USA gives money to Israel so that they in turn buy American tanks, planes, war equipment, parts, etc...

Most of the money comes back into the american economy anyway.

What makes me laugh is how much time CNN spends on the Israeli astronaut, and they dont\' spend any time on the American\'s and indian woman. Oh well, i guess Israel Owns the USA.

It really makes me sad when this happens to people who are doing what I consider to be the most important thing we human beings can do: exploring and advancing our understanding of the universe.  It\'s disgusting how poorly funded NASA has been in the last 20 years.  Paying for a space program isn\'t essential to our survival, but we need to do it because it\'s what we\'re surviving for.  It\'s what gives our species meaning and justifies our existence.  What good is just surviving if you\'re not also doing something greater, and trying to comprehend all the mysteries we don\'t yet understand.

This also saddens me because it was the first Columbia mission, and the first space shuttle launch ever, that the band Rush used in their song "Countdown" back in 1982.  They used audio from that launch in the song, and it\'s so thrilling it still give me shivers whenever I hear that.  I always used to think, at least it was Challenger that blew up, not Columbia.  Columbia is the special one.  I guess nothing is special anymore.

and we dont see all of it back. washing money has little to do with it. Its the fact that we take care of everyone but us, then when shit goes wrong, they constantly point fingers everywhere but where they should be.

luckee, each shuttle was designed to go through 100 launches then be retired. Columbia only went on like 28-38 or something. It didn\'t even reach a third of its life. Columbia still had a lot of its life left.

I think that the left wing burned up then created a chain reaction. A piece got shot off and hit the left wing. Engineers said that there was damage but it was minor. Big mistake. They should have parked Columbia at ISS and stayed there. I do feel bad for the Russian and American still at ISS. But they can use the escape pod or whatever it is to get back down.

I understand where you are coming from, and i agree, what has Israel done for me lately? nothing. Why should america feed/and arm them, while their shuttle fleet ages into dust.

Whole planet has gone mad-hopping israel crazy, kiss ass, kiss ass, bow down before your Israeli masters :D

I know, but this was also 30 years ago or something when this was thought. My point being is that we have so much better tech. now. A much better understand of structural engineering and such that we should have at least ONE up to the minute shuttle.

Either way, an accident can happen, but they can be decreased in chance as well.

I just hate when hero\'s die senselessly and Im looking for reasons to blame. I dunno *shrugs* :(

I was thinking the same thing. Although in this case REALLY smart and deserving people die. I mean, do you know how smart you have to be to be one of those guys? And I think 4 of them were on their first voyage to space.

Not a chance. The whole project will be put on hold I would think until this incident has been fully investigated.
