Most other Christians believe that God is the one and only true God, while Mormons believe he was just a great guy on some other planet and Earth is his new play thing. They believe that there are a lot of Gods floatin\' around the universe. That\'s what I have gathered in this thread. . . by all means. . . correct me if I\'m wrong.

Well Earth isn\'t his only "play thing."  He has innumerable planets which are a lot like this one, and they all have people on them just like us.  And yes, there are gods out there who were once probably just like you.

I disagree with Juslight\'s statement slightly though.  We do not believe the exact same things that the other Christian churches believe in because the other Christian church\'s Bibles are (to us) translated incorrectly.  For example, other Christian churches (not all of them, but some of them), teach that us humans are greater than angels.  I don\'t believe this.  I think we have the potential to be greater than Angels, and we have the potential to be angels, but right now we are not greater than angels.  Juslight is almost completely right that we believe in everything that you do, and then some, but there are a few things that other Chirstian churches believe in that we don\'t.

Reading about this Joe Smith guy, I can make a few assumptions. He sounds to me like a nerd that no one would talk to. His idea\'s seem to be crap but people believed them for some weird reason. He said that Jesus came again to the Aztecs. How could he come and go again? The second coming is it. The next time he comes is the end of the world. And what is this crap I\'m hearing that this is God\'s play place from another planet? Sounds pretty messed up to me. I also read that the mormons believe that God has sex where and whenever with how many women he wants. No wonder so many followers. The sex. I also read that you believe that when you die, you get your own planet. So according to mormons, there are people living on Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto? That sounds too far fetched.

I\'ve never heard of that from any belief anywhere.  Where did you find that heaping load of crap?

On one of those Christian preaching shows early in the morning.  He gave like a half hour seminar about why we humans are superior to angels, and even took scriptures out of the Bible to prove it (I can\'t remember the scriptures, but at the time I was saying, "you are taking that out of context you fool!" ;))  I knew it was BS, and you obviously do too, but there are religions out there who are being taught things that you and I think is BS.

Yes, for some weird reason 11 million people believe this crazy guy.  And for some reason our church is growing faster than any other church out there because of what this crazy guy who nobody liked wrote.  *grOan*  And just a correction, this guy was no nerd.  He was a normal person who had a fourth grade education, yet he somehow managed to "write" a 500 page book in 75 days that never contradicts itself and has withstood thousands of people\'s attacks on it.  It also gives accurate details about different places and things in the world, places that Joseph himself had never seen.  As technology progresses and more things about this world are discovered, more and more things point to the Book of Mormon being true instead of false like most people would think.

He said that Jesus came again to the Aztecs. How could he come and go again? The second coming is it.

The people on the Americas needed to witness that Jesus Christ had been crucified, and then resurrected.  If you want to know about it, read 3 Nephi, chapter 11 in the Book of Mormon.

It\'s just that, crap.   Troglodyte used words to represent something, and then you took those words and modified them a little more.  Now they are meaningless.  Just forget about it.

Wow, if you read it, it must be true!  Mormons are Do0M3D!

Open your mind a little bit.  The 9 planets orbiting around the Sun are not the only planets in the universe.  What you are asking about is what we call the Plan of Salvation.  Here is a breef summery.

1. Premortal life.
2. Earth - we come down here to get our bodies, to get baptised, to get married to a wife, and to live worthily of returning back to God.
3.  We go to the spirit world (which iirc, is right here on this planet, just dead [I want to pic a wink emoticon here, but I\'m already over the pic limit][I want to put an agry emoticon here, but, well, you know]).  And on the spirit world, there are two places, or spiritual states, you can go, prison or paradise.  Don\'t let the words fool you, the only difference is that the paradise is people who know of the true gospel, and the prison is the people who don\'t know yet about the true gospel.  The people in paradise go around teaching the people in prison about the gospel, and they have a choice to accept it or not.
4.  We are judged for our actions on this planet.
5.  We go to one of the 3 kingdoms according to how well we did on this planet.
  • The worst is the Telestial Kingdom.  All sinners go here.
  • The middle one is the terestial Kingdom.  All people who have lived a worthy life but have not accepted the true church go here.
  • The highest and best one is the Celestial Kingdom.  There are 3 degrees of glory in the Celestial Kingdom.

The three degrees of the Celestial Kingdom are as follows:
  • The lowest one is where people go to become Angels, or messengers of God.  This is where the people go who never got married, but they were Baptised in the true church and have lived a worthy life.
  • The middle one is still not known to us.  Most likely we will not have to worry about what this one is.
  • The Highest Kingdom is Exaltation.  If you do everything you need to on the Earth (Baptism in the true church, eternal marriage in the temple), than you will go here.  Here, and only here, is where you can progress.  You and your spouse can work hard and study and eventually become Gods.  Then you can have seed without number like God says to Abraham in the bible.

