Something I pondered...
« Reply #510 on: March 13, 2002, 09:16:30 PM »
Ok, I\'m finally starting to understand why GmanJoe brought up Quetzacoatl.  I did some research on the internet and found that some Mormon\'s believe that Quetzacoatl was what the people in ancient-America used to represent Christ when he came to them.  This is all news to me. :)  Instead of GmanJoe arguing with the Mormons who believe that, he brings it up here and expects us to believe the same.  Unfortunately for GmanJoe, this is not docterine in our church.  Just because some people believe it does not mean our church does.

And now that I think about it, it doesn\'t seem that far fetched for the people in South America to have a representation of Christ in the form of "Quetzacoatl."  I am starting to understand why some Mormon\'s see this as a connection between our church and the Aztecs.  It could be that through the few hundreds of years after Christ came, stories of Christ were passed on through the people and eventually "Quetzacoatl" was their final representation of him from the stories that they heard.

I would just like to say that I blame the Mormons for this insanely long thread.

And satan lives next door to me. His name is Bill, Bill Billson.

He\'s an ok guy I guess. Keeps his lawn mowed and what not.

Yeah but the second coming of Christ is the end of the world. Says in the bible. I think we\'re still here. How can you believe that there will be a "second coming" when he came a second time. The second coming of Christ is the end of the world. I still think this guy Joe Smith is a nut. He to me just wants attention.

Sorry for the double post. Altered, you proved this a while ago. You make yourself sound retarded by attempting to defend a BS religion. Talk about listening with an open mind. You don\'t even read our posts with an open mind so why the hell should we? I think the antimormons will laugh their asses off reading YOUR posts. Most of them make no sense. I laugh my ass off reading your posts because they are so retarded. I find more truth in Christianity. There is more evidence than mormonism.

The second coming of Christ is not the end of the world.  The wicked will be destroyed, and the righteous will continue living.  I don\'t want to say much more about it than that because you think I\'m full of BS anyways.  If you really want to know what the LDS church believes of the second coming and beyond, just ask nicely and promise not to bash our beliefs, then I or Altered will tell you. :)  I have a question though.  What do the other Christian churches believe will happen at the second coming of Christ?  Will the world end like Titan has said, or will people keep on living?

Quote
I think we\'re still here.  How can you believe that there will be a "second coming" when he came a second time.

The second coming is said to happen 2000 years after Christ\'s first coming (add a few years due to our calender not being perfect).  That alone should be enough to tell you that Christ going to the Americas, and Christ and God appearing to Joseph Smith was not the second coming.

The second coming is referring to when Christ will come down and live on the earth again (at least to our church it is.  I\'m not sure about all the other Christian churches out there.)

When Christ went to the Americas after his resurrection, I would classify that as his first coming still.  It was only a few days separating his life on the Eastern continent and him appearing in the Americas.  And he didn\'t really stay there for too long; just long enough to set up his church.

And when Christ and God appeared to Joseph Smith in the 1820s, Christ did not come down to everyone in the world and walk around like a normal person.  He only appeared to Joseph Smith to tell him some extremely important things, then he left again.

I don\'t understand why you are making such a big deal about this though.  Would it matter if we called it the "3rd coming" or the "4th coming" or even the "10000th coming"?  Of course not.  Those are just names to represent an event.  It makes it easier to talk about it with other people if we have a common name for it though.

Quote
I still think this guy Joe Smith is a nut. He to me just wants attention.

If you have read about Joseph Smith\'s life, you would know that he hated all the attention he got.  He hated being, well, hated by the church leaders of so many other churches.  He hated being attacked by mobs and hated running in fear for his life.  He was just 14 years old when God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him.

Now put your bias aside for a second and picture this hypothetical situation:  You are only 14 years old when you are confronted with an extremely hard to make choice -- which church out of all of the churches that exist are true?  Now pretend that to find out, you follow  the advice found in James 1:5, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God..." and you then go out into a forest and pray to God asking which church is true.  Then while you are praying, God and Christ appear to you and tell you that none of the churches are true, and that you will be the one to bring the true church back onto this earth.  Just imagine how you would feel going back to your family and saying none of the churches, not even theirs, are true.  To go against so many churches and so many people, especially at such a young age, is an extremely daunting task.

