy 11 and a possible online version of Gran Turismo will HELP TO SHIFT UNIT\'s

i mean you only have to look at the responce the online clan got, to seethat there is DEMAND out there for this.

51 Tribal Dragons can\'t Wrong ;)

oh and P.S (sorry to start a new post but this IS important)

here\'s what Mr Metal Gear Solid said about this matter....

Quote

CVG: How do you see online features? Will there be any online features in Metal Gear Solid 2, and if not, how will you build them into future games?

Hideo Kojima: We’re actually thinking of the hard drive, making it [MGS2] hard drive compatible. We don’t know if we can do it, because it’s really a matter of timing. We really don’t know if we can do it within the time-frame. Like in the previous game there was a camera where you could take pictures; with a hard drive you could take thousands. Things like that. There’s plenty of fancy stuff you can do with the hard drive, but we’re not sure if we can do it. But we have ideas.

CVG: Specifically about online though…

Hideo Kojima: That will probably come after the hard drive things. We can do hard drive stuff then we’ll start thinking about online stuff.

By the looks of things, the next Project that he could work on could be an ONLINE game perhaps ?

Thank you mate.

i am just trying to calm this situation down by showing everyone , that the HDD and Internat addond is not just another ADD-on that will fail.

SONY and all there partners have big plans for this and we are all lucky enough to own a PS2.

Now all we have to do in the mean time is sit back and wait, oh and maybe try and make things go quicker by playing a "little" ;) Gran Turismo 3 A spec and MGS2 to pass the time ;)
