only major player it didnt have was EA

capcom gave the DC more support that any other console to date

sega wanted to try anything to get DC\'s into people\'s homes and rely on software sales to make up the revenue

same thing the........xbox.....is.....doing.....

Konami, Namco, Capcom, EA, Square, Acclaim...minimal support.

Namco gave one game.  Capcom gave one Resident Evil and some ports.

Sega is a niche...70% of high profiles games were provided by Sega.  Too many people sitting on the fence because of bad past experiences.

That was exactly my point, as I thought I made clear in the sentence following that one.

But I now see your point, it will be a very competitive year in the gaming industry, and like you said, it will probably be the deciding factor of the Xbox\'s life.  (I personally think the Xbox will do just fine)

namco and acclaim had all kind of DC games

how many fighting games did capcom bring to the DC?  ask soulgrind, he\'ll list them all

the DC had RE 2, 3 and codename veronica for yer information

so yer saying lack of hardware sales killed the DC?  or lack of software?

here\'s the DC game list

WOWZERS!

High profile games are a must and DC didn\'t get enough of them...

Fighting games are not a big draw...

Codeveronica was a big game...one game won\'t cut it.  Continued support is a must.

Namco brought over Soul Calibur...Awesome.  And followed up/ended with Mr. Driller and Pacman.  Somewhat disappointing don\'t you think...

Lack of 3rd party software and support...Sega was clearly the dominating contributor.  PS2 has a nice draw from all directions...as PS did.

I\'m sorry, I wasnt going to take part in this thread, but I just had to after reading this post.  By the way, this isnt a flame on Clowd, so please don\'t take it personally.

Personally, I don\'t really care much for the xbox right now.  Whenever they release good games, and whenever I get the dire urge to go buy one, I will invest in one, and I\'ll probably love it.

HOWEVER, I just wanted to point out here that if you do not know what SHENMUE and PHANTASY STAR is, then you really need to do some homework before you start posting things like "they sound like PC ports."  Look into it.

I\'m a die-hard Sony fan (I have to admit it) but before that, I\'m a die hard gamer if anything.  I personally never liked the Dreamcast, but I loved many of the games that Sega had on that system, so I invested in the system and had fun with it.

  • Tell me someone didn\'t just refer to all the Sega games coming out as PC ports?!??! Shenmue 2 a PC port? Damnit, for your information it is a DC port! Notice the \'D\' , it is not a \'P\'!
  • The DC was the greatest in the last two generations. Then again, I say this because Sega provided excellent titles and my favorite 3rd party, Capcom also supported the system to the very end, just like they did with the Saturn (err..Final Fight Revenge!).
  • There is no way this new price drop for MS can be looked upon positive from a business perspective. Now MS  is losing even more money with each console sold , then you take in account that Sony went and lowered their price to try (and most likely) kill any advantages of MS\'s $100 dollar price drop.

Also take in account on how it looks to the consumers. Here is this new console, that has not been out even a year and the price continues to drop and it isn\'t even near the holiday season (when price drops are usually expected). It doesn\'t look good. Now, I\'m not saying people won\'t buy it, because I\'m sure there is quite a few people who will jump on the recent price drop, but for a lot of people it looks like a last ditch effort to gain some market share and the sad part is, it is a last ditch effort.

As for Nintendo, I don\'t think it is going to effect them one way or another. They launched at $200 (a wise choice) and they can stay there for alittle while longer if they want. Or if they want to be real smart, stay at the price until the big first party titles come out (Mario, Zelda, Metriod and etc) and then lower it by fifty dollars. Gurantee\'d success!

  • Xbox games are coming out way to slow, as are NGC games. The problem is, even though this is slow season, if MS keeps dropping the price on the Xbox, they have to have some way to make up their money and that would be to rely on software sales. Problem is, they have no software at this point. Any great big titles are almost all Sega and no firm release date on those at this point, not to mention most those games are niche games, such as Shenmue2. You said yourself Ginko, Sega is a niche\' and so are their games. Those games may be great (and most likely will) but if Sega has always been a niche\', I think you can look to see their games remain the same , espically on a console with such a small userbase such as the Xbox.

So where exactly is MS going to make their money?

  • E3 is next week and it is going to be MS\'s last straw, if it isn\'t already too late. We can expect to see the year\'s lineup for Sony. We can also expect to see first impressions of Nintendo\'s very strong first and second party lineup, along with release dates. MS is going to have to do something drastic to gain any attenion throughout E3 and I just don\'t see what they are going to be able to do. Of course, there is a couple of games that will draw attenion at the Xbox\'s booth (Panzer Dragoon!) but I don\'t think that is enough to gain commercial interest. Unless MS is hiding something for E3, it looks to be a repeat of last year\'s E3. Very dissapointing.
  • Finally, among all this negative stuff, I\'d like to say one thing... WoooohoOOooo! All consoles are $200 dollars. This is a great thing indeed for consumers.

Damnit! I knew I was forgetting something in my above post. Thanks for reminding me, MM. ;)

Oh and one more thing. If NIntendo really wants to sell some units, they don\'t need to drop the price at all. Instead, just wait until Mario comes out, offer it as a pack in for the same price ($200). Techinically, the console would be $150 and then another $50 for the game. It would keep the price at $200 and in the minds of the consumers they would get a "free" pack-in game of one of gaming\'s most beloved characters.

Sad thing about dc is just nobody gave it respect. Had great games on it and consumer act as if it didn\'t exist. Well when dc droped the price ppl started noticing it then, but sadly it was far too late:(  I wish sega would have lanched dc at 149.99 or something because they ended up selling it for 50.

I think a lower dc launch price could have change things for sega and I could be looking forward to DC2.

But xbox is about to drop some great games and I can\'t wait.

Besides Square, xbox has all the top developers making games for the system.

wtf ever happened to pack in games?

the sega master system did it best

it had two games, BURNED INTO THE CONSOLE itself

just turn it on with no game in the slot, and they would load up

what was the last console to come with a packin game?  the SNES and genesis?  i thought the 3DO came with one, but i cant remember.
