any marches is yer town yesterday?
« on: March 21, 2003, 05:40:05 AM »
a few thousand people (most of them universtity students that already suffer from identity crisis) marched thru downtown pittsburgh yesterday afternoon.

apparantly this was a coordinated effort that was planned for the day after the start of the war in numerous cities, from what ive been reading.

funny thing is, they werent satisfied with thier lame slogans and signs, and disrupting traffic, they decided to encite a riot which left hundreds arrested.

i loved it, cops were beating down angry teenagers like hotcakes.  they the local news crew interviewed crying teens from jail so they could whine about thier "freedoms" and thier "parents lawyers" that will get them out

Real anti-war protesters don\'t incite violence, the people that do are the same kind of people that turn up at any demo from anti war to anti bypass, they\'re not fighting for a cause they just fight and there will always be a contingent of them.

If there was a pro war demo there\'d still be fights, the same kind of people would tag on to the mass of decent people marching for a real purpose.

Mankind really will be the death of this planet, someone said to me the other day that he wished we all still lived in caves and killed our own food etc.  We\'d only fight to the death for the biggest rock instead.

Yeah a bunch of people from all of the schools around here walked out of class around 3pm and marched around all the campuses chanting. It was a peaceful demonstration.

I was mostly concerned with getting to my physics recitation on time so I wasn\'t able to hear exactly what they were chanting.

A friend of mine said that people not old enough to vote didn\'t have the right to demonstrate by walking out of lessons. I say it should be the choice of the individual, I know that at the age of 15-16 I wasn\'t stupid, one of the most frustrating things about being young was the fact that people didn\'t even try and take anything I said seriously.

I thinks it\'s great that they\'re being allowed to protest, everyone has to live on this planet.

but do they even comprehend what they are protesting?

they are just seeking a way to vent thier frustrations and realizations that NOTHING they do or say will change anything

I\'m sure such sights as a burned out tank, mauled human or blown up building still look like they should through 16 year old eyes.

Although I have become a little bitter and twisted since I got older.

they look the same

even kids are so desensitized to violence.  they could see a bomb go off, and body parts throw in every direction, and you know what they would probably say?

^^^EXACTLY!!

No matter how badly they shut down the San Fran business district or snarl traffic, the war will still go on. I\'m all for letting the government know when you disagree with something; but they are SO misguided. They need to chose their battles and this is a losing one. They have absolutely NO leverage and 90% of the protesters barely know why they are there.

When I was watching the clips of the San Fran protest with the mother and father yelling "Shame! Shame! Shame!" over and over with their little son on his shoulders all I could do was laugh because it was such a bizarre thing and I really didn\'t know how else to react.

Just because something isn\'t going to change why should people stop saying what they think, it\'s their right. That\'s when you know someone really wants something, when all is lost but they carry on regardless.

People have protested against many of these so-called losing battles only to succeed in the end, if there is a ray of hope then it\'s never over and I commend their dedication.

Take away peoples right to protest and what you have is a dictatorship, the very thing you\'re so opposed to.

It is good to voice any disagreements that you have with the government. However, these people are taking it to extremes and, in some cases, making fools of themselves. While I do not agree with the war, now that it has begun I will support the troops(some of whom are friends and most of whom are my age and younger).

IMO, A lot of these people will be the same ones spitting on veterans when they get back.

San Fran takes the cake for moronic protesting. These geniuses decided to have a vomit fest. The vomit on government grounds to prove their unhappiness with the current administration.

There is word that MIT students in their rally were carrying the Iraqi flag. That should disgust just about anybody.

protesting in the the streets vs. protesting in a organized hall or arena

which is more barbaric and laughable?

and in the end, more likely to create results?

Burning a Stars and Stripes actually inside America, only stoopid people would think that was a good idea.

As for the protests being \'barbaric\', Ha Ha Ha.

Turn on the Telly, what\'s happening over there is barbaric, bit of a strong word for people voicing an opinion. Anyway, what\'s the point of protesting in a building, anyone who disagrees will stay out, therefore making it pointless.

Edit: forget the last bit I typed to Ace, I mis-read it, the buggers here at work gave me a desk with lots of sunshine on my screen!

Not a word, it was the actual Iraqi flag they were carrying around. Is that not offensive?
