How can your parents confirm there is no Santa?  There are plenty of books out there that says he does exist and that he will come back every year.

Ever read Night Before Christmas?

It\'s just that we don\'t have ministers out there trying to take your money to preach the word of Santa.

Maybe I should start that church too.  I could have my church/sports bar and my Santa\'s Dominion.

Santa Clause did exist. But not in the way commercialism has him depicted.

Nicholas was the Bishop of Myra, ancient city in today\'s Turkey. This was back when Rome was still in power. He was best known for helping an old man who had no dowry for his daughters. The father was going have one of his daughters sold to prostitution coz they were so poor. Nicholas heard about this and snuck into his home one night and let some gold coins in a sock(which apparently belonged to the old man)  that were hung by their fireplace. The man found the coins, and by tradition, had enough dowry for his daughters for marriage.

Legend has it that the the practice of "secret giving" started with this.

Too bad the Romans killed old Saint Nick on a crucifix.

when science proves religion to be wrong, then I will feel pity for those whos lives have been wasted, and they feel the deep sense of loss from knowing they have been living a lie. Or alternatively, the religious dude will just slightly amend their theories, make up some new way around science and make excuses for why they are still right.

attitude just seems to hack me off. Is their a single peice of proof to show mormonism is more true than any other religion. Hardcore proof other than some gut thought he could get some kicks by adapting Christiantity. Mormonism cannot be a branch of Christianity if it believes in more than one god, it breaks down the very core of the religion.

Coming to my final point, what proof is their for any religion. No jury could ascertain that something happened without evidence. Yet this is exactly what religion does. It is without proof. There is by the day more and more proof of it\'s non-existance (which will of course be ignored or denied by religious folk) yet never any proof of a divinity.

Not to say anything that you probably haven’t already heard but, Christianity is based on faith . The essence of believing it without having to see it.

Do you mean how we know without a shadow of a doubt that this church is true, and that all the other churches in the world have lost a lot of things from the day when Christ started his church on the earth 2000 years ago?  I don\'t think that makes us holier than anyone, so I don\'t know what you\'re talking about.  Yes, we believe that we have a greater understanding of the "big picture" than all other religions out there, but Mormons can be just as big of sinners as anyone else in the world even with our knowledge.

Quote
their selfish belief that they can be God

When you have children, don\'t you want them to have everything that you have?  That is how our father is with us.  He loves us and wants us to grow up and be as successful as he is.

Quote
and the freakin\' belief that if you don\'t get married you get shafted, and that women are screwed because there aren\'t enough men.

I think you missed something here.  First of all, both the women and the men have to be married in order to go to the highest degree in the celestial kingdom.  The men don\'t automatically get to go to heaven.  And second of all, since when is living with God for eternity being "shafted?"  I thought that\'s what you believe is the #1 goal.  If you don\'t get married, and you still go to the celestial kingdom, you will become an angel.

Quote
I can\'t possibly believe that there is no true Hell, and that Heaven has "levels."

I also believe that there is a true hell.  Living out of the presence of our God for eternity, and never being able to progress is Hell.  And there is also the "Outer Darkness," a place that only a few people go who have seen Christ or God yet still denied their existence.  If that\'s not Hell I don\'t know what is.

Quote
Honestly I think that some major mis-interpretation of the Bible has taken place.

Yep, which is why you are having such a hard time believing our beliefs.  You have studied and believed the Bible for quite a while (I\'m not sure how long you\'ve been religious, but you are obviously very knowledgeable about religion), so of course it will be hard to accept that those bibles have been translated by man who wanted to create their own church, and in turn, altered some of the things to their liking.

Quote
I\'m sure none of this will affect you because of the "Mormon thick skull brainwashing."  And wehatever you say probably won\'t change my hardening towards your religion.

You assume way too much.  You are assuming that I grew up in the church a "Molly Mormon" following all the commandments and believing what my parents and teachers told me.  I don\'t want to get into detail here, but I do want to say that that isn\'t the case.  I have found out on my own that this church is completely true after years of being lost (I hate using the word "lost" because it sounds so lame, but I can\'t think of any other way of saying it).  It is the only true church on this earth -- something that I have found out through personal revelation.