Here is a pic of what I just said above.  It\'s the only pic I could find on the internet, so sorry about it being so freaking colorful. (I have never seen a picture of the Plan of Salvation that is this colorful, ugh.)

You may think that us Mormons are crazy for believing things like that, and that\'s fine, we\'re used to being called crazy. :)  But I want to point out that recent reports from scientists revealed that the Universe is actually growing...hmmm, I wonder why. ;)

EDIT: To clarify on that last sentence, that is just a theory of mine and is not revelation of any kind.  Oh, and I also added a cool little "Plan of Salvation" picture.  Enjoy. :)

Im starting to like religion now..
To hell with science..
Where are you Thor, Odin, Balder, Vidar ect?

When I die I will go to Valhalla like the brave warrior I am.. I will walk through the 540 doors to the castle.

Then Ragnarök will come and the ultimate battle will happen where good and evil fight.. Everyone will die.
Everything will start over and Balder will be the new master god.

Religion RAAWKS!

*and a few years later scientists will come up with the ultimate answer and fastson will see that he has wasted his whole life on religion* ;)

You\'re not crazy, just full of crap. . . there. . .  I said it.

The Universe has always been expanding. . . duh. . . Big Bang theory.  The other part of that theory is that the universe will hit a "reachable end" and start to contract back. . .  all the way back.

The odds of life as we know it on another planet is some ridiculous number, like .0000000273% chance.  I posted the actual number in this threads "older brother."

This thread was a lot better when we were talking about pet dinosaurs living with humans.

Do Mormons believe that Dinosaurs and humans lived together?  If so, were the dinosaurs allowed to have more than one partner?

One theory that I have is what I said above, that the universe is growing because more and more planets are being made and the population of "people" is getting bigger and bigger.  It\'s just a theory that I have, and is not revelation from my church (I should have been more clear on that the last comment, the one that you quoted, was just a theory of mine).  I do not know how much our God has possession of though.  Does he have full control of the whole universe as we know it?  Does each God get their own universe to build?  If so, then my theory would be false because God is not building planets right now (based on knowledge I have of God\'s planets, the age of those planets, and the significance of this one).

But if God only has one galaxy, or one giant group of galaxies, ect, within this universe, then maybe the universe is growing because other gods are building their planets.

But instead of me sitting here defending my theories/beliefs, why don\'t you tell us what you think?  Where do you think we go after we die?  Where were we before we came here?  What is the purpose of life, and what do we have to do to fulfill that purpose?

Some do, some don\'t.  That is up for debate because our church doesn\'t say one way or the other.  There are a lot of theories about if we lived with the Dinosaurs at one time or not (two of which I posted earlier around page 10 I think), but they are just personal beliefs.  But that really is not important for us to know.  It does not effect our salvation in any way, so pondering over it would be a waste of time.

Oh, and funny joke. :D

Honestly, Mormonism is the only religion that I have studied in-depth so far that I think is the most selfish, self-centered religion out there.  I\'m sick and tiered of their "Holier-than thou" attitude, their selfish belief that they can be God, and the freakin\' belief that if you don\'t get married you get shafted, and that women are screwed because there aren\'t enough men.  I can\'t possibly believe that there is no true Hell, and that Heaven has "levels."  Honestly I think that some major mis-interpretation of the Bible has taken place.

I\'m sure none of this will affect you because of the "Mormon thick skull brainwashing."  And wehatever you say probably won\'t change my hardening towards your religion.

If I had a choice between Science and Mormonism, I\'d choose science.

If I had a choice between most other religions and science, I\'d choose the other religion.

I\'m sorry, I\'ve tried since the first big religion thread to see some good out of Mormonism, I\'ve talked to Mormons, looked through the Book of Mormon, put up with y\'alls bantering.  But my open mind has been hardened by the utter crap I\'ve seen.

I\'m also sorry for bringing this out in this manner, but honestly I can\'t think of a way to post it nicer at this time.  I\'ll probably regret doing this later, but I have to move on.

It is my belief that if you accept the sacrifices of Christ, or that you follow the ten commandments to the "T," that you will be accepted into the kingdom of God.

I guess we\'ll have to wait for our bodies to release our souls.  I\'ll see you in Heaven, when we can finally prove who is right, and who was misled by the misunderstandings caused by our puny little brains.

Unless of course you believe in the whole arc thing and that two of everything was on it.  Two brontosaurus, a couple of t-rexes, a few crocodiles and some elephants and you\'ve got a party.

I don\'t get why people find it whacked to believe in Santa Claus, but in the same sentence could easily explain the arc, the parting of the seas, the making of the first chick from a rib, the idea that dinosaurs lived with humans, etc........

Our parents confirm that Santa isn\'t real, they can\'t do that with God.

My whole guess about the arc is that the dinosaurs died out before the arc was built.