People throw temper tantrums to get attention.  People show off to get attention.  But come on now, do you really think that people start religions, write huge books, and go against nearly everyone around them to the point of eventually being thrown in jail then murdered just to get attention?

I don\'t understand.  Why exactly is this a BS religion?  Is it because it is different from yours?

And why does Altered defending his religion against false accusations from GmanJoe make him sound retarded?  If I started spreading BS rumors about your religion, wouldn\'t you try to straighten things out, or would you instead let everyone here belief the false things said by me?

What ever happened to faith?!  The word "faith" is used in the Bible probably thousands of times.  If you only believe in a certain religion because it has the most evidence for it, then you are completely ignoring one of the most important things needed for a religion to work.

Some non-Christian cult-rescue organizations have laballed Mormonism as a cult. And since you\'re obviously brainwashed, whatever truths I tell you about your religion, you call them lies. Obviously, you\'re brainwashed and can\'t see the truth. Come on....you can\'t become gods like your Mormon religion says. That\'s what Lucifer wanted to be. And DO ask your Elders if they believe that Jesus was married....three times. Please. Seek the truth. Don\'t put EVERYTHING on faith.

David Koresh (sp?) had his people have faith in him. So did Jim Jones and Marshall Applewhite....look where they ended up. And since it\'s been approximately 2002 years since Jesus\' time, sounds like you guys are about to have your End Of Earth Day Big Jamboree! :D

i am through with this thread. obviously everything I have told you is not getting through as you keep on pressing the same anti-mormon buttons every anti-mormon before you has.

You have read various anti-mormon sites to learn about our church, now try reading sites by members who (easily) refute anti-mormon sites.

it was good while it lasted, this topic sure has given a new name to the word ignorance.

Tell me about it!

I mean, if some believe in Superman and some in Superman2. Who’s gonna get saved by him?

Btw, I like comics, but I don’t hold my comic books as thruths or stuff like that though. No matter how much I would like to be "saved".

bjorn, bjorn, bjorn, it just isn\'t as simple as that. This topic left the discussion of merely a God or a Savior and ran away into mormon bashing/Mormons countering.

It was once a great topic spoiled by quick jabs of senselessness. It was fun while it lasted

yea I noticed that it went to mormon bashing/countering. That\'s what I meant with my post. Cause as I see it, you are fighting over two imaginary things. And that doesn\'t make any sence.
Just like the fights in India.

I like this quotation.

". . .new name to the word ignorance. . . Eric Jacob."

Dude, you said it!

On topic:

All other Christians believe that Christ is not going to live with us, but come and call the living believers to heaven.  One interpretation can be found in a decent movie called "Left Behind."  Where we don\'t really "see" Jesus, but all the Christians just suddenly dissapear.

Those who don\'t believe in Christ will be left behind to live on Earth for another 1000 years or something like that, then Satan will rise from Hell and dwell on Earth for a while, then there will be a great battle, and good will win over evil yet again, and by then the sun will explode or something. . . it\'s everyone\'s guess anyways.

Iron, you said that Christ\'s second coming would be 2000 years after his first coming. His second coming according to your religion was to the Aztecs. That was before 2000 years. Interesting huh? Christ was supposed to come in about the year 2000 but came before that (whenever the Aztechs lived but it was before the year 2000) And it is stated in the Catholic bible that Christ will come right before the apocolipse. That is the SECOND COMING. THE END OF THE WORLD IS THE SECOND COMING. Read the catholic bible. That is proof to me that your religion is BS.

Altered, I thought you said you were done with this thread? You\'re still posting here.

good way of calling me back, I knew some idiot would have to do it.

The Catholic religion is completely BS, don\'t get ME started. Of course, I have actual facts to back me up instead of anti-catholic sites designed to warp my opinions even further.

I love how you bash my religion, the church that has contradicted itself least, or not at all, all the while praising that Catholic Bible.

hahaha, good one :)