Quote
I\'m sorry, I\'ve tried since the first big religion thread to see some good out of Mormonism, I\'ve talked to Mormons, looked through the Book of Mormon, put up with y\'alls bantering.  But my open mind has been hardened by the utter crap I\'ve seen.

You have tried so hard to understand us Mormons, yet you still haven\'t done the one thing that will confirm to you that this church is true.  Why waste your time trying to understand us when you are completely ignoring one of the most important things.  You won\'t believe any of our religion\'s beliefs until you get a confirmation that the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith are true.  And the only way to know that is by reading the Book of Mormon, then asking God if it is true with "a sincere heart, with real intent, [and] having faith in Christ."

Quote
It is my belief that if you accept the sacrifices of Christ, or that you follow the ten commandments to the "T," that you will be accepted into the kingdom of God.

So all we have to do is believe that Christ died for our sins, and keep 10 commandments that were made a few thousand years ago, and we will be saved?  What if God wanted you to do something else?  What if he brought new laws and commandments for us to follow along with the old ones?  Would you just ignore that and stick with the old commandments made for people who were living a few thousand years ago, or would you accept the new laws and follow them too?  Here is a scripture that goes along with that: (I don\'t know why, but I think these scriptures are pretty humorous)
Quote

2 Nephi, 29: 3 And because my words shall hiss forth—many of the Gentiles shall say: A Bible! A Bible! We have got a Bible, and there cannot be any more Bible.

6 Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. Have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the Jews?

10 Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose that it contains all my words; neither need ye suppose that I have not caused more to be written.

BTW, I don\'t understand, do you believe in a religion or do you just believe in the Bible and that there is no true religion on this earth?

I guess we\'ll have to wait for our bodies to release our souls.  I\'ll see you in Heaven, when we can finally prove who is right, and who was misled by the misunderstandings caused by our puny little brains.

You don\'t have to wait for anything.  You can find out right now.

OK....  This thread is starting to get stupid.

Let\'s just all agree that none of us can proove anything.

We are all just arguing about who\'s "Fairytale" is correct.

NOBODY HERE KNOWS ANYTHING BEYOND THIS REALITY AND THAT\'S A FACT

SNAP OUT OF IT GUYS

Let\'s all agree that we are all a part of the same reality, and nothing that we believe in is going to change that reality.

Let\'s start our own religion right here, right now.
Our religion just respects the fact that there is a solid reality going on all around us.
We can all pay our respects to the reality without naming it or trying to put a face on it.
We are all a part of the reality and therefore belong to the same religion!
This way we love who or whatever is out there and we honor it\'s existance together as a UNIT LIVING IN THE SAME REALITY!!!

The reality can also be the Macro & Micro physics that run the Universe for those people who want to respect science as their reality.

LET\'S DO THIS NOW AND HERE IN THE FORUMS OUR RELIGION WILL GROW!!!!
THERE ARE NO ORDINARY MOMENTS...

Open your mind a little bit. The 9 planets orbiting around the Sun are not the only planets in the universe. What you are asking about is what we call the Plan of Salvation. Here is a breef summery.

Whoops. You misunderstood me. I was being wise with you. I know and always knew that there are planets everywhere. I was just saying that there are people living on the 8 other planets in our star system.

Fu@k !

The bible is evil, the people that wrote it were fu@ked up on drugs. Religion is a divider, and it causes war. Just belive in the all powerful american Dollar, and all will be fine

Oh yeah, noah once dated a T-Rex, they had sex, and that is how we have chickens.

Santa is real, along with the easter bunny.

I think the bible should have its own section in the bookstore, under brainWashing.

Ah yes, that\'s what we really should be arguing about - casual sarcasm on the internet :)

But yeah, this thread was only cool when Videoholic was goona make a Sports Religion, that would have owned.
